Is sex always about the sex act? Not really. It is about power and control.

Maybe have more women MPs -- less likely to have this sort of scandal 😂

Well, she is merely sticking to her marriage vows … but unfortunately to the wrong man. He violated and trampled his marriage vows long time liao. Maybe for sake of kids?

    • RE: Maris Stella High School

You are spot on regarding the high standards (due to students) and unhelpful teachers. Of course, it is also an all-boys sch, so in my humble opinion, bullying, if it does happen, gets a bit worse.

The school physical facilities leave much to be desired. Could it be linked to the fact that funds raised for the sch did not end up enhancing the sch facilities (if you know what I am referring to)? I don’t know. You can visit the premises and decide on your own.
But that’s a small matter. To me, the greatest asset in the school is the teaching staff.
If you and your son can tolerate some of these problems, then the school is an option to consider.

    • RE: Singapore Chinese Girls' Primary

I didn’t really have to tell much to my daughter. She was also quite disgusted with student’s A behaviour, as evident by the fact that she told me "she’s always like that". We don’t have any maids/domestic helper at home, so she certainly doesn’t understand this sort of overly-pampered and irresponsible behaviour.

    • RE: Singapore Chinese Girls' Primary

My daughter is in Pri 1 this yr. Despite my hesitation, we eventually sent her there. I still have concern on some of the elitist mentality of some of the girls there. Let me relate the following

A week ago, my daughter misplaced her water bottle. Every day she will go to the general office lost and found and try to see if someone had returned it. While there, she saw her classmate’s purse with money there (let’s call this student A). Out of goodwill, she excitedly went to inform A about it. A’s response was nonchalant, and then casually told another classmate, B, to collect for her. Then a few days ago, my daughter managed to find her water bottle at the lost and found. While there, she noticed that A’s purse was still there. She then went to inform A. Guess what was A’s response? She blamed it on B. A openly shouted at B and said, "I told you to collect for me, how come you didn’t go?". My daughter was shocked … but she did not say anything. She came home to relate to me this incident and said that A is like that and treats everyone around her like a maid.

I conclude that student A must, firstly, come from quite well-to-do family. Losing her purse is small matter to her I guess. She probably has half a dozen of cute purses at her disposal. Secondly, her irresponsible attitude is alarming. Not bothering to claim her own property is one thing; but instructing others to do it and then blaming them when they fail to fulfill their task is the maid mentality. Good grief. This is the kind of students I fear will promote all these wrong values and mentality. I can’t help but think that only students who come from such elitist households behave in such an appalling manner.

I know some of you will say that student A is the exception rather than the norm. But to be honest, my son spent 6 years in a neighbourhood school and I have never remotely heard such stories from him. My daughter has been in SCGS for less than a year and I am already hearing such horror stories.

    • RE: All About Life Without Maids

Well, of course we need to get creative in making sure some aspects of housework involves less human labour. 2 things work for me: one is a dryer, which i use when i need to dry uniforms urgently; the other is the roomba, which hubby will set to work on its own when he leaves for work. Then we come home to a clean floor, and viola, there is no maid involved!

The only manual labour is still the ironing …

    • RE: All About Life Without Maids

I only had a maid once because at that time my mum was ill and I just had a son. Once her 3 yrs was up, it was sayonara.

For a while it was stressful, sometimes quarrels erupt between hubby and I over housework and supervising the kids.
It took time for us to adjust … and it has been 10 years that we have been maidless in S’pore.
Ironically, relationship with hubby has improved as we began to sort out our responsibilities, children adapted to life in child care / student care, and most of all, they learn that housework is a shared task. At times we have to rush from work to pick up the kids, but overall we learn to make some sacrifices.
But at least I feel that I don’t have to worry over another human being, someone whom I have no control over. Housework is the biggest downer, but hubby and just devote 2-3 hours over the weekend to get it over and done with. I mean at least we get to sweat it out and just sacrifice some hours of mindless shopping anyway, haha. I’ve seen on the Oprah Winfrey show that in a lot of Scandinavian households, that’s how they do it as depending on in-laws or hiring maids is out of question.

    • RE: Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School

Hi Pokemon and parents who have children in KCPSS,

I am intending to transfer my son to KCPSS next year in Sec 2 (he is currently in Sec 1 in another secondary school). Reason for transfer is two-fold - firstly, we are relocating to Bishan next year and secondly, he is not fitting well into his current Sec Sch, which is an all-boys sch. One of the reasons is that his classmates are all computer mad, and the sch has too many group projects but are not equipping them with project work skills. Worse still, the boys are not academically-focussed, disruptive in class and unhelpful. Some teachers are incompetent and strike me largely as uncaring. There were occasions that he could not find a group to join and instead of helping him, he was penalised for it. These are only sec 1 students, and obviously they don't care about the need to take time to learn skills like teamwork, communication, cooperation, etc.

Thus I want to put him in a co-ed school, which in my opinion is often less extreme as the presence of both sexes usually helps to moderate the situation. I want to know if the teachers there are caring and whether the students there are generally ok. I am not looking for an elitist school; just one that my son can fit in and be able to learn and grow. Sec sch years are formative and instrumental for him to develop the right values and character, and I just want to make sure that he is in a school that is supportive of this.

Would appreciate it if someone can give me some feedback. Thanks!!

      pokemon:
my elder boy is in KCPS, tis year sec 1. I hv no complaint abt sch curriculum cos compare to other neighbrhd sec sch, KCPS hv extra enrichmt cls within their normal sch curriculum, eg, drama, modern dancing, computer lessn. Its compulsory and fee is nominal thru edusave. So far gd character and leadership building sch. For academic, they dun hv much homework bt hv freq modular test, parents cn login to e web to chkout hows child academic perf. So far, no 'gangster' or ah beng type of ppl in my boy's class, he sm happy there, since so close to home2.

My DS is in Sec 1.

I had a shock when I saw the results of his Art. He had a F9.
At the parent-teacher mtg, the teacher said he did not hand up his work. Then I said, why wasn’t this alerted to the parent the entire term?? You mean wait for the student to fail and see his results then let us know? Her reply was that she was too busy, and she showed me that on her record book alot of students also had this problem. I was not surprised. After all, art is not part of the common test, and students were not told explicitly that their art exercises were included as part of the CA grades.

After that, I went to check on my DS art holiday homework. To my horror, he had 3 assignments! And they were not easy. Not only must show end product, must also produce development pieces, etc… I think it is asking too much from the students. Frankly, I have no idea why the expectations for this subject is so high … the type of assignments given are almost like those from NAFA or SOTA projects. Not much of a school holiday, considering that practically every subject has holiday homework (but 3 assignments for Art is just plain ridiculous)

Would like to hear from other parents out there on this …
