GTGT:

@sunsetgloww, why worry about what others say? And seriously, doesn't mean you go to a good school, guaranteed will score well in PSLE.

All the best :D
Let me share with you:

My brother-in-law's relatives - 4 of them (from 2 different families) went to a very popular GEP school in the west. They are from well-to-do families. They attended lessons in popular and expensive tuition centres. Only 1 went to ACS, the others score between 210 and 230 and ended in neighbour secondary schools.

My friend's daughter attended a neighbourhood school in Jurong. She did not attend any tuition and she scored 268 in PSLE. She is now studying in Nanyang Girls. My friend and her husband are not gifted nor well-to-do but they give a lot of support to their child.

Ultimately, family supports count most.
Very true ultimately it about what's best for the child not the bragging rights of the parents.

All parents thinking of joining the religion or clan as a means to gain entry to their schools should reflect on the kind of values and examples they want to set for their kids - that deceit is ok

:spank:

As compared to joining the religion or clan because of belief. πŸ™

As compared to wanting their kids to attend Catholic schools because they ARE Catholics, for example. (but the reality is most can't coz most of the places still reserved for 'alumni' even with Ah Loong's recent breadcrumb for 2b/2c.)
To true, but too late already happens.

I know people go church, join clans just to expand business networks and improve chances for kids to get good school among other things. You can't stop it

....... Soooo kiasuuuu

In the ND rally thread, read this link:

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/nd-rally-primary-1/781514.html

Alamak, CNA seems to classify Phase 2B and Phase 2C as phases with no prior connections to the school. So it looks like Phase 2B and 2C must share the 40 seats...

Aim of govt is only to prevent the ending of P1 reg at Phase 2A. It was not meant to help more pple get into the school. 20 seats at Phase 2B and 2C each will not help to relieve the competition at the popular schools.
No cannot 2b are volunteers.
If you volunteer at school then you have a connection so can't get one of the 40 seats.

i feel that remove all PRs from Phase 1-2C should be what the govt be doing...

but feel that these parents want to have both of the world ... since many of them studied here during their younger times, they would already be given the choice to convert to singaporeans but they didn't. So is it fair to SCs?

if making capped at phase 2A...means it will benefit the rich as they are usually the ones can shift. Renting of place w/o staying ...this is also a big loophole. This should be scrapped. someone mention...only hbd rentals can be considered is a good suggestion to deter those trying to get thru the loophole...

just voicing...how i feel... Don't hum tum me hor...

Agree that ensuring all SC get in before PR is really the best way!

Cos even those SC who tried and can't get into first choice schools like MGS during phase 2C won't be so absolutely depressed when it comes to phase 2CS if other schools like Marymount Convent still has space! The situation now is that the PR have taken many of the places at phase 2C at Marymount Convent, leaving SC to battle it out for the remaining at phase 2CS..

In that way, yes, the PR will be further discriminated (my apologies) but all SC are still treated in as best a way possible!

Yes makes perfect sense, then after all the foreigners and SC have been moved then we can start targeting in order

The poor,
1st generation Singaporeans,
2nd generation Singaporeans and so on

Cna mentioned there will be a cap in phrases for primary 1 registration. More details on this Sunday's ndr. Gonna be an interesting rally.

Don't get your hopes up high.

May squeeze 2A2and2B to free up more places for 2C.
That way doesn't impact the wealthier fee paying alumni. They can still buy their kids a place at the front of the queue by paying their subs.

The only ones impacted will be ex-students who dont pay alumni fees.
at the same time encourages more ex-students to pay to become alumni and fill school coffers.

........ everyone wins.

The government states that "every school is a good school"

I have no issues with that statement, but if that is the case all MPs should be required to state which school their primary children are registered at. Some may view this as an invasion of privacy, but MPs are paid from the public coffers and from taxes paid by us.

If MPs children do go to non-branded schools then their is validity in the govt statement. If not then clearly the populace are being misled and even the MPs don’t believe in their own governmental rhetoric.

Came out on the papers today that there are changes on education systems... psle is one of them. PM will speak more abt it in the NDR.

So tell me what is the big deal about PLSE?

I was educated in the UK under the grammar school system. We had to sit a set of exams known as the 12+, which essentially streamed kids and determined what school you went to.

How is this so different from PLSE?

• RE: 3 girls who shaved head bald for charity told to wear wigs

jtoh:
Yes, the girls were wrong not to don wigs as promised. For that they should be punished. But if the P was so concerned about the school's image, then she should just have told the girls no shaved heads. No ifs, no buts, no wigs. Raise awareness of the cause in a different way. That way, the school's decorum would have been preserved, the girls' hair intact, and awareness raised. And if the girls were so concerned that wearing a wig would be going against the objective of HfH, they should not have agreed to it. The power of 20-20 hindsight. Or experience. πŸ˜„

And if the principal had said no, no doubt it would have been all over the newspapers \" St MSS Principal doesn't support Cancer Charity Drive\"

The situation all parties look silly.
The principal - for some of her comments,
The girls - for going back on a promise
The parents - for over reacting to the situation

I read somewhere that the latest statistics shows that approx ~50% of all marriages consist of SC + non-SC union..

Wah that is going to be quite a sizable advantages if implemented..

It's common la, many married PRs only one converted to SC. Children get priority in schools. Own HDB flat, own properties in home country. Best of both world

If you read the recent article, a lot of the SC/PR couples are Singaporeans marrying foreigners. Would you deprive their children of a place?

I am a PR married to a Singaporean so my children are SC. I will not take up citizenship until Singapore is willing to allow dual citizenship but I am committed to living here and bringing my children up here.
Ditto
Am the same, PR with SC spouse and SC children, been living here 18yrs and still waiting for Gov't to allow dual citizenship.

Majority of people I know do what they can within their means to cope with the system. Nobody complains first class or second class, and mind you, they are not in 2A just like I am not. (My primary school has closed down and I confirmed with MOE that I do not have a primary school which I can call myself an alumni of).

If admission is purely distance based, there will be 2 classes as well - the rich who can buy expensive property within 1km and the less rich who cannot afford.

Hey, we are in the same shoes, mine closed down too

Agreed with your 2nd paragraph. Rich and poor further divided :faint:
Having a deep pocket will become the new birth right to good school instead

This is only true for some schools in the bukit timah stretch that has no or minimal HDB within 1km: SCGS, ACS, MGS, RGPS, NYPS, Pei Hwa, Henry Park.

The rest of the popular schools are in HDB estates. Rulang, Southview, St Hildas, Ai Tong, Catholic, St Nicholas, Nan Hua, Mee Toh, Nan chiau, chong fu and many others are all in the midst of HDB estates. And the prices of these property will forever be a lot lower than places like orchard or shenton way that doesn't have a single decent school.

So we should continue to have a policy that only serves 7 out of the almost 200 schools in Singapore??

Disclaimer: I have no vested interest as I am done with the registration and my DD is very happy in her present school that only gets filled up in Phase 2CS.
Even if the policy was changed during my girl's registration time, I will STILL not put her in Rulang (opp my place) as I don't believe in giving kids excessive stress (but that's just me).

Maybe I do have a vested interest. Then I will not have to deal with the long jams coming from PIE to Rulang and back from Rulang to PIE every morning. :skeptical:
Actually, HPPS has a few HDB estates nearby with rental accommodation and a number of low income families. Many of whom will be unable to send their kids to HPPS so will have to figure out out to get them to another school.

To call HPPS a neighbourhood school is a misnomer. It doesn't serve the neighbourhood. Most kids on the estate end up at QPS, NTPS and need transportation because of kids who attend HPPS and live miles away, like Bishan / Woodlands (of which I know a number).
