Based on what was posted online, H1 MT can be used in the overall Uni application scoring.

But it seems likely the H1 MT score is used only when you apply for MT related courses and will allow you to get bonus points if you have an A for MT. There are other subjects that allow you to get bonus points but only if you are keen to pursue a course in the MT related field.
There is a Uni admission requirement to sub-pass H1 MT though.

RE: Doing Well In JC
The local Unis A level grades requirement are your PCME grades + PW + GP.
Though PW and GP are only H1 subjects, they are used in the Uni application scoring system.
Though it is not wise to emphasis this but just for your info, H1 MT grade are not considered. A pass will be sufficient for Uni admission criteria.
The A level curriculum are much more heavier in content than O level. As a tutor, I find it quite a feat to cover all the topics in a span in 1.5 years. Some JC 1 students may be too focus on their PW and neglected their other subjects. They thought that they will be able to cover the neglected topics in JC 2.
If it is possible to teach the JC curriculum in a few weeks, why do we need 2 years for JC? Most JCs could only complete the syllabus only several weeks before the A levels examination. It is not possible to re-teach the whole JC 1 syllabus in 2 months.
My advice to you will be to manage your time wisely. Make sure you are not lagging behind your tutorials and get ready for Project Work. It is where the nightmare begins. -
RE: A Levels Uni Score Calculation?
For 3 H2 + H1 students, the 4 subjects + GP + PW will be taken into account.

H1 MT grade is not used in the computation. But bonus points will be given to applicants to NUS MT related courses.

To supplement the above info, for H2 subj, it is not -2.5 points for E,S and Ungraded. It is E=10, S=5 and U=0. H1 subj U = 0.
A student who fails GP will be given a incomplete A level certificate. This does not mean that the student can't qualify for Uni courses. The selection will be based on the total A level points obtained as what was stated in the above post. The student just need to sit for the Qualifying English Test (QET) before the 1st Sem.
If a top student scores 5 As but is Ungraded for GP, his points will be 20+20+20+ 0+10+10 = 80. If a student has straight Bs for three H2 and straight As for H1, her points will be 17.5+17.5+17.5+10+10+10=82.5. Though the latter grades may not be impressive, she has more A level points than the 5 As top student.
Conclusion: Though H2 subj are important, must do well in H1 subjects too, esp GP. -

RE: Subject Combination in JC
There are 2 types of H3 Math courses. One is an in-house MOE syllabus and the other is offered by NUS / NTU. It is advisable to take the H3 Ma from NUS/NTU as there is a quota set for each JC and it is relatively easier than the in-house MOE H3 math course.
The offering of H3 Ma to a student depends on the grades of all subjects. Besides getting "A" for H2 Ma, the student must show the ability to handle and excel in the rest of the subjects => at least a "C".
In order for you to achieve your goals, you will need to work hard from the first day of school. The continual assessments such as class tests and block tests can contribute up to 30% to your overall grade. The end-of-year exam aka Promos results have a bigger weightage but it will not be the sole assessment tool. From my experience, JC1 students tend not to do as well in their Promos compared to their daily work because they neglected their studies in the 2nd Sem as they are busy preparing their Project Work (PW) which will start soon.
