      Hi parents,
Does anyone know how are the classes allocated? Is it all mixed? Are there DSA classes? Are there separate GEP classes and how many? Are MS boys mixed with the GEP or theres no more segregation?

Sorry for the questions 😅 cos I do not know anyone whose boy is in RI. Thank u!
Every year a slightly different. P or level head will introduce it.
In my kid’s y1, a-g is ms, h-l is GEP+ high psle score ms. Academic DSA students were not purposely allocated in same class.

Hi parents, would like some advice on foreign language, are there any added value to take a FL? And is the workload too heavy for the kids? Thank you

      Hi

My boy taking German , on which day is the German class ? How do go there from RI?

For RI boys, third language is always on Tuesday afternoon. German is at Bishan moelc, most boys walk there. At the orientation camp, seniors will show them around.

It’s only for kids who really love the language and culture. Y3 they have chance for overseas immersion trip, Y5 also. After graduation, they may get the scholarship to study in the third language country.

      Hihi

I am made to understand that the Booklist will be given tomorrow. But what I understand that many of the books (eg textbooks) listed in the booklist are not even touched by the teachers who prefer to use their own notes. So my question is:
      1) Will the Principal in his speech tomorrow tell us what to buy and what not to?
      2) Or if not - how do we know as we only intend to buy those books essentially needed?
      Thanks
The books are for reference, even not used in class, the students can read at home.
If you read this forum, you will know that mother tongue and literature books are used in class.

The RSP scholarship is offered at RI for those who take up Malay Special Program (MSP) as a 3rd language. https://beta.moe.gov.sg/fees-assistance-awards-scholarships/awards-scholarships/programme-scholarships/

The school will inform on the application process at the appropriate time.

Thank you. Which means we will only know when school starts?[/quote]All the programmes details will be released on registration day.

DS wanted to take HCL for the sole reason of getting it done and over with in 4 years. And he is also worried about being ostracised for being the only few who do not take HCL. (Which is why I’m trying to find out how small is this “minority” who takes CL.)

I have concerns about him taking HCL because firstly, he has never taken HCL before, and it took me 6 long years to help him overcome his fear and hatred for Chinese. From 50s at P1 to 80s at P6, the improvements did not come easy. I would hate to see him plunge into borderline pass/fail, and hate Chinese all over again.

And most of all, I want him to enjoy his teenage years in RI. No stress and no remedial classes if possible. Yes, having to take Chinese for an extra year is painful, but at least he will be learning at a more comfortable pace. No rush, the ultimate finishing line is the same.
The number of students taking CL in Y1-2 is around 15-20 per level.

You said your son’s psle score is way below cop. I guess your son DSAed by sports? If so, he needs to have training at least 3 times per week. It’s really tough. So you should focus on keeping him in IP, not only hcl.

Thank you very much for the information. So it means the boys have to get minimum 60 marks for HMT in order to be promoted? 😓

For those taking normal Chinese, are the boys segregated into the same class, or do they attend separate lessons during Chinese period only?

Passing grade is 50. They are not necessary to be in the same class, just a pull out class in Chinese period.

Promotion criteria is passing English and minimum 2.0 of gpa. So even hmt fails, the student still can be promoted. But teacher will advise the boy to mt.
