      Thanks PlatypusAsia 🙂

The package from ACS didn't include the booklist actually. We got a copy during the briefing at NUS High. I've emailed the form teacher to ask and waiting for her reply. Ya, usually we would buy the books before school starts as well. My son is new to ACSP so we are feeling a little lost somewhat. Grateful for the support and advice of parents here! 😄

lee_yl, thanks so much for your sharing. Yes, I recall ticking off HCL in the form, just not sure if it requires confirmation. As for the text books, I’m emailing the form teacher for advice if we should buy before school starts or after the briefing.

      PlatypusAsia:
      Hey,

You can pose this question to the school when they meet you at GEP4 orientation which will happen in week 1 of 2016 term 1.
Thanks PlatypusAsia for your reply! 🙂
Does that mean we don't have to buy the books yet till after the orientation? There's a parents-teachers meeting-briefing on the first day of school (ACSP) so i guess we should get more info then? I'm also wondering about the other text books. I read in the forum that only Chinese text books are required so the other subject texts for Math/Science are not compulsory since teachers will be giving out material in loose sheets? The text would be more for reference if I'm not wrong? Thanks!

      Hi,

For non-SAP schools, is there an assessment or recommendation by teacher for geppers to do HCL? If we are able to choose to do HCL, should we go ahead to buy the HCL text and activity books or we wait for the teacher/school for further instructions? TIA!

    • RE: All About GEP

I think parents and child should reach a consensus after discussing together. For me, I will try and accede to my son’s preference as long as I am able to work around factors like transport or distance and he is willing to sacrifice the time and sleep for travelling. Would like him to consider all factors carefully and be committed to his decision/choice. Ultimately, I think it’s important he is committed to and happy with his choice since he will be spending the next 3 years there.

    • RE: St Andrew's Junior

      Hi Mommies

We received a letter from the school informing us about Meet-The-Parents session (for P1) on 29 May 2013 and to pick a few choices for the slots we want. The letter says parents are encouraged to attend the session with their children. Does it mean it’s a non-school day on 29 May? The letter doesn’t say so but it seems there’s no lesson since the first slot of the session starts at 8am and the last at 3.50pm! I tried calling the school and left a message for the teacher but no reply yet. TIA!

      Hi YellowBelt,

Thanks for the info, this is such a big relief. May I know whether the Boarding house requires any balloting due to overwhelming requests?
I don't think there is any balloting. More like first-come-first-served. So you should indicate your interest or register as soon as you can (after confirming a place in SAJS). There might still be some or few vacancies during the P1 registration day - they have a booth along with other uniform and shoes suppliers. It is rather popular and for P1 this year, there are no more vacancies and I know of a few parents who were thinking of enrolling but did not register early enough.

      Hi,

I am new, my boy will be starting P1 next year and am pretty worried about after school care. I just read from moe website that St Andrew's junior is one of the pri sch that have after school care. Anyone using the after school care?
      Hi sunnyjenny
My son goes to the St Andrew's Boarding House (Day Centre) after school. They have responsible and caring teachers there. My son's main teacher is quite strict but she manages to get the boys to follow the schedule. They have a good programme and my boy is enjoying the time there playing board games, comp games etc during the daily one hour play time. The teachers will also give them spelling (in advance to help prepare them) and check that they complete their daily homework - they won't correct or mark them though as parents are expected to also play a part in guiding their sons in their studies. 🙂 I'm thankful for the Boarding House as it is located within SAV, is convenient and safe (no need to travel to another after-school care centre). Hope this helps.
