    • RE: Edgefield Secondary School

      Hi Mike,

Yes we also thought that NCHS would be a better option for him. But since his t score is only 4 above last years COP, we were worried that he would miss out since it is quite close.

We live near Edgefield as well, coupled with the positive reviews, we were tempted by it....lol

      Hi all,

Thank you for everyones kind replies & inputs.

Yes, we feel that Edgefield is really not bad. We heard that the students are well disciplined and we quite like the fact that Taekwondo is a compulsory CCA. Can learn self defence & keep fit at the same time! 😉

in the end, we decided to put NCHS as 1st choice, and Edgefield as 2nd choice. To be honest, we would happy too if he get into Edgefield in the end. It was initially our 1st choice, but since our DS T score allowed us to try for NCHS, we decided to give it a shot as we hope the \"Chinese\" environment over there can help him appreciate MT A little better. 😉

Hi ek, all the best !!! 🙂

Given your child's score, NCHS is a better option. In fact, My younger daughter wanted to put Edgefield as one of her choices (6th) becos her sister is there. But I feel it is a waste as her score allows her to put other schools and we overruled her. I still like Edgefield as it is a good school and it is very close to where we stay.

      Good Luck !!

We have never visited the school premises before, but just hearsay that it is not bad.

sorry that I can’t share more with you on this school.

For yourself, have you already decided to send your child there?

    • RE: Nan Chiau High School

      Dear all,

Can anyone please share their thoughts on this school? Particularly pertaining to discipline, character moulding and commitment of the teachers?

We are in a dilemma on whether to send our DS to Nan Chiau High or Edgefield secondary. He has a t-score of 244. His form teacher said it would be a pity if he gave up the opportunity to go to Nan Chiau to challenge himself rather than stay in the comfort zone at Edgefield.

We are worried that he is unable to cope with the pressure of being one of the "poorer" students in Nan Chiau as compared to being a "better" student at Edgefield, thus affecting his overall confidence in himself.

We are also worried that although he scored an A for Mother Tongue (he did not take HMT for psle), he does not really like the subject & he would struggle/be left behind, since the school is a SAP school with around 6 out of 8 classes taking HMT.

The thing that attracts us to Nan Chiau is that we feel it may have a better environment to mould him into a person with good character. Having more pressure to perform academically may also push him to work harder, but we are worried it may have the opposite effect.

Sorry for the long post but we really hope to make an informed and correct decision, so we would appreciate any inputs and thoughts…thank you.

Also, we heard that Taekwondo is a compulsory CCA, is this true? And if yes, is it compulsory to take up a 2nd CCCA as well?

    • RE: All About Supplements for Children

      arielgetz:
I agree with schellen. Strictly vit c does not seem to build that much of an immunity. Have to top up with probiotics or other supplements.

      hi, i relatively new here.

My 6 & 2 yr old boys has been on a probiotic called \"BioGaia\" (bought from KKH pharmacy) for the last 6 months, seems to help build up their immunity as they seldom falls sick nowadays.

The BioGaia probiotic is actually a lemon flavoured chewable tablet, which my 2 boys enjoy as they think it is a sweet! haha

but i'm just wondering if i need to top it up with Vit C for better effect? if yes, which brand do you all recommend?

would really appreciate any comments....cheers 😉
