Thank you for clarifying! Guess we will stick to ACSJ when the time comes ….

What is the school name, printed on your spouse Report card ?

      ACSJ ?
      Not ACS primary, right ?
      So, go back to ACSJ.

Under the combined Phase 2A -

your son cannot jump ship to another school, ACS primary, when his father (your husb) did not even study there in the first case,

      Unless 4 possibilities arise ....

      1)

your husb was offered GEP last time many years ago, and at the end of his P3 (ACSJ), he got transferred out of ACSJ into P4 GEP (at ACS primary), then Yes, under this kind of rare situation, your son can choose to enrol in either ACSJ or in ACS primary, because then, your husb had studied in both ACS schools before. Otherwise, No.

      OR

      2)
your husb is a member of the school Advisory Board or Management Committee, in ACS primary school. Then, your son qualify for Phase 2A (ACS primary).

      OR

      3)
your husb is a staff member in ACS primary school.

      OR

      4)
your son has a sibling, who is a former student of ACS primary school before. Then, your son will qualify for Phase 2A (ACS primary), due to his sibling existence.

      Note the word, \"former\".
      Because
If your son's older sibling is \"currently\" a student inside ACS primary, then your son would have already joined under Phase 1 (ACS primary). No need to come to Phase 2.

There is a 5th condition tied to MOE kindergarten, under Phase 2A. But in the context of ACS schools, not applicable here.

If none of the above conditions mentioned are met, then
      under combined Phase 2A,
you can only enrol your son back to ACSJ, since
your husb was an ex student there before.

ACSJ is an absolutely amazing school with a great focus on discipline and moral values
      you will love it

    • RE: All About Measuring Home-School Distance

Would like to seek some guidance on this

MY son is in P1 this year and we have been at the current address(rented) since the beginning of last year. Unfortunately a major North south expressway construction has come up right next to our house since three months ago, and my family has been falling sick constantly (flu’s with runny noses, phlegm and coughing), have done multiple PCR’s and seen multiple doctors and all of them say it is due to allergic reaction to the dust particles (we have the diagnosis and receipts and everything). I have multiple air purifiers running as well as ACs with 3M filtrete in them, but it doesnt help much.

We happen to have an apartment which we have rented out to another party, for which their lease expires in July 2022. Is it possible to write into MOE to seek exemption for 5 months out of the 30 month stay requirement? meaning instead of staying till Dec 2022, we stay till July 2022. The current Covid situation has made it a nightmare for my kids as we are frequently called to fetch them back due to the flu symptoms (even though they have never had fever and we have done umpteen PCR tests which have all come back negative). The current class teacher for my son can attest to all these symptoms and we have been in touch with her throughout and she is very understanding.

Is there any possibility of this exemption? what if we seek exemption for 3 months instead of 5?

thanks in advance for your opinions

I don't think MOE will be so rigid in a case of genuine need.
For the original poster - you could call up MOE and ask if there is a prohibition on changing schools, but if it is really impossible to manage the transport, I think they won't be too rigid. On the other hand, it will be very hard on your son to change so frequently, so you might want to find a solution that doesn't require so many changes if you can.
yes, MOE will not be so rigid in such a genuine case, they will definitely try to accomodate and OP has a good chance

btw to the original poster, you are in a tough situation and i fully empathize with you, your child will see your struggle and hopefully he/she will be all the better and more resilient for it! jia you!

Being an alumnus, she probably knows how the culture is like (and lived through it, growing up).

I have friends who are alumni of NYPS, and ATS, who decided their alma mater was not a good fit for their sons. They chose to enrol to all-boys school, or homeschool.[/quote]
yes, it takes a special parent to do what they sincerely believe what is good for their child rather that what is generally considered as a \"successful outcome\" by society

Some parents have already decided to stay out of the game, for the sake of their own sanity, as well as their kids’.

One of them is a 35-year-old lawyer who, despite having secured a place for her daughter at Rosyth under Phase 2A1 in July, made the unconventional decision to enrol her child at Marymount Convent instead.

Ms Ang, who declined to give her full name, said that Rosyth, one of the most competitive schools to get in, was a “natural choice” as they live within 1km of it and she was an alumni.

Balloting took place even at Phase 2A1 at Rosyth School this year.

There was also the pressure from family and friends who gushed about how it is a good school and that she would be “foolish to give it up”.

But Ms Ang ultimately withdrew with her child’s interest in mind.

She described her child as a bright and perfectionist girl who had not reacted well to a highly academic environment in preschool. Marymount Convent would be a better fit for her, said Ms Ang.

“She is already very hard on herself. I want an environment where she is not going to focus on one benchmark to measure herself by,” said Ms Ang.

Housing in Punggol, Bidadari and Sengkang is like a conveyor belt, houses ready round the year. One shouldn't be penalised if the house is ready this or next year but the kid needs to get into P1 next year.

P/S: Ruling party losing Sengkang GRC not enough? You want them to lose Punggol or Bidadari GRC (or whatever name they are going to come up with for those two) as well? 😆

In fact i hope they bring in regulation over time that you must stay 12 months PRIOR to the primary school balloting for your address to be considered eligible

Not possible to have such a policy.

If as proposed, no one will be able to move into a BTO or TOP unit if applying for P1 within the year...
Imagine the chaos in Punggol, Bidadari, Tengah, etc.

can be done for new units, provided that the new unit is now ready 1 year earlier

Nice examples from Floppy. Thanks. Really a big game changer.

Can i clarify if the new rules mean that GRL can apply under Phase 2B to schools within 2 km of the GRC they are in or just within 2 km regardless of GRC?

      Thanks.
I am a GRL in Tanjong Pagar and i was previously considering applying for SCGS
but now i will apply for CHIJ kellock
this affects me as well, but I think it is a fairer system and am supportive of it (I am all for equity in society)
