As a child has mentioned, your child will be brief in detail by the teachers .. So not to worry now .. Try her best for ca1 and sa1 which are important for DSA and then after 1 st semester Chiong for prelim and psle .... 😄

Thanks vlim, I did get a bit worried as I'm trying hard to cut down her activities to only what is necessary. Her CCA commitment is very high. Now they ask her take another CCA, the AMEC. So it's good to know what's coming so can decide and plan better. Happy holidays!

And about Odyssey of Mind, what is it all about?

I think it is the Secondary School version of DI that the geppers do. DI is Destination Imagination. It is one of the Individualised Study Options (ISO) projects they can opt to do in P5. My dd did it and she had a lot of fun.

      achild,

Thanks so much for sharing info. No, i’m not kiasu or kiasi. In fact I am planning to bring dd for a shoestring travel to India during the June holiday before the PSLE. For my other kid, we did the same, go Disneyland and detox just before PSLE.

Can I check with you is AMEC worth joining? Dd has been invited but I’m hesitant as there’s also SYF competition next year. Plus with what you just decribed on the workloar, now I really think it’s not wise. For me, first priority is enough rest, all else is secondary, at least for now. There is only 1 year of childhood left.

You sound like a pretty balance student. You apPear to me to have good awareness of yourself and your environment. For this, I congratulate you. As for Mrs Tan, she’s my son’s current principal. We like her alot.

      a child,

Thanks for insight view of the raffles school. Base on my dd profile, there is only one school she is probably suited to go. After reading your post, I think she will enjoy that kind of environment. As for chasing grades, my dd has never been competitive and is always ready to celebrate jer friends success. She has many talents but not sure where her passion lies. Mrs Deborah Tan, the ex principal had adviced me RGS will be a good place for.

      Do you mean Cambridge?
Sorry, I was not clear. I meant Cambridge 'A' Level.

Also, for A level, if you fail one subject you redo all but IB you can retake the subject you are not happy with the grades again over 2 times I think. they have 2 exam time available a year.

Which is a better path ? A levels vs International Beaculerette ?

A levels has been around for the longest time, but IB is very new, at least in Spore. Are the prospects of the child for admission to University different for the 2, are there any constraints for IB ?

Also what are the differences in the curiculum and the character development ?

How do we choose between the 2 ?
In 2006 MOE tweaked the SingPore Cambridge o and a level to model after the IB. Program which has been around since the sixties. This was done because they realized that the IB is mor holistic. If you look at the way the a level grouping is, it is a copy of IB. According to a principal who was involved in developing the ip for the top schools, the IB was recommended instead of the Cambridge but due to political reason, the government chose IB.

IB is criteria based. You marks don't get tweaked to fit into the Bell curve.

      Thanks again for your tips!

Privacy doesn't really matter much to me actually for this kind of personal retreat. Will still go even have to sleep in a barrack-style room...

That Indonesia sounds better to me coz of its cooler weather (my body is a super 'heated' one like a radiator which then makes it a 'magnet' for mosquitoes and so minimal risk of mosquitoes attack if possible).
You may want to change your trip to OCT or later. June time could be warm for Bogor too, according to the old students. There are a lot of mozzies but surprisingly, not in the meditation hall (Thank God!) I had a couple in my room but I found a way to chase them out so I can sleep in peace.

      Just read your post!

Yes! I will go by your recommendation and that'll be my next personal activity after Nanjing (and I hope to go before June next year).

      Thanks for sharing. Greatly appreciated!
      Insider,

You're very much welcome. Just a few other tips for you. The Centre in Bogor has rooms for single, double, fours. Bathroom is common. I was lucky I was given single room. If privacy matters to you, you can try the one in Malaysia or Thailand (Kanchanaburi). I heard these centers facility are good, all rooms are single with bathroom ensuite.

      Cheers!
