WL for his preferred school and CO for his 2nd choice. So DS is in a dilemma. If WL is not converted, he will be posted to his 2nd choice school. So now dilemma whether to just put in the WL, and give up the CO. So that he can fall back on his T score for a 2nd chance to try preferred school... but what if PSLE something happened, he end up even 2nd choice also dun have. Hence the dilemma and mixed feelings.

If 1st choice school did not offer WL, then there is no dilemma,
and you will accept the CO from the 2nd choice school?

If no WL, it will be a bigger dilemma as DS will definitely not have a chance of preferred school unless he choose to give up the CO and rely on his T score which is a BIG unknown. Whatever the decision, I count my blessings. Anyway, end of discussion as I do not wish to invoke any wrong feelings.

Last lap and less than a month to PSLE... good luck to all P6s and jiayou to all parents. :rahrah: :rahrah: :rahrah: :rahrah:
Hi What The,

Sorry, the assurance might come a little late.. You DID NOT say that you were unhappy. You said you had 'mixed feelings' about your DS's CO/WL, which I, and I believe the vast majority here, interpreted as - happy yet worried and in a dilemma. Do not worry. Parents here know where you were coming from.

A friend's DD accepted a CO of her third choice but to her surprise (not our circle of friends'), her DD did well enough to get to her dream school but because she accepted the CO, she had no choice but to go to the school which gave her the CO. The child felt sad at first but has since accepted the situation and is happy at the new school. Actually, children are more adaptable and resilient than we think! :imcool:

• RE: Raffles' Girls Secondary VS SOTA

Hi Growing.Pains,

Pls allow me to kaypoh here. My girl is currently in RGS and she is enjoying every min of her school life. The programme is rigorous but the environment is certainly NOT unfriendly. The girls are very close to one another, including the seniors. The sisterhood spirit is very strong. They help each other with school work (at least the vast majority of them do coz I can't deny we get black sheep everywhere) and personal life. Please do not get me wrong, while I say RGS is good, I'm not saying SOTA is bad. It could be as good too! I'm just sharing my girl's experience at RGS. That's all. Hope this helps šŸ˜‰

mummyboo:
I broke the news to my DD. She looks like she was ok with it. Her classmates many got WL and 1 CO only. Even when the one who was 2% lower got in. Just wonder if she is putting up a strong front or she is seriously ok. I start to worry and guilty. I could have and should have chosen sports but decided to go on academics as I thought 6 years is too long a commitment. In both school, she kenna the question why didn't she go via sports. Wrong decision on my part and I persuaded her to share my sentiments.

Hi mummyboo,

Don't beat yourself up. You're not wrong. It's true that going via sports will 'lock her up' in that sport for 6 years. She may like the sport but what if she doesn't like the coach or cannot get along with others (doesn't necessarily her fault sometimes) in that sport? She'll be miserable for 6 years! I think whatever you did, you did it in the best of her interests. I'm sure with determination, she'll be able to go to her dream school via her PSLE T-score and best, with no strings attached! She's lucky to have you.. You're a great parent.

All the best to her PSLE!

JannettLee:
This may be the reason?

http://thewireless.co.nz/articles/the-p ... on-a-plate

And let me quote something somebody written in another forum:

\"I was told that people like Richard has \"GOOD\" GENEs!

They will get into \"GEP\" class first in Singapore, where teacher to student ratio in a class is 1:20 (vs typical ratio of 1:42 in other schools)...........

Then these GEP students, being the BEST of the BEST in Singapore, can DSA and direct entry into BEST IP School even before PSLE results are out, just because they are \"GEP students\"(!), and hence do not have to compete with other students taking PSLE....

The reasons given by some people is that what they study in GEP classes do not follow PSLE syllabus, so it is NOT FAIR for them to use their PSLE results to compete with other students following PSLE syllabuses strictly in class!
And furthermore, because these GEP students study so much more and emphasize on \"creativity\", they are \"wholly\" educated, unlike other normal class students who just \"study\"....

The best part of all, through these BEST IP schools which are directly linked to BEST JCs, these GEP students will directly get into these BEST JCs without even taking GCE 'O' levels (and again, do not have to compete with other students taking CE 'O' levels for entry into BEST JCs)!

Hei! What do you expect! What fair competition? How to fairly compete when these GEP students study so much more and emphasize on \"creativity\" and \"wholly\" education compared to other secondary school students? Can't compare right?

Anyway, the most important is that these GEP students has \"BEST\" GENEs in Singapore! They should NOT be subjected to undue stress and unfair competition with the normal students in primary schools and secondary schools!

And you know what? GEP students do not mean they are best in academic results! That is what I was told, since their marks in the GEP selection tests are unknown...... Somebody told me that his kid got into GEP class (of own merit), and 1 day asked the parent why the GEP class got quite a number of students that are so lousy, how they get in? Then later, the kid returned again to say that these students are the \"Who's who\" kids! Wow! They definitely have \"BEST\" GENES in Singapore!
\"

\"How do you know one is there based on a Primary 3 \"GEP\" selection test?

Like that Thomas Edison will go to 8-year Monolingual school in Singapore... and he will end up as a cleaner?????

The world will still be in DARKNESS as there will be No light bulb and No General Electric Corporation in this world!

And it is not like these GEP students never take PSLE exams.........
And they are so \"smart\" to introduce IP program where these students don't need to take GCE 'O' levels (so that they can claim that since they don't take GCE 'O' levels they can't be compared to other normal students who took GCE 'O' levels in order to gain entrance into those BEST JCs)............

Sounds very much like the \"White Horse\" system in the ARMY where the \"WH\" gets special treatment right???\"
Oh dear!

My DH and I are not 'Who Who' so how come my DD is in GEP? Must have been attending the wrong class for almost 3 years now. Siao liao..

Hi Firefly Mom

Sorry if I had come across as defensive. Like you said it is not up to anyone to judge a school's dsa process, I am pretty positive that the source that you or other forummers heard about this \"rumour\" have no intention of picking MG as their first choice. It is important to practise perspective taking. There should be a centralised computerised system to let schools know how many schools a child has applied, then schools like MG won't have to resort to this way to find things out.(if what is shared on this platform is true)

Of course every parent want the best for their child, but I do know of some parents who are more or less confirmed in their choice school, still applying a few other schools and their intention is just so they can say their dc got offers from schools A,B and C. Just remember when you get multiple offers, there are other girls who could have gotten the CO but are now being pushed to a WL or rejection list. Life is not fair, but we can make the world a better place by teaching a child integrity and honouring commitment. I have also seen parents scolding their child stupid by being honest to the teacher/coach about the school they really want to go to. What are we teaching our children? To succeed at all cost?

I am sorry if my tone sound defensive. But I think passing judgment such as saying the teacher/coach is \"unprofessional\" and \"make a complaint to the principal\" is a bit uncalled for. It is easy for us to be keyboard warriors but I think let us be fair to the schools and our children.

Gwen, I applaud your girl for her honesty. You have brought her up well.
Hi VRossi,

No worries šŸ†’

We're on the same page on this actually. I also do not think DC should apply for DSA to 3-4 schools as I do not believe that any child will have 3-4 'dream' schools. Why they applied to so many schools, I really do not know. I told my DD to apply to only her dream school. If she does not get the CO, just study hard for her PSLE šŸ˜“ šŸ˜“ šŸ˜“

And I'm sure the schools know how many schools each applicant has applied to. They were just asking to test the integrity of the applicants. Or at least the interviewers of the school which my DD applied to knew.

VRossi:
From MGS point of view, probably they are well aware their sports dsa route is for o level track and thus pale in comparison compared to NY and RGS, I think the coaches have probably have the experience of offering it to girls who are using MGS as a back up in case they do not get RGS or NY. They would rather not waste the dsa offer on someone who do not have genuine intentions of going to MGS. I think parents should also stop being selfish and apply many schools just to see how many offers they can get because other children who are genuinely keen on the school would have to fight for their chances with girls who are treating MGS as a back up. Please do not spread any malicious rumour about schools, the schools that you are complaining about may not be your first choice school, or you could already have a confirmed offer in a \"better school \" like RG or NY. There is really no need to bad mouth other schools on this platform.

Hi VRoss,

Cool down, please.

It is not uncommon for forumers here to use words like, 'I heard a rumour' or 'I heard from somewhere'. This is a platform to share info and not 'spread malicious rumour, complain, or bad mouth', I agree. If you think what is said here is not true, you just need to clarify with your own experience or your friends' experience like what Gwen just did. There is really no need to be so defensive and use strong words like the above. We are all parents who want the best for our DC, who are probably the same age and going through the same stress, and are like friends who have never seen one another's face.

Honestly, whether MGS did what was claimed or not, I think no one should judge. IF they did, they were just being practical in my opinion. If the child has applied to 3-4 schools and MGS is not the child's first or second choice, why waste their time and the child's time? It is not fair to MGS that the school puts in effort to go through the DSA process with the child and have it only as a back up? The places to go to more deserving and genuine applicants.

And if I had offended anyone else with what I posted based on what I heard from the horse's mouth, I sincerely apologise.
