Hi, may I ask what is the porfolio did you submit for the Humanities domain? What is the tested components during the selection written test? What are the questions asked during the group interview? Highly appreciated if you are able to shed some lights on this domain. Thanks!

In fact Lit has no definite answer? but must hv personal response, & quote your evidence closely fm the text. While I agree to a certain extent that Lit is marked very subjective as it is not so straight forward like Math & Science, students must read the text very very critically & understand what's the authors trying to convey their hidden messages fm the text. As long as the students sit down & read critically & fully immersed the text, he/she will be able to score pretty fast ,& well. Previously dd tends to go shortcut, only flip to certain pages & didnt read critically the whole text, her CT/BT/Promo the most score B. Leading to Prelim, I forced her to read the whole text fm beginning to end, she finally got a decent A in the Prelim. So I must say students opt for Lit as H2 subject must be sensitive to the choice of words used to convey, & most importantly must totally understand more deeper meaning of the whole context that the author wants to convey.
Totally what my girl realised too. It was \"supposed\" or not supposed to be the subj to have own views... Lol... Not so... So if you do not have the views of the majority, better not to take the subj unless there is no other better subj to take. Ie cannot do well in other subjs.
Or is it just in Sg that marking of lit still follows standard answers? Different shade of colours are not accepted? Often how one read a book depends on the experiences of the person. I recall my child read a book thinking that the protagonist is a white in her school with some black kids, but it turn out it was the other way, the protagonist is a black in the real (adult) world of majority whites. The only line saying that the girl has different skin pigmentation as the others. So if the marker is strict such kids will lose out,
Fortunately, she enjoys history and can do well in Geo, so she can choose. -

Yup, the J2 kids are free to travel after A's. Usually school will start email them a list of organizations which are open for them to sign up for internships, or government tea session talk, attachment etc. that usually hv enough time for them to explore even though planning for holiday.
Can any current JC2 parents advise, are JC2 kids free to travel after the A levels? Or does the school have programmes for the JC2s to attend after the exam and it's best for kids to stay available during the December holiday period? If yes, what are kind of programmes/attachments that HCI offer to the kids after the A levels? Thanks in advance! -

Hi zeemimi,
There is another scholarship that doesn't need cca/leadership positions.
NUS Merit Scholarship.
Just get RP90 and you are immediately offered the scholarship.
Do you mean as long as the candidate get RP90 in the A Level, he/she will auto receive NUS Merit Scholarship offered by NUS.? Still need to apply through the NUS portal or just need to accept offer of acceptance through email?
How about any precedent case being offered the scholarship without perfect RP 90, like perhaps RP86, 88, 89? -

Have fun during the 2 years JC life at HCI. While the level of difficulty in subjects get harder, study hard but play hard too & leave a good memory here. Orientation is the best memory they enjoy during the first year, next not forgetting CNY & Mid-Autumn celebration which is the blast of all. Last week they even have faculty dance competition. The school starts to get very happenings with no covid restrictions which are a good thing.
lol no idea my kid hasn't reached that stage but if reddit is anything to go by, the early admissions seems to be by stages and offers can be received from before A levels to after results are released?
Not sure about PSC though, whether you have to apply to be considered.
Any JC1 parents here? This year's orientation seems to be very very fun, with no more Covid restrictions. -

Yup! What I mean is students receiving emails fm local U to apply EA during the period of Nov which explicitly stated they are recommended by the school. Yes, those students who receive earlier before A levels results will still require to apply to the U for their final consideration again. If from what you said , it makes more sense maybe those that got 90 Rp should be for overseas U. Cannot be those scoring good results but not even recommended by school? Hmm...just curious if any parents have kids getting below 80 rp but recommended by school??
I don’t think scholarships and EA will land on anyone’s lap without applying for them? I think school gives these institutions its recommended list of students and then these o institutions invite these students for EA. Don’t ask me to what’s the criteria cos it’s a black box (how HCI reco) but there’s usually some pattern. And not everyone in Hci is invited to apply for EA.
The rumour on Reddit about some 90RP not invited for local uni EA? Could it be they are earmarked by Hci for overseas Ivy League college early applications?HCI does identify and train such students for such applications. -

Thanks, but I'm referring to offers without personal applications in the 1st place. Don't worry, my dd is taking charge of what she wants, and told me about ECG. But im referring to the Reddit & just curious if parents can share the experience of their kids who receive emails without even applying EA/scholarships personally. Becoz I am more curious about successful experience of being recommended by school without even applying in the first place. . I'm not referring to applying any ea/scholarship by themselves. But anyway, thanks for your input though :xedfingers:
Sharing personal experience from my son. He applied for the early admission himself. Based on Prelim results, he was offered by 1 University. I did not hear that he was recommended by HCI in anyway; he did not mention anything about it and I'm quite hands-off in this section. I did hear from him that it was difficult getting offers for EA by NUS/NTU; perhaps my son's result is not tops and not on school's radar.
Perhaps your child can approach the ECG dept to ask more ... they are at the age whereby they need to take charge of what they want.
