    • RE: Q&A - P5 Math

      Jamesbond:
      The ratio of the number of mangoes to the number of oranges in a fruit stall is 1:6. The number of oranges is 75% less than the number of apples. The total number of fruits in the stall is 434. How many apples are there?

      Pl help....
      Draw a model,
      So the ratio will be 1:6:24 since the total is 434, take 434 divided by (1+6+24), so 434 divided by 31=14

      So I think the answer is 14.

      Hi,

      This is a P5 maths question. Please help with the question below:-

      A container contains a number of chocolate and banana muffins in the ration 5:2. After removing 10 chocolate muffins and adding another 4 banana muffins, the ratio became 3:2. How many chocolate muffins were there in the container in the end?

      Thanks!

      Solution:
      Lets assume choclate muffin's are C and banana muffin are B.
      C:B = 5:2 => 5B = 2C
      (C-10):(B+4) = 3:2
      3(B+4) = 2(C-10)
      3B+12 = 2C-20
      3B+12 = 5B-20
      2B = 32
      B = 16 and C = 40

      Thank you for your kind explanation.

      Need help...

      There are 20 pages in Samuel's storybook. What is the total number of digits on all the page numbers?

      Answer is given as 31..
      Hi Shann2

      The answer is indeed 31.
      From pages 1-9, there is 9 digits.
      From pages 10-20, there is 22 digits. (The number 67 has 2 digits.)
      So 9+22=31.
