Is it just me or are the psle scores very low this year? A friend’s daughter who is good at her studies but not the exceptional type, I was expecting her to get 240+ but she got 231. Another friend’s son I expected a 260+ but he got 254. I wonder what happened to the kids.

I think that the psle scores this year has been affected by covid and online classes, and yes. Since attention spans are reduced during online classes, students wouldn’t have been able to absorb information as well as they could in face-to-face lessons. This would have resulted in not-as-high-as-expected psle scores for most of the students. That and the reduced time for lessons. We’ve been through a lot this year, so cut them some slack. Schools also have to lower their expectations as if they don’t, they will have only a few students taking secondary 1 next year.

Hi, I joined the school in 2014. I went through the afternoon session in P1 and P2. It is no longer there. It is such a pity because I only woke up at 8, did my last minute homework, left the house at 940 and then went to school. The school didn’t even have a lift until 2018. THe ISh came last year. However, the academics is very good. Our exam paper are harder than that of other schools. And if you are not one of the top kids, you are in some trouble. You see, since some children are slower to understand things, the teachers have to go through the easier things for a longer time. And then there is no time to cover the difficult things that come up in the exams. But for me, I enjoyed the challenge. Though you have to keep in mind, that to manage the difficulty level and do well in exams, you need to go for several tuitions. Pretty much every kid in challenge went to tuition(i was from there). Though challenge is not the top anymore since streaming stopped. I was the last batch. From 2021, the psle scoring is going away. I just want to remind you that more time for fun activities doesn’t mean it is good. Because the kids who are gullible and enjoy themselves to their heart’s content because their homework load is light suddenly repent for their mistakes when the practice papers get tough and the exams are difficult. I often used to compare my test papers with my friends from other schools and realised how hard mine were. My parents used to compare my marks with them and often used to say I was scoring badly. Parents, please note that if your kid scores lower than peers from other school, it’s NOT you CHILD’S FAULT. It is the DIFFICULTY OF THE EXAM PAPER. This helped me in the longer run, but the stress that came from it was immeasurable. This is my honest opinion.
