Received email last Monday. Went for interview in sch on Tues. Interview emails are released in batches, one week before scheduled interview date.

Think my child went on first day of interviews at his sch.
Thanks Ellyc

All the best to your child!

I think only -

All the awards only gets the kid an interview chance. ( which your kid already has sufficient)

Get the offer or not depends on the interview performance already.
Not sure for HCI but for RI, it is not only interview.

The written paper test conducted by RI is also very important. Test is for 1st round, Interview is 2nd round

At least that is the situation during my son's time. He is in Year 5 now.

Not all GEP students will be admitted into RI- DSA. During his year, about 6 from his class tried Science DSA. Only 1 was offered. 2 were on waiting list. The rest were rejected. One of the rejected was a IMSO silver medalist and a SPSO gold medalist.

Hi all,

I saw the year 1 booklist, must I get all the Higher Chinese books AND Normal Chinese books? I tot the boys are all doing HCL? For my boy's pri sch, doing HCL don't need normal Chinese books?

Either HCL or CL textbooks depending on what your son is taking.

And for the math textbooks, do we also buy the sec 2 math textbooks? Or just the sec 1?

We didnt buy any. School's notes and practice papers are more than enough. Cant even finish

In short, do I purchase ALL of the textbooks listed, eg sec 1 & 2 math textbooks, O level sciences textbooks and the HCL + CL textbooks plus workbooks?

We buy only HCL books and Literature only.

For uniform, I assume lower sec boys wear white shorts hor, not long pants?

White shorts for year 1 and 2

Think min 3 sets of uniforms and 3 sets of PE attire sets + 1 black polo shirt enough, if joining Sports cca? Will they need to go back on Saturdays too?

3 sets are more than enough. you need to buy polo shirt and house tshirt as well. cca tshirt will only come after you join the cca.

If I purchase the books for self collection at RI, also need 5-7 working days In for order to be ready as stated on the Casco website?
Is it better I just walk in at RI and purchase all books+uniforms altogether on 1 day?

Can buy all in one day

But also read that security guard need to see you booking confirmation before they allow you into the school? So meaning can't walk in?

No idea about that.

Sorry about the long qns, Newbie here
Anyone can advise pls ?

Hi Parents, may I check what are the tuition centres or tutors that specialize in RI curriculum that RI students go to for EL, MA and SCI? Any to recommend? My child will be Y1 next year. Thank you in advance!
My boy will be in Year 5 next year. PM me if you are interested for him to teach Maths and Science.

Hi, I’m looking for a good and patient home physics tutor for my S3 daughter who is struggling with the subject. I’m staying in clementi area. Does anyone have any recommendation?
My boy is a current Year 4 student in RI.

He is Top in Physics in his school for both Year 3 and 4. He is in both Math RA and Physics RA. Scoring above 95 for all the RA subjects he took.

He is looking for tutoring job in Nov 2023 to Feb 2024. He is interested in teaching Physics and Mathematics.

PM if you are interested.

Thank you GTGT - the students you mentioned must be genius.

With zero tuition, what are the practices and exposures the students did at home?

In my view, it is almost impossible for an adult to manage the GEP screening test papers within the given time if it is
first time expose to those questions.

What are the common habits, characteristics the GEP students have by nature ?
The 4 students I mentioned read a lot of books not in PSLE syllabus. One mummy told me her son like to read his older sibling's secondary school Science textbook. I was told another one like to read science-friction books.

1. attended English, Math tuition classes?
2. attended Olympiad classes?
3. attended GEP preparation program be it private tutor or institution?
4. attended GEP camp?

Is it possible that an ordinary child who had never been exposed to the above specific trainings and tuitions eventually being selected for the program?

Is it possible that a child being selected for GEP program, if he or she had never attended any tuition classes (even for the mainstream syllabus). Are there any success cases out there especially the child is a self learning child with basic parents guidance since P1 to P3 (the child read widely) but never attended any tuition in his /her life?

Is it true that the tuitions and enrichments will continue and expand as a necessity during the 3 years GEP program?

Parents with GEP children feedback are much appreciated. thank you!
I know of at least 4 students who had never attended tuition, olympiad training or GEP prep.

And not only they were in GEP programme, 2 of them have sibling who were in GEP programme as well. Three of them have big families so tuition were not possible.

Their PSLE scores were between 255 and 271. Nothing stellar but still managed to get into good secondary schools. (Some through DSA)
Having said that, most students (70% to 80%) do have tuition for at least one subject. Chinese being the most common.

My son got the GEP offer but his SA2 results were not exceptionally well. He did well as usual in Math and Science only. I wonder if he can cope with the demands of the highly intensive GEP.
He reads widely but he didnt do so well in composition.
My boy same case as yours.

Very good in Maths and Science but lousy in languages.

We did not hesitate to let him join the GEP when he was selected. We have agreed beforehand that if he could get in without any attending any GEP preparation programme or tuition, he is meant to be there.

He struggled in English with he was in P4 but eventually managed to graduate last year with a PSLE score above 265. No external tuition needed as long as you pay attention in class.

All the best to your boy.
