Hi, I'm new to Kiasuparents. I would like to ask how can I apply for PV at Horizon? What are the chances for PV to secure a place under phase 2B (within 1 km)? Do PVs have to go through balloting or interview to be selected? Thanks in advance! 🙂

Hihi.. I will try to help on your doubts.. For your question on how to be PV, you can check under Parent tab in their school website (https://horizonpri.moe.edu.sg/2014-06-0 ... ct/join-pc). As for the chances for PV to secure a place under phase 2B, based on a post of the history of balloting results for the past 10 years (http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/conte ... ption-risk) by the site admin ChiefKiasu, there is no balloting involved, so there is a high chance to secure a place under phase 2B (within 1 km). For your 3rd question, you may email parentsconnect.horizon@gmail.com and ask.. Hope I helped~ 😄

Hello...!! Thanks so much for answering my questions... 🙂 just one more qns (if can help me). What are some available \"duties\" for PVs? :)
Hi,

I just want to share my own findings/experience - Horizon does not accept PV for non-existing parents. The PV offered on their school website, at least for the recent one year, is more of a Parent Support Group kind of volunteering, not for parents who are looking to get their child into the school in Phase 2B. I actually wrote in to a few schools last year to ask and if I remember correctly, Horizon was one of the schools that wrote back to tell me they do not accept PVs. Maybe they used to? I am not sure...

    • RE: Mee Toh

Hi everyone! I’m just trying my luck here, seeing that this thread has been inactive for a few months…

Just submitted our PV application form yesterday and am feeling a little worried. We are both working parents, granted that my husband’s work hours are flexible and I, being an international school teacher, have long school holidays that fall during local school terms. I wonder if we will be able to manage at least 40 hours in the limited time that we are available. That is, if we get balloted for PV in the first place.

For parents here with PV experience or are very familiar with the school, can you share the kind of volunteer jobs Mee Toh normally seek for, and their usual timings? Do you think, if I have an area of expertise (I’m an ex-MOE Chinese teacher with international IB PYP experience) that I can offer my services in, and a specific block of time (almost always the week/s before or after local students’ school holidays) that I am completely free to go volunteer, that I can call the school up to let them know? I know some schools would love that (for supporting non-Chinese speakers and foreign kids), but I’ve also heard that some schools prefer parents not to be involved with any teaching (and just do manual/support volunteering work), so I am a little hesitant. Previous experience with local schools’ admin offices are they are not very warm or receptive to pro-activeness on the parents’ parts, not to mention people like us who are not even parents of the school yet…

Please offer some advise, or just say hi if you are also a PV-to-be with born-in-2012 kids!
