I have read that you will get your result scores after you have finished the test. The system will release it on the spot. The results are meant for you to know how well you have performed. But the medical school will still have to go through all the applicants results to short list them for interviews.[/quote]

NUSH has a lot of dedicated math and Sci teachers. I’ve no doubt any masterclass conducted by them is top-notch. So why wouldn’t your kid enjoy it especially if he has deep curiosity about Sci?
Would like to seek info about the P5 primary science masterclass by NUSH 😁 Did your kids enjoy the classes? Also, was the majority of the work done in the class or do they have to do their project work outside of class? Asking as P5 seems quite busy plus there is also school based project work planned. Would you strongly recommend to do if offered the masterclass?
If he were my kid, I’ll surely encourage him to go for the class; doesn’t matter how many other projects his sch will assign to him later on.
It’ll cost a bomb to send our kids privately to Sci enrichment classes and chances are, those will not be of the same calibre as masterclass which I believe is a collaboration between GEB and NUSH. This masterclass is freely offered to your kid bcoz he passed some selection tests and with due respect, he should grab it with both hands.
P/S My kid only did Math masterclass during his time and I assume Sci masterclass to be as beneficial. -

I understand where you're coming from and I agree that there's no one size fits all. That's why we should guide our kids (of varying abilities) the importance of setting reasonable, individualised goals for themselves. For instance, I will never tell my kid to aim for top 3 in class (and we both know he won't touch the top 3 even if he studies 7 days a week). And if by fluke, he makes top 3, then what next? Aim for top 2, top 1? It's never-ending and rather pointless.
But not all children are the same. We parents most will wish to have our kids in top x%, get into RI, take up leadership roles, 10 extra subjects, get RA, and claim a few scholarships. Face challenges with grit and emerge as a \"success\" case.
But the reality is that for that fraction of x%, we may be sacrificing how many other children who are just not the same types of species. These top kids can still pursue their goals even if we are lowering the bar. They can still build a stronger character from their own urges rather than an external bar if they wishes to do so. Not saying to groom a gen of strawberries children by lowering the bar. Some kids just have to have their own free time. But they are not goofing around. Could be they are seeking their own purpose. Part and parcel of finding their own identity and growing up.
I find it more beneficial if let's say he finds it interesting to streamline business processes thru the effective deployment of IT/AI (just as an eg). Then his goal should be to score well enough in A-Level to qualify for comp sci, and be prepared to continue to upgrade himself in that field after graduation. This kind of goals is both reasonable and achievable for kids of all abilities. -

I feel that the most precious present a sch can gift a student is the attribute of grit - the willingness to accept challenges, the courage to accept failures, the determination to stand up, and finally, the perseverance to try again.
Birth rate is record low, so very child is even more precious now. Every child who can cross over the lowered hurdle is better than not crossing over at all. Will always remember those kids who didn't make it through, RV boys and those who weren't in the news. System change can only do so much. Dont think taking away psle, exams is what parents want too.
Read somewhere uni places are increased too. Very heartening that someone is taking notice and actually taking action.
They recognised that producing exam smarts kids is not future proof as tge world is changing as we speak.
Grit, not straight As, is what will determine how successful one's kid will be in future. -

I'm not stressed at all with my kid's exam result ... as long as he beats Mrs Jones' kid by 1 pt. :siam:
I think what's wrong in Singapore is that people have a knee-jerk reaction to exams - every exam is a cause of severe stress. It doesn't have to be. -

I think this is a real concern, especially for the IP kids who may not have that much practice in the first place, having skipped O-Level.
I also think that removing mid-year exams may not be a good idea - don't the students need some practice? I hope teachers are still allowed to set timed tests for allow students to practise under exam constraints, just to provide student feedback. -

To one-up those pesky 变脸 practitioners, I'll tell my kid to swallow sword, breathe fire, walk on his hands, all at the same time!
I thought we already know the answer?
All results being constant, the ones who can do 变脸 will be admitted first, the sword swallowers second and the fire breathers third.

Is A-Level on a bell curve? If it is, then don't need to worry too much about more kids scoring straight A.
I dont think we need to worry for those aiming for Law/Med/Dentistry. If need be, I am sure these kids can swallow sword or spit fire in order to stand out from the rest.
So we can assume that there will be many RP70s applying for other courses like Bis Ad, Accountary etc.? The Indicative Grade Profile (IPG) will then become AAA for half the local Uni courses? So what’s next? Conduct balloting for sought after courses that do not conduct interviews?
Minister Chan has to look into creating more vacancies for popular courses I guess, if not, we will still be back to square one. After all UAS is for universities admission and we do not wish to introduce other selection criteria for university admission. Otherwise, remove stress from doing away with one content heavy subject but add stress by not having sufficient places in local universities -

Why did MOE think that reducing no. Of graded subjects will reduce stress? Now my kid has to learn 3 extra life skills - swallow sword, breathe fire and 变脸 just to differentiate himself from the rest. :rotflmao:
That one is level 1 only.
If you want to up the level and hit it out of the stadium, go learn 变脸. -

OIC. Thanks for the info.
It can no longer be taken in lieu of GP.
