I understand some schools have online forms for you to download and print. Some even accept appeals one day BEFORE posting day.

I read from an old 2004 MOE press release that principals from indep schs can withhold up to 10% of vacancies for discretionary admission. Autonomous schools up to 5% of vacancies. Not sure if this is still the current practice. But if so, perhaps chances of appeals at independent or autonomous schools could be higher since not all vacancies are taken up by dsa and s1 posting.

242 sounds like a freak score for your DS so I think he is capable of a better score. Anyway, 242 is still good that many will die for. So don't fret.
Can still try VS though I ain't optimistic.
Someone suggested anglican high and I tend to agree. It is a SAP school and has affiliation to SAJC. If your DS has HMT bonus point to add, there is a chance to be accepted.

IMO, ngee ann should be within reach for your DS.

242 is not a bad score. Can try for anglican high, chung cheng high, tanjong katong girls, tanjong katong secondary, ngee ann, dunman sec,

He would like to choose Ngee Ann as his first. As what we also thinking. Then before PSLE results out he wanted to choose VS (O or IP prog).
Unfortunately, he gonna to wake up by his dream. As he scored 242. VS (GCE O level) is 243 cut off point.
