    • RE: CMA Math - Discussion

The teacher cum receptionist behaved so because she is multi-tasking to guide the child (likely to make the kid to finish his undone work after the class) and attending to walk in customers’ enquiry/phone calls. Maybe we should not make our judgement that the teacher is threathening the kid, because I believe in this case, the kids had failed to complete his homework( and maynot be the first time). Of course, I agreed that the teacher should attempt to check the reason why the kid was disinterested and help to change the attitude, but they are not god, ultimately, it is the also the kid and his parents’ duty to check with the teacher if anything uncleared and have a positive attitude in learning.

      Hi JHJC,

No worry about that, just make sure she follow the way teacher teaches in the school and use CMA skill to counter check the answer instead. Their math ability will definitely be better than their peers who didn’t learn CMA .

my daughter has been in CMA for 1 yr 2 mth, she is somehow slowing down in her CMA work and refuse to do more than what the teacher had stamped. I know many parents in CMA is rushing their kids to finish the book so that they could get on to the next grade, not sure whether this is healthy for the kids as they may feel very tiring.

      Hi Yippy,

Sure! Hopefully our kids could be in the same class too. Btw, how your child be going to school next year? by bus or… ? I’ve checked with the teacher there, seem like there isn’t any CCA open for pri 1 except rhythmic gym. I would want to request for them to open up Indian dance or chinese dance classes for my child.

      Hi Yippy,

Yes, already enrolled my girl to AIPS. The school had also sent me a mailer to confirm the registration and inform that the orientation for pri one will be on 15 Nov 2008. 🙂

Don't be too overly stress up, all this will be over soon. 😛

      Hi Yippy,

Like what i previously mentioned, Yishun pri is merging with Pei Xin pri, ultimately, the Yishun's name is confirmed to be continued. The new school premises at current Pei Xin pri is undergoing construction, looking at the progress, may not able to be used by year end. Can't comment the after effect after the upgrading but I personally don't like the school premises. 2 pointers which I noticed after the merged, the school policy, CCAs and niches may need some time to re-establish. Teachers of the 2 schools will be reshuffled and some may be transferred out, this may caused some uncertainty among the teaching staff. Hopefully they could resolve these teething issue this 3-4 months if not the students will be affected.

Heard from my child's K2 teacher who stayed near Hua min that the teachers there are very committed. Both Naval Base and Hua min are not academic driven, this can be a plus point for the growth of a happy kid. 😄

Heard from a mother of 4 that Pei Ying that she is not happy with the school, roughly heard that the teachers actually let the children to exchange books and marked on each other books. :?
Though I stayed within 1km from Jiemin, I decided to not wasting my time to ballot in phase 2c. Furthermore, also don't like the journey and the upkeep of the premises there.

Chosen Ahmad Ibrahim pri in the end as the environment is conducive, reputated with good teachers and near my house. Want to join me? 😉

    • RE: [Yishun] Primary Schools

Today went to 4 pri sch with my girl, just to let her see the different environment and observe her preference. The following is the personal observation by myself and my girl:

1st school visited: Jie Min Primary School - Was not impressed by the rowdy boys playing around the entrance(side), felt that the premises are not well maintained and the building layout not very welcoming. Importantly, the lengthy walk from my house to the school is not well sheltered and need to go thru many HDB blks.

2nd school visited: Pei Xin Primary School - I know that the registration is at Yishun Primary but understand that the premises to hold the 2 merged school (i.e. Pei Xin and Yishun) will be at Pei Xin School, which is currently under construction. Had got in the school at the un-manned side gate, the garden looks dull and the construction in progress make the area untidy. Overall, can’t see any signage and was finding my way to go the hall. Have a glimpse of the girls toilet, looks bright and cheerful. Suddenly disturbed by the noise of the passing mrt, where the track is pretty close to the school. Was finally chased out by the security guard after I entered the canteen area, asked her questions but her reply was rather rude and turn off. Coincidently, when I was reading a banner on " bully in school", some boys who just look like the subject titled walked past me. I looked at my small framed girl and decided that this school is not for me lah…

3rd school visited: Ahmad Ibrahim Pri Sch - My girl could hardly pronouce the English name of the school properly, didn’t attempt to let her read it in Mandarin. Actually not in my plan of visit, but since it is next to Pei Xin, might as well go in and have a look. And to my surprise, the place is very pleasant, there are even 3 designated bus lanes specially designed for student to safely get down from the school bus. The premises is well maintain, simple but functional. The overall design of the school is good welcoming and naturally well lit. Met some of the teachers there, all seemed approachable and ready to answer to our query. My girl likes the place and had finally managed to pronouce the name by the time she reached home.

4th school visited: Chong Fu Pri Sch - A grand facade and entrance to the school, overall the school is big and spacious for many activities to be carried. Met with 2 friendly school volunteers, after walking a big round to find the seminar room for pri 1 reg. They told me that there are already 100+ applicants stay<1km>1km. Though disappointed, was glad that I have a chance to view the school as I usually can only stared from afar outside the sch. One of the volunteer is kind enough to suggest to me to enrol my girl in AIP since it is near my house and also, she had a friend whose son is happily studying there as the teachers there are good.

Conclusion: Ahmad Ibrahim Pri Sch, sorry for not even considering you previously. Tomorrow I will come and register with you.

    • RE: [Yishun] Primary Schools

      Hi 2galsmum,

Thanks for your advise to me 😄 , ok with Anderson as many of my girl's K2 classmate are going there, I am now monitoring its appl rate as it is currently below the phase 2c vacancy rate, may try if no balloting is required. For Yishun (or Peixin), had called up the 2 offices to check on the coming changes to the school operation, only manage to know that p1&p2 going to be in afternoon session and the principal will remained as Yishun pri principal, i.e Mr Chan, the rest of the details are yet to be finalise, seemed like the staff themselves are also wondering what is their fate after the merge. Fear that my girl will be a guinea pig for the new merge school, hence feel like trying for Jiemin and get the thrill in balloting (if there is need for those staying within 1km). Sigh....... really not sure, I hope \"my\" choice will not impact my girl's future, I regret not to be more Kiasu and persistance with my husband to be kiasu too.

Conclusion: tomorrow is the DAY, wish me luck.

[Moderator's Note: Threads split and merged.]

😞 My girl applying for pri 1 this week too, now still strategising which school to apply and likely to apply only on Thursday when looking at the latest applicants no. Anyone know whether if I call the school up to ask for the no, they would entertain me or expect me to go to the school to look at the notice board? I am staying at Yishun, previously thought could try Aitong(SAP sch) under the clan(SHHK), phase 2b but wasn't given the recommendation letter by the clan despite me appealing to them. Now I am still eyeing on SHHK's school, i.e. Chong Fu but I am under the category of 1-2km. I have alt plan to enrol in the following school in order of priority, depending on their applicant status by Thursday morning. They are:

      1) Anderson Pri Sch > 2km
      2) JieMin Pri Sch - < 1km
      3) Northland Pri Sch 1-2 km

I think I am taking a risk and Thursday will be a very busy day for me. If all the above failed, will need to go to phase 2c supp, think I would consider letting my girl to go to Yishun Pri sch or Ahmad Ibrahim Pri sch. Anyone out there, pls give me your comment on this two schools ?

I hope I make the right plan and no heart attack this few days, chew... I don't recall my mum need to go thru all this headache when I was pri one.
