lol. how do you know the top schools don't teach resilience? your argument is flawed. at least we know the top schools aren't losers
and i have no respect for this school's authorities/corp comms given how the incident was reported on 18th Jan in the Straits Times \"NUS High School student in coma after falling 6 floors\"
It was totally distasteful how the 2nd last paragraph went
\"Students from the school last year ended a 14-year gold drought at the International Mathematical Olympiad\"
- what does this even got to do with the student falling 6 floors?
- and to my knowledge, it was 2 students from RI, 1 from ACS(I) and 1 from NUSHS that got gold medals last year at the International Mathematical Olympiad.
can't believe ending a gold drought at the International Mathematical Olympiad is more important than a student who was in a coma (now dead). says much about the school.
The report was printed in the strait times. A logical assumption is that it was written by a ST reporter. I am not sure how you came to conclusion that 2nd last para came from NUSH. I really don't think NUSH has the power to dictate what is printed in the ST.

Child went to NUSH via dsa 2 years ago but this had been mode of practice in previous years. Thanks Jenn. That, if true, would really be a bonus! But what I've been told is otherwise.
I hope u r saying this from your experience in applying /admitting ur child's to NUSH. -

When NUSH notifies a student of his successful admission into NUSH on 15 Dec, is it a notification or an offer? Meaning, is the student already admitted or is he given the opportunity to wait for the S1 posting results to decide.
When NUSH notify student, it is an offer. Unlike DSA, student do not have to accept until after S1 posting. To accept, student has to notify S1 posted school that he is transfering to NUSH.
In previous years, NUSH PSLE admission and S1 are two seperate excercise. Accepting NUSH offer does not open up a place for the other school via S1. It opens up a place in the other school for another student to be accepted via the appeal process. So when you accept NUSH PSLE offer, you are actually transfering from your S1 posted school to NUSH. When you reject NUSH, they may call someone who was previously rejected in their PSLE selection phase. So there are some students who were rejected by NUSH PSLE selection who later gets an offer during the last few days of dec. Yes it will be musical chairs during the last few days of dec.Jenn:
I'm given to understand that, the very purpose of NUSH declaring their results a week in advance is to get the students to commit. Once accepted, it is relayed to MOE to reflect in the S1 list. If both S1 & NUSH lists are left open, there'll be recycling of both S1 & NUSH lists, which they may not be happy to entertain.
Parents of NUSH students: Pls share your experience on this.
As for COP, NUSH's site says it was 257 last yr. Since the spread has reduced this yr, the COP could be higher. -

To apply for NUSH PSLE selection, you need 250 and A* in both math and science. So basically the principal is not saying anything.Hi,
May I know roughly what will be the cut off point for nus high this year?
Yesterday went to nus high, and the principal said its 250 and above, but I reckon it will be higher.
thanks.

RE: 2010 DSA(Direct School Admission)

For the DSA School Preference Exercise, you can either indicate your preference directly via the internet, or through your primary school via a form. As the NUSH date of Oct 25-29 is the same as MOE's dates, I believe NUSH is taking part in the same exericse. In which case, you should be able to make your choice of school (NUS included) via MOE's website.
Like all schools participating in the DSA process, NUSH is included in the DSA school preference exercise. So to accept your CO or WL, you have to list NUSH as one of the schools in your preference (you can only indicate up to 3 schools). All students who have been given CO or WL will be informed by their primary school to make their preference. If you do not indicate a DSA school which has given you a CO or WL, you are deemed to have rejected the offer.

NUSH is NOT part of the MOE posting system, while ACSI is still part of the posting system
But they told in yesterda's session that we have to put in our preference in the Preference form Oct25-29 thru the primary school .
I think that are not part of MOE PSLE posting but for DSA its the same as others. Got to clarify.
NUSH Ksper , pls shed light :?:
bit blur today
NUSH does not participate in the MOE PSLE posting exercise. After the PSLE results are out, students who are keen to enter NUSH with their PSLE results can apply directly thru the NUSH website. This means that students who do not been allocated a school thru DSA can apply to 6 schools in the PSLE posting exercise and also apply directly to NUSH thru their website. -

I too did not hear that NUSH has interiew -- if so, then no chance again for DS as I did not get call and daily, my heart skip a beat when my HP rings................
In the past years, NUSH did interview a few applicants who were in the boarderline of being in the waitlist or rejected. Those put into the wailist have a good chance of eventually getting in.
NUSH DSA process did not mention about interview. Guess your DD is a special case?wonderm:

RE: SMO Junior
verykiasu2010:
I think one of the reason is that in recent years more top students are now more willing to go to NUSH after the school established themselves in competitions and gained recognition with top overseas universities. There is now less uncertainty on the acceptance of the NUSH diploma.Zann:
Wow! It looks like most winners come from NUSH, RI and then HCI.
NUS High dominates the SMO Junior top 10
and RI dominates the SMO senior top 10
why the switch around ?
math geeks all gone to NUSH and hence RI's talent dried up ?
When the seniors entered the school, they were taking the path less traveled. While many liked the modular system and no \"A\" level, there was no track record from a relatively new school. Nobody graduated from NUSH yet at that time. Then the first batch graduated one and a half years ago and showed that they could enter top universities other than NUS. -

Not all IP schools offer the school based gifted education (SBGE) programme.well the list does not incl the TOP TOP schools such as RI, RGS, HCI etc.
The newspaper list is based on O level results. These really CREAM of CROP school do NOT take O level. They offer IP- Integrated Progam wher stdnts do not take O lvl. They have 6 years pro and at end of 6 years they take either GCE 'A' level or IB International Baccalaureate Diploma which is offered by ACS(I).
IP schools:
Anglo Chinese School (Independent)
Duman High Sch
Hwa Chong Inst
Nanyang Girls High Sch -- which ll joined HCI in HCJC
National JC
RGS --which joined RI at RJC
RI
River Valley High
NUS High School of Maths and Science -- 6 yrs IP leading to NUS HIgh sch Diploma
These school are schools that offered GEP at school based. All GEP stdnts from primary ll go to one of these inst to cont their GEP prog.
There are currently 7 IP schools which offer SBGE.
This link to MOE website lists the 7 IP schools.
