TTC and doodbug, thanks for the sharing...
First half of Sec 1 has passed. Indeed, a great motivation to progress to the next :grphug:
For history, my son actually struggled a little with the worksheet that teacher gave. He ended up getting some extra worksheet from bookstore for exam practice.
Next half, they will be doing Geography. How to tackle this subject please? Can anyone share some thought?
This is said to be a very very broad subject, and hard, if compared to History.
TIA.

Edit: check iemb to sign up, I think after orientation week.Maple leaf:
Hi, may I ask if in HCI, the focus for Science in year 1-2 is mainly on Phy and Chem, and only minimumly on Bio? So one will need to opt for Bio in year 3 in order to go more in-depth into it? Also, is there any other talent program for Science in year 1, apart from the SMTP program in year 3? Thanks.
Can sign up for Science Olympiad training which includes all 3,Physics, Chem, and Biology.if .DS enjoys it.
He wants to join again next year.
Once a week after school, lasting mid Feb to end July
Hi, Maple leaf,
My DS attended the test, but, he says not easy.
Normally how many days will Mr. Tan release the result?
What was your DS experience? :? -

We really enjoyed the session with Consortium Director and his team. And also had a good time during the Sec 1 Symposium, except some parents already chope the front rows with their bags and other belongings   even though it was still quite early.doodbug:
Hi!
Does anyone know where the Sec 1 camp will be held?
Hope everyone had a fruitful MTP last Saturday.
So let me warn you people here!
I will bring whatever bags I have to the next year Sec 2 Symposium to chope all front row seats because I canβt let myself down for 2 consecutive years!!!

:rotflmao:
just kidding.
Well, it was a fruitful and really huh huh, it was information overload for one whole day.
Though we already search for all the relevant information when it was presented in front of us still it was a gasp.
I hope my DS can cope though. -

hwachie:
Oh, thanks hwachie for the detail explanation...
Hi everyone, just like to clarify a few things.joy0727:
If not mistaken, the schedule looks this way:
1st Week: CCA Orientation Outdoor Sports then CCA Orientation Indoor Sports, Clubs & Societies
2nd Week: CCA Orientation for Uniformed Groups then CCA Orientation for Performing Arts
3rd Week: DS can start go for trials.
Just not too sure, how the trials works yet.
>>> Noted also that, after the trial period, they will have to fill up an online submission form (9 options), not sure where this form as yet.
>>> Should be early February, they must fill up the form.
>>> By Middle February, the results of what they will get for their CCAs, will be released
>>> DS must start reporting to the CCA allocated for them, but at the meanwhile, they can appeal, within the next few days.
>>> Regardless of their appeal results, they will have to stick to that CCAs, for Sec 1 to Sec 4, at least. Preferably, not to change
somewhat similar to the highschool placement process
Firstly, the information provided seems to be for last year's CCA Orientation. (the one on ISP is last yr's document)
Not too many changes, but the timeline for CCA Orientation is as follows:
CCA Orientation Part I (Sports) - Completed during SOO
CCA Orientation Part II (Uniformed Groups) - 10 Jan 2018
CCA Orientation Part III (*I forgot whether Clubs first or Performing Arts first*) - 12 Jan 2018
CCA Orientation Part IV (*The other one*) - 17 Jan 2018
Thereafter, the timeline is mostly the same. During the CCA Orientation, it is unlike during the Sports CCAs, where everyone got a chance to try out, because most CCAs don't require prior knowledge to join. Instead, most CCAs choose to showcase what they do during normal training sessions, then your son may choose to indicate whether he's interested to go for trials*. There are certain CCAs with specific skillsets such as Chinese Chess/Weiqi, which may ask students to play against seniors, and at the end only ask selected students to indicate their interest.
*Indicating interest for trials or going for trials repeatedly is not a sure-fire way to join the CCA; neither is indicating interest going to force the student into the CCA - most of the time it's for CCAs to contact students regarding trial information.
Thereafter, in the trial period, students may visit as many CCAs as they want (or as much as time permits). Some CCAs may choose to provide further insights to their CCA, some may have questions for them (e.g. why interested, other commitments...), or other CCAs looking out for certain potential may give students opportunities to show their skills.
It is recommended that students visit multiple CCAs, because there's a 9-option form to fill up at the end of the trial period, which goes something like this:
Sports - Min 1; Max 3 // UG - Min 1; Max 2 // Clubs & Societies - Max 2 // Performing Arts - Max 2 and if I recall correctly, students also need to indicate their preferred category.
However,
a) Students need not fill up all 9 options
b) Students need to be willing to join any of the CCAs which they listed down, even the UG
c) Over the years, there have also been stories of coaches telling students that they're \"confirm in; just need put first choice\", but in the end student failed to get in as CCA had limited spots -> joined unwanted CCA
In conclusion, students need to keep an open mind throughout CCA Orientation, and put in effort in whichever CCA he ends up in.
Hope this helps

Yes, yes, I obtained all this information from the HCI portal. My DS downloaded a CCA information pdf file for 2017 which I used as a guide.
When will they upload the 2018 file? I heard from my DS, the CCA orientation trial will start from 16 Jan onwards. I also saw that there is a timetable for the trial for year 2017, haven't seen anything as yet for this year though. :scratchhead:
