Yes, today no crowd at all. This morning also went to Unity as my hubby also prefer Unity. Was told that already 90 applicant who is <1km to compete for 67 vacancy, then very firm to register at Yew Tee. Although Yew Tee will go into balloting, but think not so bad....hope for the best...

I will definitely attend the balloting session. 😒

I wonder if out of ballot, can put waiting list immediately, in case some parents withdraw before school term starts next year?
Any parent has experience? I am super..super...kiasu now.
Yes, you can put in waiting list immediately but for Unity the priority will go to the children that required special needs and they will also conduct interview.

My son is P2 this year. No so much homework from Mon to Thur ; more hw on Friday, still ok as he can do it over the weekend πŸ˜„

But I felt that the Chinese is quite tough in SV compare to other school. They have Chinese spelling and dictation (the sentences are quite difficult).

    • RE: All about Transferring to Other Primary Schools

      Just to share my experience.

When I could not get the school that I wanted my son to enter after balloting 2 years ago, I put him in the waiting list. I did not receive any phone call from them since then. So after getting his P1 results, I faxed it to the school around mid Nov’08. I called the school and as usually they told me no vacancy.

Surprisingly, they called me 3 days before school open (end Dec'08)and asked whether I am still interested to transfer my son to their school. I went to the school immediately and get the paper works done within a day, buying uniforms & books also. And he started P2 in his new school. πŸ˜„

So I think you just need to wait till year end, fax your daughter latest result to them and call them again.

      Hope this helps.

    • RE: About the STELLAR program

      Hi KS_me,

:? I don’t really feel the different yet but I prefer STELLA.

STELLA system encourages students to read story books. And I always see story books in my son school bag last year. Teacher would bring some books to the class for the students to borrow or bring the students to the library.

And this year (in my son new school), he has not even step into his school library yet. Always playing during recess time, no time to go library!!! :x

    • RE: About the STELLAR program

For my son school, they already started using STELLAR for few years. I heard that they send their teachers overseas to learn this program.

Since there was no textbook, their teachers created a book, called "
The big book", for the students to study/revise. And, they have a lot of booklet to do in school also.

My son used the booklets to study for his exam last year (P1).

But this year, i have transferred him to another school and his new school does’t use STELLAR.

    • RE: Chinese As 2nd Language For non-Chinese

      Hi mum03,

During the school registration, just fill up a form that you want your daughter to study Chinese as 2nd lang.

After that during school orientation, some more forms to fill up and you need to proof that your daughter studied chinese during her kindergarten by submitting her progress report (at least 2 or 3 years) or a letter from the kindergarten's Principal. The school will then submitted to MOE for approval.

Usually, MOE will just approve it.

      Hope this info help. πŸ˜‰

can MOE school teachers moonlight as tutors?

Not sure whether it is against regulation, but during my time, my JC lecturer moonlight giving tuition. Also saw in some tuition center having MOE teacher as tutor and they cost more.

My sis is a primary school teacher, she told me before that MOE allowed them to give tuition few hours per month.
