Hi my girl is 1M taking the ‘O’ level programme. She is struggling to understand geography and History and she told me they are learning History of Singapore before 1819. The textbooks do not provide sufficient information, we have a hard time finding information via the internet for Singapore History. Can someone please share with me any good guidebook or assessment book to help her out. She is starting to avoid studying or revising on these two subjects.

Buying her a laptop and worrying what if she gonna lost the laptop. Makes me wonder why Apple MacBook don’t have AppleCare coverage for replacement in the event of lost or damage. But they have AppleCare lost and damage replacement for iphoneX…will be very heartpain if she lost a laptop next time.

Angry with my girl, just the third week of school, she misplaced her wallet after recess break yesterday, until today she couldn’t find it anywhere in the general office or prefects room. Worst off, she also lost her literature poetry book ‘little things’ which she left it under her classroom table on Tuesday. I’m wondering is there someone who steal her stuff, pardon me for saying that. She was using her wallet to buy food at the canteen but by 3.30pm before she leaves the school, she realized her wallet was no longer in her bag or pocket. This really upset me since this is a good school but what to do since it’s her own fault for being careless and not responsible enough to look after her own things. 🤷

But my girl had been asked to bring 3 times already since last week, though teacher said can use hp too or share if didnt bring.

So it is still better to have one to carry school on needed days as using hp might be too straining to eyes and cannot ask always for friends to share too.
But really not necessary to buy expensive ones ,just a basic configuration- light weight one should do.
Yes my girl also been telling me her Chinese teacher is giving the class until next week to bring a laptop to school.
I’m now headache whether to get her a MacBook or just a normal laptop. At the same time worrying whether she will misplaced it
Need help from 2018, Sec 1 parents. My gal came back with a slip to activate her cedar email account.

This link given to her to activate her account is http://account.google.com, however this link don't seems to work, error message that the page cannot be displayed. Any parents out there facing the same problem as me.

Oh thanks for the information and yes my girl managed to activate her account today

Also, any idea do we need to buy a laptop soon, what's the school recommendation, I can't find any information from the school website. Thanks. :thankyou:

My DD's teacher mentioned can share laptop if your DC doesn't have one. (Not sure whether eventually might still need to get one.)

Don't mind me kaypo on this. I am a dad so computers is my department. I bought for DD1 a fairly top-of-the-line Asus Zenbook. Cost me $2k. Under 1kg and Core i5. After 1 year, I realized

1. The laptop was over powered for the things she has to do.
2. Bec it was so powerful, she uses it to watch Korean movies while doing her work. And not just 1 movie. A few movies. Alt Tab out when I approach.
3. She developed an entitlement mentality. Didn't take care of her notebook.

I reasoned ok, first child. Made a mistake. She is in the IP stream. Has a lot of projects to hand in. Maybe just write off the cost and manage her attitude.

For DD2 who joined the O level stream this year, I got smarter. I bought her an Asus Vivobook. Cost $369 brand new on Q10. Has the most basic of specs to run Microsoft Office. Uses a Celeron processor (for mommies, it means a low end processor chip. The notebook just operates slower). This notebook didnt meet the school's requirement, but it met mine - below 1 kg. I absolutely abhor my kids carrying heavy bags. They have this turtle mentality. Carry everything they own to school.

The funny thing is when DD2 brought her notebook to school this week, half the class could not connect to the school's Wireless network. So they had to share notebooks. So I wouldnt worry too much about the notebook. Buy them something simple will do. You don't need Core i3 to operate Microsoft Office. They will just need Word and Internet Explorer. If they even get to use it in school given the poor WiFi coverage. Else, just go home use desktop.
