    • RE: Raffles Institution (Year 1-4)

      ++++++++++++++

      You can find 2009 cohort's A level results here: http://www.ri.edu.sg/bookshelf/2010_Institution_Report_Section1_web.swf (Page 12)
      Compare with 2010 cohort: http://www.ri.edu.sg/files/RI_2010_A-Level_Result_Release.pdf

      9 distinctions: 2 students (2009), 3 students (2010) (almost the same...)
8 distinctions: 84 students (2009), 73 students (2010). In the 2010 slides, 8 distinctions and above are listed as 76, so we have to deduct the 3 students with 9 distinctions. Drop of 10 students from 2009.
7 distinctions: 217 students (2009), 169 students (2010). In the 2010 slides, 7 distinctions and above are listed as 245, so we have to deduct the 76 students with 8 and 9 distinctions. Drop of 48 students from 20009.
      6 distinctions: 303 students (2009), 261 students (2010). Drop of 42 students.

Results are still good, but it has gone down from 2009...

Yr 2010, DHS IP & RVH IP re in participation.
Most of DHS & RVH IP guys re otherwise either landed in RJC or HCI fought for the honour in their own names.
We ve to concede that DHS & RVH IP re as good as RJC & HCI.
Btw, RJC & HCI re still miles ahead of the rest of the field.
Hope I am not wrong that RJC & HCI re well balanced in both Science & Human/Arts disciplines. They ve intelligent students and those GEPs re even more intellecturally smart. They should be very science inclined but many of them went to Human programme and Arts stream. Whereas, some of the top JCs put a condition on admission of top 'O' level students to their JCs that they must go to Science stream.

    • RE: A-level results this year

      Koh Ming Ming:

P1-P3 Red Swastika School, 3rd of the cohort for 3 consecutive years.
One of the 7 Red Swastika students won a GEP place and She chose Tao Nan Pri Sch GEP P4-P6.
Her Chinese composition in P2 was already in a standrad better than P6 elites.
Info from reliable source that she was admitted to RGSS but she changed her mind and took up Bicultural studies at NYGH.
After graduated from NYGH she went to HCI to finish the final 2 years of IP programme.
Congratulation to her for her academic exellence!

    • RE: Hwa Chong Institution (High School)

      HCI(Sec) iSpark - 3 classes and 27 ea, so u have = 81 +

      ie, GEP boys <=81
I recall the iSpark Sec 1 name list (Yr 2005) and it had many non-GEP guys and they were the Platinum and Gold winners of SMOP; and some were even in the top 40s of the APMOP. Coincidentally they were the top scorers of their respective schools mostly at the west.

    • RE: Hwa Chong Institution (High School)

      GEP - 1% of total P3 cohort =500 (Boys + Girls)

Actual GEP cohort in P4 and thereafter < 500. Why? Not all take up the offer and for many reasons.
Ratio is usually Boys: Girls = 3:2
ie, Boys < 300 and Girls <200 and RI takes in about 150 GEP boys every year and based on RI Principal’s proclamation there will be about 170 GEP boys in RI this year thus left about <130 for other institutions. Most of these <130 GEP boys are probably n HCI, ACS(I) & NUSH and a few of them may be in DHS and RV.
HCI iSpark houses the GEP boys but I suppose the no are <=50 and about 30+ students are the top scorers mostly from neighbourhood schools located at the west.

    • RE: Appeal Secondary One Posting

Cedar 2011 Sec 1 intake has not turnrd IP so I see no harm unless this intake will get the benefit to boarding the ship when Cedar Sec 1 turns IP in 2012 but I doubt VJC would be ready to accommodate the changes.

    • RE: Appeal Secondary One Posting

RI was the 1st Sec school to run the Sec sch GEP (Sec 1 to Sec 4) in 1984. The other was RGSS. As regards primary school it is Rosyth & RGPS started the GEP course (P4 to P6).

Until 2006 when the then Minster of Education felt that 500 GEP students every year was too small force rekoning that Spore could extend the 1% talents to 3% therefore the IP course and RI merged its GEP & non-GEP in 2006.
      For yr 2005 & 2006 (each) there were about 6 classes of GEP (approx 25 x 6) and 9 classess of non-GEP (approx 32 x 9).
2004 PSLE top student (who is non-GEP student) was in a non-GEP class. 2005 PSLE top student (who is from Rosyth GEP) was in a GEP-class.
Of the 500 (actually less than 500 as some of those selected didn’t take up GEP offer) Pri 6 GEP every year, boys & girls ratio is 3:2. U see that about 150 GEP boys of the total 300 are in RI. GEP student’s PSLE mean score is about 262. GEP std is there to tell.
Go to RI’s web u will see that the mean & median read as 266 & 265. u will see the toughness if u are in the road. make u own judgement. RI too has its unique cultures & no everyone can immerse.
