RE: GEP 2019
this thread is really interesting, comparing my 2 kids, my elder girl is P4 this year, very matured and she reads since 3 years old, before primary school already reading novel, academically considered among the top, yet she didn’t even make it to GEP second round… lol
My boy, P3 this year, contrary to the sister, never like reading. Not long ago, he started reading Beast Quest just for the cards collection. We were all surprise he got into second round of GEP selection, I think that was a great achievement for him already… lol -

While Rosyth should be applauded for good results of having 1 in 3 scoring > 250, we should also be concerned that https://rosyth.moe.edu.sg/about-us/our-achievements/2015. Makes me wonder how many GEP students are the contributors of those high scores and if those numbers are taken away, how would the result of the cohort looks like.

Well, every school has special students and there are reasons why students \"choose\" not to go express. I don't think it is worrisome, these students are given another avenue to excel in what they are good at.
At the end of the day, MOE will tell you every school is a good school lol! -
RE: GEP 2019
Rosyth has mix classes where 4 classes of GEP+mainstream students study together. The selected students (academic merit basis) are put into those classes, and my elder girl is in those classes. The main subjects, i.e. English, Math, Science and Chinese, students will go to their lessons separately, i.e. GEP with GEP, mainstream with mainstream, only PE, Social study or other non-academic subjects, they’ll mingle around.
If your kid were to reject GEP, I think he or she’ll be put in the waiting list to be enrolled into the school whenever there’s a vacancy, but no guarantee that he or she can be in those selected classes, because it is still base on results, and believe me, it is very competitive among the children.
Among those selected students, they themselves constantly giving themselves stress, because they are among the best selected from the cohort, many of them have consistent results above 95% all subjects.
My boy, since P1, scored 90% above for all his subjects but he was never among the top 20% of his cohort, never received any Edusave Award from PA, this is how competitive top school like Rosyth can be.
Having said that, I salute the teachers of Rosyth, they really have the mechanism in driving good results, every 1 in 3 students scored above 250 in PSLE in the past years, yet my kids never feel stress from their school works, in fact, prior to P4, both my kids seldom have school home works, not even during school holiday. Thus, I’m a bit scared and I think it is also good if my boy is not selected for GEP, he is too lazy and I can’t imagine the load of work he has to do if he really manage to get into GEP, lol. -
RE: GEP 2019
It has been a long time I didn’t post here and can’t believe this is my first post after years…
Firstly I’m a proud mother just like everyone of you, my son passed first round and went through these 2 days of tests. We didn’t expect him to pass first round and it was quite a surprise to all of us. My boy is a happy go lucky type of person, but I really see him stressed out these 2 days, I can see that he’s happy to be selected for the tests and hoping to be selected for the program. He said English and Math were tough while the 2 GAT were ok. One of his friends actually tossed eraser to get the answers… lol
Anyway, good luck to all! -

RE: Fresh Maid or Transfer Maid
I would prefer fresh maid than transfer maid. To me, 90% of transfer maid are problematic maid, worst if you get those been transferred few times. When I hire my maid last time, the agency always try to give me transfer maid and all the reasons are unreasonable employers or employers decided to stop having maid, I don’t hear any reason because the maid can’t work well, I recon they won’t tell you the truth.
Another reason I prefer fresh maid is they are more willing to learn, you can train them according to your preference, those experienced ones are very stubborn to change.
For salary, I don’t suggest salary increment to mark to market, they always compare and no matter how much you increase, if they want to leave they’ll still leave. For my maid, she intend to extend her 2 year contract, I told her no salary increment but I’ll give her another 1 mth of bonus whenever she renew her contract. She’s happy with that. No doubt they are calculative, but they’re smart too, my maid totally understand high pay might not equal to better work. And I’m open if she would prefer to work for others who offer her higher pay. -
RE: Club Hougang
Yup, the in charge now is Florence, I find her a bit blur coz she forgotten my boy’s intake is in Jan, but overall she’s a nice lady.
The only bad points I could think of is the school very crowded. Got one Malay teacher a bit fierce to the students, but I heard from my husband this Malay teacher is also very caring to the students, anyway she’s not taking care of my kids so I got no much comment.
The less experience teachers normally look after younger kids, the more experienced ones will promote to look after older kids in K1 and K2. The teachers consist of quite many PRC and Filipino, but I’m ok with it coz they speak better Chinese and English.
Jan and Feb are normally a more chaotic period coz many new students and new teachers, the school will be noisy with kids crying around. But it’ll settle down starting from March, so you may consider put your kids there after March.
When my gal started the school, my helper accompanied her there almost one month, slowly reduced the hours spent with her. The teachers never told my helper to leave unlike other Kindy which do not allow parents to stay in the school for more than 3 days. So far both my kids have smooth transition adapting to the school.
My gal performed on their year end concert last year, I saw her progress from a shy kid to a kid with confidence, I really like how the school has groom her.
Try visit the school during different hours e.g. morning, noon, afternoon to get a better idea of the school. It is open concept so you could see what the kids are doing in the school.
