    • RE: 2014 A Level Results

      White Earth:
It would be nice to know each school mean university admission score...

So far, RI presented that their mean UAS is 85.
HCI said that their median (note that it is different from mean) UAS is 86.63.
RV presented in their slide that their mean UAS is 81.93.

mean UAS was the metric that MOE used to rank JCs in the old days.

Can anyone verify if RI median is 87.7?
Heard from dd2, but she's quite the blur type.

    • RE: NUS High School of Mathematics and Science (Diploma)

      FantasyLandDreams:
May I know usually when is NUSH open house?

Also, I'm just wondering, since NUSH is for those good in maths and science, does it also mean that quite a fair bit of students end up in NUS medicine course eventually as they are 'stronger' in triple science results? Anyone can share how many went medicine per year roughly? Thanks.
Not sure about Nus Med, but not many in LKCSom, just a couple of them. Most of the students come from JCs.

Also, the medical schools are not looking for people who are exceptionally strong in maths or science. They look for people whom they feel will make a good doctor. Moreover, you don't need triple science, but must however have at least a B grade (A levels) in chemistry among your subjects.

Thank you for sharing, GiftedGem. The badge initiation ceremony was simple, yet a momentous event. The year ones are now officially part of the family. My daughter was glad that she has a nice da jie jie in the school. A number of seniors even gave their juniors a hug after pinning on the badges for them. It made the juniors feel welcomed!

Congrats to ACSI for superb performance!

Can anyone enlighten me regarding who sets the IB exam? Do all students take the exam during the same period? I read that students take 6 subjects, which will give a max of 42 points, what about the remaining 3 points?

Archery equipment is expensive, easily more than a $1000. If your child is already shooting, and wishes to continue, then it’s ok to spend. Usually school clubs will provide the equipment for new comers during the cca trial. Check with school first.

Since Pri 5 students get to receive ESPS, it has to be based on their school exam performance.

Of the prc friends who were in dd1’s class (RI), they’ve all left Singapore after A levels, to US and UK. Even though these students have come to Singapore since young, Singapore is just an ‘overseas’ country for them. So, studying in Singapore or any other country makes no difference.

The Edusave scholarship that I mentioned earlier is for primary 5 and 6 students, it is different from the Edusave (Independent) yearly awards. Don’t know why so many awards start with ‘Edusave’, it’s confusing.

Hi Dagong, thanks for the prompt reply!

Then how about the ESSIS? Is it same thing or different thing?

Edusave scholarship is awarded to the top 10% of students. You'll get a cert and a cheque during the presentation. This is a one-off award.

EESIS is Edusave Entrance Scholarship for Independent Schools. This is awarded to Singaporean students who are in the top one-third of the total number of sec 1 pupils admitted to all independent schools, based on their PSLE results. The tenure of this scholarship is 4 years for non-ip, and 6 years for ip students. Students must make good progress in their studies to continue getting this scholarship.

For 2014, the EESIS cut off was 257.xxx.
You don't need to apply for this scholarship.
If you're paying your school fees through Giro, you'll notice that the sum deducted is lesser than the actual fees, thanks to EESIS.

It is possible to get both scholarships as they are different. Dd3 got both.
