shaber:Put your dream school as the top choice. Since you have 6 choices and you have some schools with cop below your score, there is no harm trying.IMO, I think 9 points difference is huge , you are taking a risk and probably wasting your choice. Temasek as 1st choice is more realistic, if I were you.Wishace:Needed some advice and hope that fellow parents can help.
DS t-score is 230 and we are looking at sch in the east.
We are thinking of arranging our 6 choices as follows :
1. Tanjong Katong Sec Sch (COP 239)
2. Temasek Sec Sch (COP 232)
3. Bedok South Sec Sch (COP 215)
4. Bedok View Sec Sch (COP 219)
5. St Patricks Sch (COP 224)
6. Geylang Methodist Sch (COP 220)
Should we be considering Tanjong Katong (TKSS) ? In the KSP forum there were some saying that the COP for may come down a little but DS score of 230 is below TKSS by 9 points, is it too much ?
We are away from Temasek by 2 points and we place it 2nd choice, will we be loosing the chance to enter ?
Even though St Patricks COP is higher than both Bedok South & Bedok View, we are not placing it at 3rd place as there are some good reviews about Bedok South and Bedok View in this forum as so we place Bedok South & Bedok View ahead of St Patricks.
I hope that DS can gets into the 1st or 2nd choice and then we don't have to think of appeal.
Hope can hear some advices on our placing of our choices base on DS score of 230.
Thanks.
The highest score last year at Bedok South and Bedol View were 231 and if the COP comes down this yr, your DS could be at the top of the cohort in either schools with 230. You will have to ask yourself, will he feel complacent being at the top or will he continue to work hard? St Pat is not a bad choice if you live in the East and it's true that their affiliation is strong, taking in majority of their LaSalle gp of boys. You may want to move it up by a notch or two.
Good luck with your selection.

G2parents:
HMT score cannot be used when you apply to VS since it is not a SAP schoolDear all, my son got 247+2. We are considering putting VCA-IP (2012 COP 252) as the first choice followed by VS (2012 COP 246) as the 2nd choice. Does this selection option lower the chance of getting in VS if the VCA-IP not selected?
VS is not SAP School, does the +2 Merit point in HMTL give any advantage for VS selection?
Thank you so much! -

G2parents:
No. Selection is by merit. The order of your choices don't matter. If VS IP cop drops to your son's score then he will get in. If not, he will get VS (provided that the cop for this school is not higher than your son's t-score)Dear all, my son got 247+2. Perhaps they would have done well without tuitions too. My dd had scored more than 260 in psle. She is in an IP school and has no tuitions. I am quite pleased with her sec 2 results this yr.
I beg to differ. I observe that many who do very well for psle ie. 260 and above have tuition for every subject and continue to have tuition for at least 4 subjects after they are in ip programme and they usually do very well. It's often the ones who don't get tuition that don't do well. In fact, I can only think of 1 girl who doesn't have tuition, that is if she has been honest, who does well in my kid's class.Nebbermind:
Actually for ip schools, it's very important that the child was not very reliant on tuitions during pri school to achieve the qualifying score. The diff becomes somewhat telling when in sec school where the learning process is very diff from pri school.... that's according to my boy

[quote=\"Qiulei\"]Thanks for your reply. I just pray that my daughter can get into top schools like NYHS or RGS, money is not an issue.
Money was never the issue. Ability to make the rankings is. If your daughter cannot get into the top schools, it is really no big deal. She will still be able to succeed in life, perhaps even better, since she will be amongst kids of her own ability.

ChiefKiasu:
PSLE scores do not reflect ability always. A kid who got 257 may perform better academically than someone who got say 264 when they are in secondary school.Qiulei:

With 262+3, your child has a very good chance of getting into Hwa Chong. Do you have a boy or girl? Hwa Chong is a boys’ school.

Anyone has heard from VS yet?
One of my colleague's ds got a CO offer from VS today -
RE: NUS High School of Mathematics and Science (Diploma)
Looks like no interviews for most COs and ‘No offer’

Did he mention how many are attending the interview? This year seems to have more students going for the interview.
