If you really want to appeal, you will still proceed & check with the school regardless it is 256 or 255.

I also find it amused by parents comparing COP of schools & trying to justify why COP for one dropped becos of increase in enrolment, factoring HMT points etc. Those schools you all are comparing are already the top schools, is there a need to dissect & examine the COP?
They don't name this site KiasuParents for nothing yar.

Just to inform you guys, TJC cut-off point this year dropped to 249 because they decided to enlarge their enrolment from 150 students to 170 students. If not, they would have stayed competitive.

So based on this, which is better :
A school that takes in 300 with cop of 250, or one that takes in 150 @ 251?

I saw the price of all the books for Jap sec 1 is $150!!!

Is there an option not to buy all the books now cos I foresee may drop the language along the way.

      Anyone selling their old books?

Do note that the price list indicates new edition for 2 books.
Not sure how different is it from last year's copy.

For the benefit of those who may be getting used Japanese books.
As mentioned before, there are 2 books that is marked 'new edition'.
I've checked with the bookstore staff yesterday and was told only the books bought for year 2016 are the same.
All others prior to 2016 are older prints.
      Do take note.

Disclaimer : I merely share what I was told. If it turns out not to be true for the used books bought, I take no responsibility in \"sabo-ing\" yar.

Does "first come first serve" works in the appeal process?

Call MOE and just tell them need to appeal and to know the COP of that particular school.

They treat everybody the same, and will ask for the kid’s BC. COP will be given after a quick check.

Still pretty much based on the t-score.

MOE only accepts certain number of students for each language.
So if 'over subscribed', it goes by that score.
I think you may still be able to appeal for it, though, as some who got it may last minute decide not to register on the 30th.

suppose in a situation of \"over-subscribed\" in a language that you've particularly chosen,.
suppose you've chosen Japanese but because is \"over-subscribed\", so in the end, MOELC didn't allocate you Japanese, instead allocate you another language, say Spanish : would you still want to take it up, or reject ?

in this case, do you think is still better to pursue a 3rd language allocated, or give up altogether ?

Don't think any random languages will be offered, if it wasn't chosen in the first place.

We can put up to 3 choices, however, one from each category . If you are not keen to choose others, you can just put down 1 choice.. which is what we did.[/quote]Yup, that's exactly what I did for DD as well, only 1 entry.
If she don't get, then be it.
Anyway, I told my DD she still have a week to consider.
Once registered on 30th, she got to put in her best.

the language that is often \"over subscribed\" : is Japanese.

perhaps because Sg is an Asian country

      High time to introduce Korean?
