• RE: All About Taekwondo

FQW:
Going to sign ds up for Taewondo soon, at his request (his friends are doing it). A few newbie questions regarding this sport. Thanks.

Will learning martial arts make one violent?

Are they many branches of Taewondo locally?

What are the different belts and their significance?
I've learnt TKD in my secondary school days because it's compulsory. It's a Maris Stella thingy ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, I don't think learning martial arts will make one violent. If anything, it had made me more peaceful, knowing that I can defend myself and others in certain situations. Do have to be careful not to let the punching and kicking get into your head and become a 'hero'. The most useful thing that I learnt is to be confident enough to block blows and kicks, not to attack.

Regarding the different belts, they go in order:

1. White
2. Yellow
3. Green
4. Blue
5. Brown
6. Black

In between, there's also white with yellow tape or blue with brown tape etc. There's more after black belt too..dan 1, dan 2 etc..but think black is more than sufficient for now ๐Ÿ˜‰

• RE: How to remove rust on bicycle?

You can buy those 3M products that can remove kitchen stains, it works on rust also. After that coat it with either oil or some sprays (again from 3M or other such brands), depending on which part of the bicycle youโ€™re talking about.

A steel wool will work too, but be prepared to get your hands dirtyโ€ฆ
I''ve seen some students wearing a different PE Singlet. Theres two different singlet now, one is with the dark blue close to black rim, there's another one with the blue rims.

Who can wear the blue rim singlet? Why is there such a difference?

I think it's just the printing process. I've singlets that are lighter in the blue shades, while some are darker. Perhaps one reason is that after washing, the blue part fades off. I don't think that's any difference, unless the system had changed ๐Ÿ™‚

Because i've just visited the Shanghai School Uniforms at Bras Basah and there were obviously two different colour of singlets, asked the auntie there but she couldn't give me a answer.
It could be that the lower sec wears the lighter coloured ones, and the upper sec wears the darker ones.

• RE: Suggestions to improve your kids' creativity?

I agree with the lego idea! I've never know my son could build tons of different small buildings from his mind to the actual thing! Recently, he showed me his 'small little town'. IS STILL PROUD OF HIM!

And anderaaa, I've heard about p;log, cool concept that they have and something new that I've come across. Am still considering to do one, just the matter about finding time for the whole family hahaha!
I'm an adult and I still love LEGO ๐Ÿ˜‰ Recently built a lego tape dispenser because mine broke ๐Ÿ˜‰ It's really amazing because you can literally build anything out of it. These days I'm into using LEGO bricks for art work - I think that's surely one way to improve kids' creativity in a non traditional way ๐Ÿ™‚

hi

where did you purchase mindstorm?
You can check out those lego specialty stores like bricks world, one of the bigger online/physical stores in Singapore. I knew the boss, friendly ang moh guy. There's also secret chamber, located here and there. I know there's one in Parkway parade.

Simply toys and toys hunt are another few that you can find ๐Ÿ˜‰ Not cheap though, lol

• RE: Comparing Science Enrichment Programs

Love Clouds:
Do you know of any? I'm thinking of sending my DD to one so that she will not idle her time away at home (eating, playing and watching TV prog) while I'm working.

There are not many March holiday camps that I know. Many do their camps during June holidays.
Haha, these days, it's hard to find kids who are idling at home ๐Ÿ˜‰ I know of parents who packed their kids schedule to the MAX even during the holiday ๐Ÿ™‚ Well, no time to stand and stare lol

There's one March holiday camp that I know of. It's by Young Engineers who are doing science enrichment using LEGO. You can check out their website here: http://www.youngengineers.edu.sg for more details on their Mar camp. But it's almost fully booked already if you look at their site.

auntieM:
lapapillion:

Since we're at this topic of science enrichment, perhaps I can introduce Young Engineers which is located near parkway parade. They do primary school science enrichment but using LEGO models to impart science, maths and engineering principles to young children. I think it'll be great fun to be able to infuse play elements into education! ๐Ÿ™‚

Can you provide more details of this enrichment centre please.. ๐Ÿ˜„

Hi auntieM, sorry for the late reply...been busy lately ๐Ÿ˜‰

http://www.youngengineers.edu.sg/ <-- can check out the website. I think any kids will know what's LEGO - don't even need to introduce it but to learn science using toys like LEGO, now that's something interesting isn't it?

They have mar holiday camps too, but it's almost all filled up already. They are located at parkway parade there, near to MacDonalds if you know the area well. It's the building where almost every level is either a tuition or enrichment centre ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
