I’m contemplating registering at yangzheng for my daughter next year. Parents with kids there now, would u say that yz is academically competitive or more balanced and focused on character devt? I see from the website that the Chinese culture is very strong, and am worried that it is a competitive school.

For info, the chinese culture is not strong. Not really competitive. But is more of the endless remedial classes that need to attend during Pri 6 . The highest PSLE score for the school last year was 276.

Hi my child will be going to P3 next year, just wondering what is the difference between 3A, B, C, D, E, if any?

      Many thanks for any comments!
Hi, normally for Pri 3 , there will be a reshuffle of classes. In the past , C class has always been the TOP class. My girl graduated last year . For her batch, 6C was still the TOP class.

Hi, welcome to join the Yangzheng 's family.

Well, being a neighbor school, the environment is quite relaxing . So far, it is quite stress free for my girl . I don’t really monitor closely on her school work .But at times, still need to help her eg. Prepare show and tell (English n Chinese) and social study project work . But she spends more time reading story books than doing her homework.
Though the new principal came from Rosyth, I find her more down to earth than the formal p .The teachers in general are accommodating. The lower primary teachers are normally the motherly type. My girl’s Pri 1 teacher still remember me and smile n even chat with me whenever I meet her at the school events.
Though a non sap school, my girl does go for her higher Chinese lessons after normal school hour since Pri 3.
In term of academic result , very much depend on the child n not the school. Of course, also the expectation of parents. I think most parents will send their kids to enrichment classes. As indicated in the report in Strait Time, eight out of ten primary school kids will have tuition or enrichment classes. But I don’t intend to send my girl for one. I want her to enjoy her school life and childhood.
My take is that if your child is a big fish in a small pond, he or she still can make it to the top secondary schools.
Every year at the prize giving day, I see Yangzheng ex-students from RI , RGS, DHS, Nanyang, Cedar, Catholic ,NUS high came back . My hairdresser ’ s kids were from Yangzheng went to Catholic high n TKGS and then VJC.Her girl even got a MOH scholarship to study in Australia. Her boy will be studying chemical engineering after failed to get in medicine course .She told me she never spend a single cent on tuition . instead, they bought back the $$ from the edusave award, prize etc.
I hope my sharing can help the parents of the new Yangzhengnites.

      thingy:

Hello... i am also planning for Maris Stella and YZ for my son... Stay within 1KM but got rejected for PV...

Anyone can advise the chances of getting in the school? Sorry it's my first child so i am very inexperience and gan chiong...

Err... I'm not v experience too...
Just my penny thought, if is me I will choose Maris Stella coz 1) single sex & 2) surround by more landed , then chances might be higher coz no girls to compete with n less populated = less household less kid. U might wan to look into past history to analyse further. Mine just based on the 2 factors so far

In the past , those within 1 km to MS for 2c phrase need not ballot can get in to MS easily . But for this year . If those buying Bartley residence ( top 2017) can apply , then likely chance that within 1km also need to ballot .

For YZ , bec of the single session , the school has reduced the intake by almost half , intake only 180 students . In the past few years , balloting required for 1 to 2 km for phase 2C .

For me , I will go for MS , the curriculum at MS is more robust compared to YZPS . Moreover , there is affiliation to its secondary school . The school is sheltered all the way from MRT .

    • RE: All About T-Score

      Just to share:

My friend’s dd had the same average score of 87% in the prelim which is quite similar as your ds result. Using a simple 0.72 x 87 x 4 will work out to a T score of 250. This was exactly what her dd scored for PSLE this year .Her prelim result was the same as PSLE T score if used 0.72 as a rough estimate .She has tried for Cedar academic DSA. But was not even shortlisted .

      Hi,

My son scored 240. We live in Bishan.

      Thinking of

      1. Anglican High (243)
      2. ??
      3. St. Andrew's (239)
      4. Yishun Town (236)
      5. Maris Stella (236)
      6. Xinmin (235)

What other school for Option 2?
Between schools 4, 5 and 6 - r these good options n arranged in the correct order?
Do we follow the MOE booklet or the school COP eg. Maris Stella on booklet COP is 236 - 249 but school principl announced 234.

      Many thanks.
Since U stayed in bishan , may be should consider to choose Maris Stella as first choice , Anglican high with no affiliation at tanan merah area is really far . Your son will be very tired with the traveling everyday .Maris Stella Being a SAP sch affiliated to CJC offered higher Chinese which is a added advantage of bonus 2 points for JC application compared to st Andrew which traditionally is not good in Chinese . Moreover ,Maris Stella is sheltered all the way from mrt station . Very few schools have such a privilege . Must consider distance.
