Hi, welcome to join the Yangzheng 's family.
Well, being a neighbor school, the environment is quite relaxing . So far, it is quite stress free for my girl . I don’t really monitor closely on her school work .But at times, still need to help her eg. Prepare show and tell (English n Chinese) and social study project work . But she spends more time reading story books than doing her homework.
Though the new principal came from Rosyth, I find her more down to earth than the formal p .The teachers in general are accommodating. The lower primary teachers are normally the motherly type. My girl’s Pri 1 teacher still remember me and smile n even chat with me whenever I meet her at the school events.
Though a non sap school, my girl does go for her higher Chinese lessons after normal school hour since Pri 3.
In term of academic result , very much depend on the child n not the school. Of course, also the expectation of parents. I think most parents will send their kids to enrichment classes. As indicated in the report in Strait Time, eight out of ten primary school kids will have tuition or enrichment classes. But I don’t intend to send my girl for one. I want her to enjoy her school life and childhood.
My take is that if your child is a big fish in a small pond, he or she still can make it to the top secondary schools.
Every year at the prize giving day, I see Yangzheng ex-students from RI , RGS, DHS, Nanyang, Cedar, Catholic ,NUS high came back . My hairdresser ’ s kids were from Yangzheng went to Catholic high n TKGS and then VJC.Her girl even got a MOH scholarship to study in Australia. Her boy will be studying chemical engineering after failed to get in medicine course .She told me she never spend a single cent on tuition . instead, they bought back the $$ from the edusave award, prize etc.
I hope my sharing can help the parents of the new Yangzhengnites.
