Thanks Marma!

      1) Additionally, does anyone knows if DHS school bus service includes yishun? How much is it?

      2) How many people are there in a class? (senior high)

      3) Is most of the students in senior high doing CLL or CSC? Also, I have heard that almost all jae students do CLL or CSC.

      4) I am thinking of doing Chinese Language Elective Programme CLEP. Anyone can give me a clearer idea of what students in CLEP do? Is just a few more lectures to go and particpating in some literacy activities? Or is there a busy schedule whereby CLEP students have to commit to a long list of things?

      5) What time does the students need to report to school? is the timing for JH and SH the same?

6)The SIGs in DHS can be joined on a ad-hoc basis or one must be committed to it? For example, if i my cca is choir, can i still go to a SIG occasionally?
Hi Kelly,

      1) My girl takes the school bus. DHS school bus offers just 1way to school n doesn't cover Yishun. It's abt $120-130/mth fr where we stayed previously in Tampines n Sengkang currently.

      2) Every class is different in numbers. My girl's class consider big at 27. Some are small abt 15.

      5) Mon-Thur 8am/Fri 9am for both JH n SH

      Sorry not sure abt 3), 4) n 6)

Hi this is a secondary 4 students deciding if should go to DHS senior high via jae next year. Can anyone kindly tell me about the senior high culture? Can the school uniform be bought in school? I heard that there are 4 houses Drakon Kirin Homa Bennu, so can the students choose their houses?
How about the canteen food? Any special highlights?
Hi Kelly Tang,

      I'm a mother of a Y6 IP girl.
School uniform can be bought in school when you report after posting.

Students can't choose their House but there were a few students who changed class/house in her batch.

If I remember correctly, there are 16 stalls in canteen. Compared to others, 16 offers pretty gd choices n variety. One of the reasons that my girl chose DHS as 1st choice 6yrs ago was the number of stalls n food. šŸ˜„

Culture wise.. pretty vibrant n generally students are pleasant n friendly. Some of the JAE students have made many friends in just a short 1yr. Still boils down to the type of personality that one has. CCA allows one to make more friends n even find good friends.

Wish you all the best in your Os! May you get into your desired 1st choice JC! 😊

Anyone has kid or students study in DHS Jc section ? Want to know more abt the culture , support n environment.

My dd is in Y6. They mix well with JAE students. She prefers JH classroom teaching to SH lectures. Most of the time, she prob sleeps through lectures as she is so sleep deprived. She prefers to self study n refused tuition. Most of the JAE students study harder than her peers.

My Yr 5 DD said that DHS JAE for Senior High took in 120 new students instead of 80 as mentioned earlier. Most of them are doing CLL, Chinese Lit.

      Orientation tomorrow.

How many pupils are there, per new 2019 JAE class ? If 40 students per class, with 120 students, roughly ... 3 classes ?

Gancheongdaddy mentioned 100 new students to be exact.

Oh for SH.. number of students to each class can vary a lot. Some less than 15 and some up to almost 40.

Surprised to know that there are boys fr VS n SA in my DD orientation grp. Asked why they didn't join VJ, they mentioned VJ too rara for them, can't fit in their culture.
Thanks MarMa, that's very helpful.

Does your child finds it hard to cope with the syllabus? How about the school hours and time spent on Various CCA?

      Hi MaryDaisu,

My DD has no tuition n has been coping fine till she started failing Ma tis yr. She's very laid-back, happy go lucky type. I let her decide if she wants tuition. She's in triple sci + history subj combi class tis n nxt yr.

Sch hrs on most days end abt 3/4+pm. Earliest dismissal at 1.45pm. Even so she might not go hm at 1.45pm if it happens to be training days.

CCA badminton training 3hrs/session/wk, Mon 4-7pm/Wed 4-7pm/Fri 5-8pm tis yr. Training resumed right after exams at 4hrs/session/wk now. Exhausting n will miss many lessons during Jan-Apr competition season. Her average sleep time 12-1am on training days after dinner, hw or prep nxt day test.

She took a while in Y1 to adjust.. fr someone who used to sleep at 9pm in pri sch.

Thanks. Sounds like Sec sch is totally different from Pri sch. My gal also sleeps at 9-10 pm now.. I hope she can manage her time and also have the stamina to withstand such long hours.

      How about the reporting hours?

Does the sch require the student to buy their own laptop or tablet?
Hi MaryDaisu,

      Reporting hours:
      8am Mon-Thur
      9am Fri

My DD is on sch bus so she leaves hm at 6.35am. Bus comes abt 6.45am n reaches sch abt 7.40am.

Students are not required to buy laptop/tablet.
Do you all have the bus vendor contact? Do they take children from Toa Payoh/ Serangoon area?
Hi! You will get the bus vendor contact on the school letters when your child registers on 22 Dec.

They do take children fr NE like Punggol n Sengkang. Not sure abt Serangoon n TPY.

Hi, I am considering to place my son in Dunman. I understand that this is an IP school & it is very competitive. In the event if my son does not do well in IP route, can he switch to do O levels instead but remain in Dunman? At which level can he switch? Sec 2, 3 or 4?

Also, what are the dismissal timings like for sec 1 & 2?

Yes there is 'O' level class. Streaming is done at the end of year 2. Not sure if IP students in year 3 can still go to 'O' level class if he/she cannot meet IP promotion criteria at the end of the year. More likely, he/she will have to repeat year 3.

      Hi! Just to share...
There were a number of Year 3 IP kids fr my DD cohort this yr who could not meet the min GPA and were told to go 'O' level class.

Can I check how many sets of uniform and PE attire does one student normally needs?

I noticed that the students wear track shoes to Sch? What is the rule for the colour of the shoes that is allowed?
      Hi MaryDaisu,

      I bought:
      - 3 sets of uniform
      - 2 sets of PE attire
      - 1 polo tee to be worn w skirt every Fri.
