Choosing CHIJ (Kellock) based on the reason of holy-stick education & A Fat Li Tion to St Theresa Convent.

I agreed with pirahna .. I do enjoyed participating in grassroots activities and helping out the needy. We may be the fortunate group, but there are many people that requires our help, and the grassroots is a good platform that brings the people closer and close up the gap.

And in addition, you can also set a good example to your children and let them understand the spirit of sharing. For once my elder son (6 yrs old then) told the younger one .. \"Don't disturb Daddy, he is going out to help people ...\" I was so touched and happy

Wow..you guys put me to shame..hmm, I must start to think more about the community I live in too..not be too self-centered..thanks for the sharing.[/quote]Great to hear that you are one step closer to helping others. The GRO are constantly looking out for sincere citizens or PRs to come forward to help our people/community. And I always think that it is fine to join the GRO with a clear objective (i.e. get into P2B) .. and you never know that you will continue serving even after you have met your aim.

      Daddy 😧
      marudine:

Sorry, I thought this thread is suppose to discuss on the experience of P1 registration, but I think it had somehow been drifted away by some of the discussions.

Anyway, I had gone through the P1 registration last year. Being a P2C applicant, it was extremely stressful and unpleasant.

Pre-registration, was worry-some and many sleepless nights
After registration, was tough and sleepless due to the balloting wait
Post-balloting, for me & spouse ... was a total breakdown (balloted OUT)

My spouse and I would never want to go through that cycle again ... it was a terrible and horrible experience.

Finally and fortunately, we still managed to get our child into the school of our choice (school that we had registered in P2C).. factual, perservere and determination shall pay off. With that, we have no more worry for our 2nd child who will be admitted into the same school as his sibling in 3 years time.

Hmmm.... balloted out... but still got into the sch later... how ah? Can share? šŸ™‚

First thing to do after being balloted out, is to put your child's name under the school's wait list. After then, I've wrote in to MOE, called/met the school's Principal for discussion. Telling them all my problems and how the registration system had affected us (because I have only 1 school within 2km and NO school within 1km). With this factual, MOE has verified and consulted the school. My son was then placed on the highest priority in the waiting list .. and fortunately by early Nov, we were told by the school to transfer and register our son to the school of our choice as there was a withdrawal from the school.

It was really a close shave, but my family was very happy thereafter.

In a nutshell, parents should not take PV as Kiasu or chore, or too likely. The effect of being asked to ballot or being balloted out, is extremely stressful and terrifying. PV or Grassroots is the only revenue (other than clans/churches) to give your kid(s) an early adidtional chance to enrol into the school of your choice. With my story, I have in fact motivated some of my friends and colleagues to take up PVs/GRLs .. and some have already started their volunteering works ... šŸ™‚

In the committee I am in , I have to organise activities for the residents to participate. Really enjoy grassroots work. I treat it as giving back to society.

      puzzle:
      Hi,

i hv not receive the letter yet!

btw, can someone advise me as:
we are required to submit the letter at point of registration ie 1st choice of school.

Are we allow to take it back and withdraw from the registration and to move on to 2nd choice if we see the chances of getting our 1st choice is slim ?

      Pls advise.
Not too sure about this. But if both the schools are within the GRC you have served, it should be ok. However, if the letter explicitly stated the specific school that you intend to register your child under Phase 2B, then it may not be possible.

If you have been appointed as a EM, you will receive an official letter from PA stating your effective start date.

Next, for the PA website, you are able to see your Grassroots Information under \"User Profile\" tab on
      http://app.grassrootsconnect.org.sg/home.asp

Associate member is what huh? I am planning to send my boy to Rosyth 3 years down the road...but I am staying at sengkang now. I can only sell my flat and move to serangoon 2 years later.

If I'm not wrong, Associate Member may not get you to 2B. Minimally you need to be an EM.

EM is not a default even if you have helped in the RC as observer. You need to be active in the RC and recognised by the RC Chairman. In addition, you will also need to ensure that there is an EM vacancy in the RC.

Lastly, you will then officially apply to PA (filling up a form) with the support of the RC Chiarman, and endorsed by the Advisor. Once it is approved (it may take up to 2-3 months), you will be notified with an official letter stating your appointment and the effective start date.

    • RE: 2010 P1 Registration Exercise for 2011 In-Take

      KSP:
I'm just curious to find out if one can register in 2A at school A and later register in 2B/2C at school B. However, school B is so popular that it requires balloting in 2B/2C. So can the parents still go for the balloating in 2B/2C without having to withdraw from school A first becasue they do not know for sure whether they are sucessfully in the balloting yet. Can the parents withdraw the place they got from 2A after they got a place in 2B/2C?

In any phase of the exercise, you can only have ONE school per child's name on the registration system. It will be very unfair for the rest if you hold on to school A while trying to register in school B in subsequent phases.

Though the birth rate can be low, but you may need to check out the school's intake figure for next year.

That's right! That was my first :? in my last post.

Yes, I think is always good to find out early so that you can strategize your P1 registration approach.

It was a real bad experience when you think everything is ok, and then double hit for being balloted out. I have to admit that I did not do my homework well, and ended up in that situation.
