• RE: Historical COP for Sec 1 Posting Exercise

Hi!

Can I check if we’ll get to know the different schools’ COP before we decide on our 6 choices? Or we do just rely on the 2019 intake’s COP?

My child has been offered DSA in a 2nd-tier sch but is hoping to get into one of the independent schs instead.

TIA!

When will the prelims 2019 be available? Any updates from Jeremy?
Hi! Jeremy is rather slow in responding. I went to my trusty Bras Brasah supplier called Book Point this evening and bought all the subjects.

It is definitely possible. The child needs to have a scientific brain ie a scientific way of thinking the logical reasons and explaining them out in words (those very specific keywords that the syllabus uses and needs them to throw back at the script marker).

If you look at the whole Science syllabus, there is a summary diagram/flowchart at the back of every book. It shows you the entire map of what the science syllabus wants the kids to know. Very logical and simple. Just stick to those keywords and concepts, you won’t go wrong.

Science graduate here. Maybe that’s why I can see it all at one glance. So can my kid when I draw out the chart for him.
Hi Zac's mum
Thanks for the idea. I did not see this earlier seems like my notification is not working... or i have missed it.

The problem is my child's brain still not very scientific I feel, sometimes she writes answers like English subject answers, if you know what i mean. May i know where is your reference for keywords? From the textbook ? Also above the map at the back of the book, there are also keywords . Is this enough? Tks!
Hi my son’s school is using the My Pals Are Here Science textbooks. At the back of these textbooks there is a “Bird’s eye view” summary chart. I find this extremely useful. Just use the same keywords used in the chart and sure can score full marks.

I have looked at all the so-called PSLE Science revision/assessment books/Primary Science encyclopedia whatnot available in Popular. IMO they are all red herrings. Don’t waste your money or time on them because they distract you from the only facts and keywords u need to memorize & throw back to the examiner. They may be useful to read thru for general knowledge, but they do not summarize the topics clearly enough for PSLE/school exams.

Below is an example chart from the Systems textbook. It summarizes the key words u need to know about the Human Body. As far as I have observed, school exam questions on this topic can all be answered by referring back to this. Straightforward & simple.
https://postimg.cc/FYSFX9Fc
Hi Zac's mum,
Thank you for the recommendation! My DS & I don't find the sch's Science textbook entirely useful although the back of the book also has the summary charts similar to what you posted. Off-hand I can't remember the exact name of that textbook but it's also one published by Marshall Cavendish.
I shall head to Popular to find the Sci textbook you recommended 🙂

@ marzipan CCA is only once a week, tho end 4-5pm. I don’t deny my kids fr their CCAs if they enjoy as it’s good for their devpt, besides academic input. P6 can get very stressful towards May-Jul & peak ard Aug/Sept. So I’m slways careful to give them balance.

If u feel tt yr child needs the extra brush up for CL, then I suggest u request formally to exempt yr child early. Language needs time to learn, kids need time to adjust to new environment & new tutor before they can start performing.
Thanks Estéema! I'll consider sending in a formal request. But I'm also afraid it'll affect his DSA chances if I do that. Sigh...
As it is, the sch isn't doing much for them. There will only be supp classes in the last wk of June for 3 days and even then for some subjects, only the weaker ones need to turn up. The \"sandwiched\" class will be left to survive on their own.
That's one of the reasons why I felt standing down in Aug is a little too late for those whose parents prefer to send their kids to attend additional classes outside of sch simply cos the sch isn't doing much for the final push.

Hi all,

Can I check when is the CCA stand downfor your child's sch? I'm a bit concerned that my child's CCA stand down is not till Aug. I'd like to know what are some of the stand down dates. I don't need to know the sch's name but I just want to have a feel of the dates so as to better support my letter to the sch to appeal for an earlier stand down.

TIA!

For p6, usually cca will stand down, before p6 sa1, in may 2019 commence, because after sa1 over by may 3rd week, exam scripts will be returned to students to review, before June holiday start.

Then immediately after June holiday over, once term 3 start in July, towards end of July or early August : prelim (p6 sa2) will start.

by the way, psle oral for English and Chinese will start around middle of August, these oral dates will coincide / overlap into our school's prelim exam time table, for some schools. Maybe you check whether yours coincide into your prelim, because my school psle oral does coincide or overlap into the same exam week. By now, school's Prelim dates (not just sa1 dates out only), should be out.

Now already into 2nd week of april. 3 more weeks from today, same week as 1 may Labour day week : p6 sa1 (mid year) starting.
Jialut, everyday so much homework to do, to clear at home, do until late at night, sleep late 11+ pm, find it very hard to squeeze in time for psle revision. Anyone, encounter similar situation ?

Thanks for the reply phtthp!
I've just double-checked the time-table. CCA stand down is on Aug 2 while the prelims will start on Aug 20. And then of course the PSLE oral will be in between on 15 & 16 Aug. I feel the sch is cutting in too close cos I would really like to start my DS on extra Chinese tuition which for now can only fit in on Friday which is his CCA day. I was hoping to start in end-Apr when I previously thought CCAs will all end after the sch Nationals. But I was so wrong :(((
His sch is pretty chill. Not much homework and even if there is, it's not so much that he has to stay up late. I'm definitely not depending on the sch to prepare him for his PSLE. I'm going to have to put in a lot of effort (and also the tutors!) to help him thru PSLE.
