• RE: Q&A - PSLE Math

HoSayLiao:
Can someone help with this question?

Ali has $300. He lost 1/3 of it and ends up with $200. To have the $300 again, he needs to win $100 which is ½ of the $200. 1/3 is known as the Losing Fraction (LF) and ½ is known as the Winning Fraction (WF). ½ times 1/3 = 1/6. 1/6 is the product of the LF and WF, known as the PLW. Find the LF and the WF if the PLW is 81/400.

Hi HoSayLiao, in my diagram below, the shaded parts represent the amount lost. Hope my solution makes sense.

Hifive:
Hi

Need help with this question:

A motorist sets off from Town A for Town B.
If he travels at 60km/hr, he will reach Town B at 9.30am.
If he travels at 80km/hr, he will reach Town B at 8.45am
How far apart is Town A and Town B ?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Hifive,

Another way of solving this question is to make use of ratios.
The ratio of first speed to second speed is 3:4.
As the distance remains constant, time taken, which is inversly proportional to speed, will return a ratio of 4:3.
The difference in time taken is 45min.
4 parts - 3 parts = 1 part.
Hence, time taken when the speed is 60 km/h is 4 (parts)X 45 min = 3 h. Therefore, the distance is 3 X 60 = 180 km.

Hi,

I just saw this question because I have been absent for a long time. I think this is a trick question - note that they are only asking for the perimeter, and not the area. Therefore, one only needs to add up the perimeters of the two sectors:

Perimeter of the shaded area
= 1/4 X 2 X pi X 4 + 8 + 1/2 X 2 X pi X 3 + 6

hi all, I have been reading this thread for the last 20 minutes. Question?

What are DS, DS1, DS3...etc? I actually looking out for DS4, cus my daughter, reading alongside with me is thinking: \"Nintendo DS or Daughter School.\"

:?
Hi Polyglotmum
This reply is so belated I think you have either lost interest or you have got the answer by now. DS refers to son, as far as I know, and I guess the D stands for Dear.

Hi jslow

Don't worry, I'm older. My eldest was born in 1989 and he went to Fengshan. Hi everybody, I have been very busy so I have not been able to come on this forum until now. Hope everything is going well with you.

jslow:
I'm from Fengshan too! Graduated in 1988. So old liao! I also remember Ms Ho, stern looking, thick makeup and strong perfume. But otherwise seems nice. Also remember my ex P6 teacher Ms Siti. One of the ex tr that used to be ex-Rosyth 's principal. I miss the big big field and the canteen food.

  Old students are welcomed to the network too? hehe

Sometimes I feel like popping into the school to see if I can still spot any familiar faces among the teachers...do you think the guard would let me in?

During my school days, Feng Shan was often compared with Ping Yi, which were then side by side before renovation. I still remember one of my teachers called Mrs Ho..er, though I cannot remember the full name.
Hi KingRascal

Welcome to the Fengshan P Networking Forum. School just started and busy helping the P1s settle in. Wish holidays were longer. Happy New Year, Kiasimom, I have yet to speak to the other PVs. Will get round to it.

Hihi
I was formerly from Fengshan Pri Sch too!
graduated in 1997. anyone here my batch.
My No 1 who is in P1 this year, is currently studying in Red Swastika (Papa's sch), just across Fengshan.
Hi Constancet looks like you and KingRascal have positive feelings for the school. Welcome !

Hi Kiasimom
My son starts English and Maths supplementary lessons next Tuesday. Wonder why there is a need. Children and teachers are really pressurized nowadays.

CrazyDad:

This is band 2 school, but compare to other school this school is more caring towards students.
My DD in Sec 3, AHS, told me this morning that the school took their pictures to make ic photos ( for the younger parents out there, this is the year they make ic, and they have to go to ICS on their own when their 15th birthday arrives, unlike my time). I think this is very nice, because her gor gors' schools did not do that. She said money has been collected for that, but has no idea how much because it has been lumped together with other expenses. Actually, I can't even remember them collecting money. Even if the school does make a profit from it to fund its indoor stadium, I think it is a good idea as it benefits both students and school.

Yes, the impression I had of her is also good, though I remember she was fierce. However I was rather discipline then (hehe...) so I don't think I gave her much problems.

In fact the incident that left me the greatest impression...made me feel touch...even until now. I had a couple of pimples popping on my face once, and she talked to me very motherly, advising me to take good care of my face!! You know, her tone was so kind that I really felt touched! Could still remember now...
Ya, sounds like her. Once, she asked my DS1 why he didn't turn up for swimming. He told her it was too cold for him that day. She told him to eat more and fatten up.

Yes, the Mrs Ho I know is tall...and has full makeup and thick black eye lashes...does that fit the description? She really left a great impression on me...

Ya, I guess most of the teachers are the younger ones already...cos I am also not young anymore    :stupid: :stupid:
Ya, I think that should be the same Mrs Ho . I think she is actually quite nice. Once I met her in the neighbourhood. At that time, my DS1 was still in Fengshan. She asked me where he was. I said playing with some cat and she actually smiled!
