We signed up maths tuition from day 1. This is the weaker subject for my kid. the group tuition started with 2-3 kids, by term 2-3, it grew to >10 kids …
Secondary school higher chinese is difficult as well… so kids weaker in the subject , and used to tuition, should not assume they can suddenly cope on their own.

RE: 2016 PSLE Discussions (Born in 2004)
My kid finds secondary 1 higher chinese really difficult. The comprehension passage is much longer, the questions are less straight forward. For those weaker in chinese, but intend to take higher chinese in secondary school, maybe read more books - chinese books , during this holiday.

RE: 2019 PSLE Discussions and Strategies (Children born in 2007)
I think don’t frighten parents here… No kid got kick out as far as we know. you get appointment with principal , even kids got that, its not about kicking anyone out…
If your kid can make it, don’t be afraid to try this gep route… -
RE: River Valley High School [*IP]
Free loaders are everywhere… You find them in office, of course you will find them in school.
More alarming is kids on their ipad instead of paying attention in class… It seems to be happening in many schools. envy this kids? our time, class time was really nothing else but pay attention or stare into space. No "leisure" activities during lesson time… -
RE: Any Updates As To When PSLE T-Scores Will Be Scrapped?
I came from the 1980s when the top scorer in class scored 421 in PSLE. He went to Chinese High. Many top scorers went to River Valley as well because it was the nearesr SAP school. Nobody really hard up and die die must go RI. Because if you do well in O level, you get to reshuffle to the top JC still. There were more top schools then! And yes St Nick was better than NY then…
So it is perhaps really the IP system that is creating all those stress at p6 level? -
RE: Any Updates As To When PSLE T-Scores Will Be Scrapped?
My opinion is Life Is Not Fair. Some are born with more brain, others with more ball sense. I told my kid hardwork never guarantee you get what you want. Because every boy thinks he works the hardest and he should get what he wants. But there is a limited supply of "RI"…
I am inclined to think with more top kids "spilling" out to other schools, we will be better off creating more "top" schools.
Alternativley, perhaps scrapping IP system is another way to create a spread of top kids to other schools… And reduce the pressure at p6. This means back to the days when Hwa Chong , NJ etc was a good mix of kids from many schools including VIctoria, RGS, MGS, RV, Assumption, Tanglin secondary etc… -
RE: Compare RGS vs NYGH
Hi there. I don’t think NY and RG should be compare like this. If multi racial is more important to you, consider RG. If bicultural, chinese values is more important, consider NY. If indifferent, go by what are your strengths and weaknesses and see which school provide an environemnt that would allow you to reach your dream… The two schools were never the same and will never be the same in the future, they each have their own strenghts, fans and supporters.

RE: 2016 PSLE Discussions (Born in 2004)
Many clasamates , including my kid, used correction tape in their psle.
If your kid is used to correction tape, I think better let them continue with their "correction tape" habit for now.
Imagine your classmate composition nicely done with correction tape vs your composition with cancellations, small or big ones, every other lines? Which will make a more pleasurable read? -
RE: DSA 2016
RV have bicultural programme, similar programme as NY and HCI in upper secondary and JC. Found this out at their open house last year. If you are really keen on a school, you really should visit their open house and talk to teachers and kids there.

RE: DSA 2016
I find NJ has rather fair DSA process. NJ didn’t ask for school result, mainstream or not… "Because school A and school B are not comparable … " I think the teacher said that in open house. All kids took the same test for the first round. If you really want a DSA experience, try NJ… you have a chance to sit for tests with hundreds of other kids from other schools.
