hey there , first of all find out if your daughter is really having problems in school? Did she ever receive complains from teachers in K2? For me if my gal is having prob in school, i would rather the teacher tell me the truth then to tell me good things to cover up that things are bad.

If possible you should be the one guiding her and not thinking that student care is better for her. you can start by helping her to remember things. Get her to write down things that she need to hand up . can’t really blame the teacher for not spending enough time with your kid as she has 20-30 other kids to handle. hope this helps ( i am not a parent from this school but just happen to see this)[/quote]

      Hey, Blissedsher

Thanks for the feedback, but I guess you have missed few key points here.

      1) I have no problem in getting complaints from teacher, in fact, I take it positive too and not to be over-protecting my DD. But, when complaints make the 100% of the discussion, I am confused that my DD was guided by a teacher or grumbler. Finding problems is easy, getting a solution is hard, where teacher’s professionalism and patience contribute significantly. Again, I am not saying parent shall wash their hands. Otherwise, why am I here asking for help? The intention and capability to guide me for a solution is much more appreciated.

      2) I am not blaming my DD’s teacher, but I demand more constructive and effective way to help child to be better. I did try few ways to help her to remember what she ought to accomplish. Situation gets slightly better, however problems will re-occur. If the teacher focus too much on problems, there will less room for encouragement, which is very important to help kids to build their characters. I only remember my DD brought back some little toys as reward for some good behaviour. But is that all teacher or school can do? How about a certificate to re-recognize good performance or taking on extra duty (subject leader or something)? I used to remember the happy face when my DD got a medal from her K2 sport competition. That is the smile which makes kids better practically. Again, teaching shall not, and can not be only about complaining. It is inspiring, which I did not observe that much from what the school and teacher is doing so far.

      3) Yes, there are around 30 kids in the class. But this applies the same to most of the primary school teachers. If this becomes one of the reason for being inpatient, I will not only be concerned. Frankly speaking, I do not feel this can be considered as the reason, though I agree it is not easy to handle 30 kids. Again, we are counting on teacher’s professionalism, experience and passion.

      To all the rest parents

I hope the above further explains my concern and intention for this thread. Look forward to advices from those experienced parent who has overcome similar issues.

      Really appreciate it.

      A concerned parent.

      Thank you

      Dear all

I really need some help here. I am a parent of a P1 student at PLMGS. Based on my observation, I have to express my concerns here and hope to get some advise and help from the experienced parents here.

      1) Communications between teacher and parent: based on the past half year, I feel more lost about how my daughter is doing at school. So far, I have met her formal teacher 3 times. 2 times are during the parent meeting (first time is group, 2nd time is one to one), 1 time is by appointment that the teacher wants to see me to give some feedback about my girls at school during Mar this year. Honestly speaking, among the 3 meetings, I do not hear much encouraging word from the teacher, it is almost all about complaints of my girl for not being able to concentrate in her work and tends to forget things very often.
I have to admit the fact that my girl does not develop a good habit in fully concentrating on her task and tends to forget about submitting home work. However, how I wish to express my feeling to the teacher: I did try all I can to help her build a better habit and attitude in terms of studying, reading and other things. But after all, the formal teacher spends more time with my daughter. A teacher’s mission is to groom every child under her care to be a better person, that is where the teachers experience, knowledge and more importantly, experience come in. If the teacher can only complain to parent on what the child is doing badly without help parents to find ways to help child to grow, I am really confused if the teacher is suitable for my daughter. Teacher is not only about teaching, but also inspiring and educating. I am now very confused and a little in-confident with the way she was taught at school. It is sad that my daughter did not meet a suitable teacher in P1. I guess that is part of the life where we do not have choice some time. But I do feel concerned how my daughter turns out to be if she can not be led in a better way. I am not saying the teacher is incapable, but she seems does not have much patient with certain type of child. My daughter is unfortunately one of them.
I heard there will be a change in teacher when they move from P1 to P2, I would like to check if this is true.

      2) I may need to look for a good after school care near PLMGS or Hougang area. Any good recommendation? I hope she can be better disciplined at the care center, of course, I will also help to her to develop good habit when she back home. I do believe parent should not leave everything to school, but she spends more time at school than with me.

Thank you all for your advise. Once again, I would like to stress that I am just a confusing parent on how to better groom my child for better future. Hence, I am concerned in the way her teacher teach and the school communicate with parent.

      A concerned parent.

      Dear all

May I check more information about CCA in PLMGS?

From the website, it looks Choir, table tennis and badminton doing fairly well. Any insight to share?

      Thank you.

Felicia09, thank you for the message. Yeah, I am aware that I need to be mindful to decided if I can put a bet on northland. Frankly speaking, I do hear mix comments regarding northland.

I have managed to talk to someone know pei ying. I am a bit concerned with two things:

      1) Acadamic: especially on the Chinese as they do not provide higher level Chinese.

      2) Environment: I have been to the school myself. The environment is not really that great. But I am not sure how it will turn out after its upgrading work, starting in 2014, right?

I will be facing the same problem as what you had next year. If northland turns me down, I will get my girls to Pei Ying. Have you considered navel base? If not, why? Tks.

      Hi, Shintutor

How do you feel the quality of the students at NBPS? especially their manners and attitude? I heard stories that some of school students do not carry a good attitude outside of the school, of course that may not represent all. I am just a bit concerned as I find NBPS did not achieve award on character development in 2011 based on website of MOE.

Can you help to enlightern me on this?

      Thank you.
