A NEWBIE here started some negative comments about HCI and a few
have been rattling on & on about the stress level etc etc of HCI.
But it’s really UNCLEAR how many here whose children actually belong to HCI! There are other very good comments about the schools too ( These I’ve got good feedback from 3 other neighbours’ sons).
OTHER IP schools too have their share of stress , arrogant students, low EQs and disrespect of school teachers , ‘O’ level track etc etc ( trust me , first hand info from some Trs & students there) . But must we totally discredit the schools? In fact there might be just a few parents or students who feel that way( ie being negative) due to some reasons. It most probably does not represent the whole lot of pupils studying in these schools.
So to be fair to these schools, I hope parents who are considering IP schools like HCI , please do not be affected by just a few comments here and be discerning.
And regarding stress … IP students all over are feeling it … HCI is not alone.

RE: Nanyang Girls' High School [*IP]
LynnMummy:
The teachers were caring enough to stay back for the weaker students to give extra help but why they didn't bother to turn up? If these weaker students' parents are aware , then it is hoped that they appreciate the teachers' efforts and encourage their children to attend. Most times, students must work with their teachers too.My DD is currently in NYGH sec 2. On the whole the teachers r caring and nurturing. She is in HMP class, with abt half DSA students. There r some with really bad attitude that give teachers a lot of problems. The pace is quite fast, but if the student is discipline n does her part on a regular basis, she shld be able to catch up. The school hv remedial class for weaker students, yet there r some who don't even bother to go.
Indeed some teachers r biased and favour gd student. My girl was targeted by her LA teacher last yr, but no choice lor. I just tell her to focus on the subject rather than the teacher. This is the true fact in life, she just has to learnt to face it, as in the workplace, some bosses also favor some workers.
Nothing is fair in this world.
Realistically, IP schools are fast- paced because majority of students are eager and have lots of initiatives to discover knowledge and ask questions for deeper learning. Those with attitude problems will certainly lose out in time to come and they can't really blame the school. Remember that they have a choice in which sec they wanted to enter! -
RE: Nanyang Girls' High School [*IP]
There were one or two parents here who had posted one or two unpleasant incidents in class experienced by either their own dds or friend's dds.
Allow me to express my personal take on this:
1. Those incidents need to be verified or clarified with the school's teacher or P/VP. I think it certainly does not help the situation of the student(s) in posting here in the forum. And by the way, no school, no matter how reputable it is , can be a perfect school to please every child or parent.
2. My dd is at NYGH and she feels NYGH is a very caring & nurturing school, just like how many many of her seniors and juniors schoolmates feel. -
RE: Compare RGS vs NYGH
Yukii:
None of what you've suggested or thought works and should not be allowed at all. Perhaps you should go to schools' website to check under DSA or COP.Hi All,
I am helping my Boss's child to get into NYGH or RGS, anybody has any idea on any ways to get into these 2 school like donation, or hire of expertise into the school or voluntary work etc to secure a place in one of these 2 schools beside having the exam set by the schools?

RE: All Parents of 2009 PSLE kid: Preparing from Sec2 Streaming
My girl is sec 2 comes 2011. Though she is good in all subjects, I just said ‘Go for it, gal!’ when she talked of taking humanities combi in Sec3. I think interests in the subjects they are studying is important for them to stay focussed in school.

RE: Sec 1 in Top Schools - Is It a Bridge Too Far?
[quote="Faun"] My friend was lamenting how frustrated her daughter had been with her class the whole year. Her math teacher for example would ask the class if they already known a certain new topic. Most of them would say yes because they have tutors who have gone some chapters ahead. The teacher would then either skip chapter or become somewhat relax and crack jokes with the class. ]
If this is so…then it’s really sad. Then how did your child cope and fare in her end of year exams this year? Or you have a tuition teacher for her already? -
RE: Dunman High vs River Valley High
sall:
I feel sad that people have low opinion of RV. My daughter is eligible for RGS or NYGHS, but we chose RV instead. Everyone who asked for her score n her choice of sch was shocked that I chose RV. They felt that she should choose an elite sch since she is sure to get a place there. Dunman high has higher COP, so in general, people feel that it is better than RV.

Hi, I can assure you that you or your child has certainly made a right choice. Not sure about DHS but based on mine and my friends, RV is a good school to be in
