Hello, I am new to here. My DD has received a confirmed (CO) for dance domain.

My DD has been dancing for many years and she is very passion about it. At first we thought it is quite easy to get into SOTA but when several of her friends (very strong dancers also) received rejection, we realized we were wrong in our perception. I am guessing the selection criteria include dance passion, academic capability and TA/audition performance. My DD did had a lot of fun in the TA audition/interview and we were glad to be offered a CO. Hope these give some insight to future DSA applicants.

There are 2 main reasons that we will take up the offer
      1. She wants to be a better dancer and we know that SOTA will be able to nurture her further. Note that DD is also a competitive dancer in an external dance school.
      2. The 6 years IB Program which lead to a diploma cert. My DS is currently in another IB school (Year 5) and I really like the many other skills (beside the extensive knowledges) that he has acquired at this young age thru this program. You can read this recent article )https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/parenting-education/ib-diploma-and-a-levels-how-the-two-routes-differ-0

I will be happy to hear from any SOTA students/parents their experience so far.
It has been almost 10 months since my DD got into SOTA Dance form. I must said it was really the best decision that that she had made for herself. She really enjoy it everyday, especially been around with friends of similar interest. We have heard of people hating to dance after joining SOTA but this is not true at all. She used to dislike ballet (prefer jazz, hiphop etc) but now she really love it. She told me her teachers are great and her techniques has also improved. They dance 4 times per weeks and end about 4-6 pm. It was tiring and there are 8 subjects to manage as well. But still, she looks forward to going school and have fun.

Nevertheless, we do hear girls transfer out because they feel it is not suitable for them. So I want to advise girls who like to take up the offer must make sure you are passionate about dancing.

As a parent, I feel SOTA is really a cool school. Beside its modern school structure, students get to wear any shoes, sweater/hoodies, any hairstlye etc. The school environment has so much vibe and it make me feel like my DD is in tertiary education already:)

My DS is in the 5th year of SJI IB and it is really the best decision we have made. DS’s T-score qualified him for many IP schools but we chose SJI because it is nearer to our house. At the initial year, I had seen him struggled a lot in the IB program to finally scoring 44 out of 45 IB points last year. What impressed me the most is how the IB program has prepare the today’s youth for tomorrow’s job. It was such a blessing for me as a parent to see my DS grown to a mature and fine gentleman. My DD will be entering SOTA next year, another IB program which I think she will greatly benefit as well.
