    • RE: Is there a long term demand for accountancy grads?

What’s the difference between the accountancy courses offered by NUS, NTU, SMU ?

For NUS it’s together with a business administration degree right ?

      Same for NTU ?

For accountancy alone which of the 3 schools is the best ?

Can I ask is the half uniform the most commonly worn attire for the JC ?

If so, just 2 sets as recommended may not be enough right ?

What should be the ideal sets ?

      3 or 4 ?

My son will be going to EJC tomorrow under JAE

Hopefully he will enjoy the 2 years there

Welcome! Your son will find that the IP students are very affable and friendly. As a parent, you may want to follow Eunoia JC Instgram site. Here is the latest post welcoming the JAEstudents.

\"To our newest Eunoians, welcome to the fam! We’ll see you at our Mount Sinai home tomorrow, 7.50am. Our student leaders will be at Buona Vista to give you a rousing morning reception if you’re coming by public transport . More reporting and orientation details can be found on our website: http://eunoiajc.moe.edu.sg/welcome-2018/

We can’t wait to meet you!\"

      Thanks.

Think he took the MRT to Buona Vista this morning even though there are buses from our place that stop at Ghim Moh which may be more convenient.

For those merged JCs like Anderson, Meridian, wondering how they going to teach the A-level students ?

      eg

Since Anderson merged with Serangoon cohort : for Science stream, are they going to teach at the original faster pace of Anderson, or at a slightly slower pace now, after merging ?

What kind of teaching pace, are they going to pitch at ?

(the same question apply to Meridian / Tampines merge)

IMHO, the 3-point gap is not that big to warrant any changes. The JAE bonus points are already contributing up to 4-pt difference between students within the same JC. Who knows, the teachers in MJC & TPJC might have been giving lessons of similar standard to their pupils in the past and hence the merging is not going to affect much. However, it's the ability of the majority students to handle the actual A level exam that will make a difference to the JC's performance.
On the other hand, EJC teachers might have a greater headache on how to strike a balance in teaching the IPs and the JAEs.
      Their gap seems even bigger.

Potential gap between JAE and IP students can happen in all JCs with IP like RI, HCI, VJC, NJC, TJC, EJC, SJI, ACSI

Can we safetly declare that NYJC is officially Singapore top 4 jc based on COP by beating NJC in 2 consecutive years? I think we must give them credit for that, an impressive rise n improvement beating many traditional long history established jc or IPJC. They don't hv the IP feeder school but manage to rise to the among the top, kudos to them.

I guess you can say that by COP but does that tells you anything about its performance vs NJC ?

      1. As somebody have pointed out here, COP is an indication of popularity, not A level performance. Popularity can be a result of many factors. The was a post in the NYJC thread by somebody who indicated that the son likes NYJC because of its football field....Please also don't forget that NYJC takes in affliated students from Chung Cheng schools with 2 point advantage, so the \"real COP\" may be higher.

      2. NJC COP was affected because of the setup of EJC last year, which is close to NJC. If you notice, both ACJC and NJC dropped 2 point instead of 1 point - and they are both close to EJC ( EJC only dropped 1 point). I forsee that NJC COP will improve agin next year when EJC moves back to Bishan Park. Corresppondingly, I think we will see a improvement in EJC COP and a drop in NYJC COP since students in the Ang Mio Kio area have more choices to choose from now.

      3. NJC have always been transparent with their A level results and they always have been stellar. I can hardly find any detailed results from NYJC

      4. Even though the COP has dropped, don't forget that the IP cohort of NJC are among the top 10% of Singapore based on PSLE T score. I believe was 255 last year. I would think that the average mean quality of the cohort in NJC (majority are IP ) is still much better than NYJC ( no offence).

      5. NJC provides many programmes which only top JC are elligible to offer. This include:
      MOE Secondary and Pre-University Scholarships
      Art Elective Scholarship
      Humanities Scholarship
      Language Elective Scholarship
      MOE Pre-University Scholarship
      Bicultural Studies Programme Scholarship

For example the Humanities Scholarship Program is only available to the following top institutions:
      Raffles Institution
      Eunoia JC
      Victoria JC
      National JC
      Temasek JC
      Anglo-Chinese JC
      Hwa Chong JC

I am not sure how many such programs does NYJC has, if any at all.

      6. If you take a poll among the Singapore public that which institutions is more prestigious , what would you think?

So kudos to them have having good COP i.e popularity but it certainly does not say much otherwise

EJC will only move back to Bishan end 2019

So only the 2020 cohort onwards will be affected by the shift

Next year it's still at Ghim Moh

    • RE: Anglo-Chinese School (Independent)

      Hi need some help.

My son didn’t really study hard during year 3 or 4 so he ended up with only Lag Art with a grade 6 and Chinese grade 7 with the rest all 4s or 5s

So his options for HL subjects for the IB diploma at year 5 is limited to Lit+Lag Art, any Group 3 subjects, Computer Science.

We are thinking about Lit+lag art, Econs and Comp Science as HL with Chinese, Chem and Math as SL.

Or is it better to do lit/lag, Econs with History at HL ? My boy didn’t do history for year 3 and 4 but enjoyed IS. He would prefer history at HL over Geography .

Or better to take Business Studies at HL compared to Econs ?
