Anyone know for NYPS girl, PSLE t-score is 248 + 2 (Higher Chinese) get into NYGH?

NYGH cut off point for girl is 250 and above.

Yes. Principal already announced that affiliated COP into NYGH this year remains 250, hence 248+2 qualifies. Just remember to put it at the 1st choice.

Congrats to your dd's good result. Just a side note, you don't get to use EESIS at all if your dd choose NJC, as EESIS ($200/month) will be directly deducted from monthly school fee for independent schools. NJC monthly school fee is less than $100 I believe.

Yes you don't get to use it if you choose to go to govt IP schools. But regardless of outcome, EESIS is still offered inside child's result slip.

Hello. I have been offered a place in NYGH via DSA, and in PSLE I got a t score of 269+3, which makes it 272. Based on my t score, will I be in the lower section, the average section or the upper section in the school? Will I be able to get into the top class in the school? First of all, congrats! : ) One thing I have to mention is that sec schools like NYGH don't purely stream their students based on PSLE results. Your score looks high enough therefore you might be placed in one of the 2 GE classes (if you are not already a GE student), or in the top mainstream bilingual class. However, there are other 2 special classes for art elective and higher music program, which you might want to pursue if you are interested.

All these will change after 2 years when sec 3 classes reshuffle and students are grouped based on their major. There are top math/science class and top humanity class and/or bi-cultural classes you can pursue, provided that your results meet the criteria. No more GE classes after sec 3.

Therefore, there is no need to worry about which sec 1 class you will be in. Enjoy sec school life and try to make the best out of it

It is used to offset the school fee if your child is admitted into an independent sec school with EESIS. There is no need to apply, once your child is eligible and is enrolled in an independent school, school fee will be $200/monthly less than it should be. If your child is eligible but decide to go to a government-aided school, this EESIS does nothing for you then.

Well affiliation entrance into sec schools exists for a reason. NYGH principal has mentioned to 2013 batch that it was going to be the last year NYGH set the benchmark at 250 but since the COPs for top schools have considerably dropped in the following 2 years, the benchmark hasn't been increased YET.

and statistically do people really think students scoring 250s perform significantly worse than those 260s? (as compared with 220s vs 250s in other affiliated schools). Do people think the majority of affiliated students enter with a mere 250/251 and no one scores 260s or as high as 265+? From what I see PSLE scores do not have a definite positive correlation to students' future performances in sec schools. There are students who appealed in but consistently top the class; there are students who were good enough with EESIS offered but did not adjust well so failed in subjects :(. There are also rigorous internal streaming process so girls know that if they don't work hard, they will be asked to do O level So believe me, not every affiliated girl would grab the tail of getting into NYGH if they don't believe they can do well in such environment.

For children in non affiliated schools, if their score is 220-240 which top girls school with o-level track can they apply to? :sad:

dual track girls' schools usually have high COP for their O level track for non-affiliated students. (hence the 'privilege' for affiliation is nearly 30 marks). e.g. in 2014 SCGS O-level stands at 248 and MGS at 247

If your girl is good/interested in Chinese she can also consider St Nich at 245 (incl. HMT). Crescent girls and St Margaret are also very good O level track girls' schools.

Since affiliated students were mentioned, I have to add that this year NYPS is doing extremely well, with T-score higher than 250 at 49.6% of overall cohort, which is a historical high. (2012 with 47% > 250). Therefore there might be more affiliated girls admitted into NYGH so vacancy for non-affiliated students will be squeezed...

More NYPS affliated students doing very well, means lesser vacancies left available for outsiders, means only those with very high T-score, can enter NYGH

Having said that, I tend to agree in reality all factors seem to moderate themselves into a similar intake for affiliated girls every year. I used to compare the results of 2012 and 2013, in which the latter year produced fewer 250+ students. However, it did not free up a lot more places for non-affiliated as I imagined. So many factors were involved such as similar numbers of DSAed affiliation intake(incl. GEP, academic, sports), NYPS girls outperforming boys in that year, etc.)

Therefore I will suggest let's not get too hung up on the affiliation element Most importantly not to choose/or not choose a school because it seems easier or more difficult to get in. You might be surprised things don't always work out the way you expected.
