      hi nms1

thanks, they are very useful info. was unable to attend this open house due to limited time.....
would you know , if a student choose 3H2+1H1 instead of 4 H2, will he be at a disadvantage when applying to university? can i assume that the total point awarded will be higher for 4 H2?
There is no advantage in taking 4 H2s when it comes to the rank score for university - but it may be an advantage when it comes to the overall profile of the student and/or something to talk about at interview.

      Hi

I hope parents or current students can help me with my enquiries. Thanks in advance!

1.What is the min no of H2 subjects to take at this JC - 3 H2 subjects or 4 H2 subjects?

      2. Is there flexibility to choose what subjects we want to take for subject combination ? Or is it based on a fixed subject combination to choose fr?
We just came from the Open House. The recommendation is to take 3 H2 and 1H1. The Principal doesn't recommend taking 4 H2s unless the student really has a deep interest in the 4th subject. He feels it is better to have time to do other things outside of school work, which is also important for university entry. To take 4 H2, the guidance is raw score of 10 or better, minimum B3 for English and A1/A2 at O level for the relevant subjects.

They have 150 subject combinations, so most possibilities are covered and they said that it is very rare for a student bot to get their first choice.

    • RE: JC1 retention rates

The retention rate is a result of a few key factors - the promotion criteria the teaching and the performance of the students. That is why I’m looking for the retention rate specifically. Does Nanyang make it easier to be promoted than others or are the students performing better!

Does anyone have any reliable information on the retention rates for the various JCs? According to my sons’ tuition teacher, Nanyang JC is very low and Eunoia is very high but I don’t have any intell on any others.

Geography or History? Please share your views. Child has little interest in both and effort to put in are same for both subjects. Thank you.

If effort required for both is equal, and (lack of) interest in both is equal, then it can be really hard to choose. But then again, I think upper sec history is quite different from lower sec history, so effort and interest in upper sec history may or may not be the same for upper sec geo. Am I making sense?

Yes, Upper Sec is WW1 and WW2 history so probably more interesting to most students than the Singapore history that they cover in lower sec.

This is what I understand from my friend . Both of my kids are girls and for the local competition conducted last December crocodile which is a major national competition up for age 11-12 is only 48 girls participating which is a major competition for it . Age 7-8 I think only 29 girls competing. So if each good sec school take in 4-5 , I think the chances are quite high. That is why I am considering to let my girls enrol to this Alps Table Tennis academy . See which parent let their kids go Table Tennis and hear their feedback 🙂
I'm trying to bite my tongue but you shouldn't be enrolling your children into a sport at such a young age for the purpose of DSA. DSA is designed for those children with a particular talent not a backdoor into a school. The chances that even one yet only both of your children are talented enough to be accepted and have enough interest in a sport to play it for the whole of primary and secondary are pretty slim.

Let them do what they enjoy and see how it goes.

Does anyone know if a boy coming in not through DSA has a chance to get into the football team? My son applied but didn't even get an interview. He has been playing since K2.

Its not easy getting into TKSS football team . My son couldnt get into TKSS football team even though he has been playing football since he was 2 years old and he represented his primary school football team which won the national championship.
From what I understand, they only offer DSA trials to school team players.
The teacher in charge of football is Mr Soh.

It looks like my son is going to strike lucky. We decided to take a chance and put TKSS as his 1st choice knowing that unless there was a massive leap in COP, he would get in. He plays in a position which is not so popular so he is probably going to get into the CCA.

BTW, it's not true that they only offer DSA to school team players. A few of his club team-mates did go for trials. They came from primary schools with no football.
