Yes, I also feel that the teachers & staff are very hardworking - for one, they write so much of their own materials+lecture notes.

JH3 ptm 2018
i) LA is less Literature based in JH3+4. Skills are honed to prepare for GP, however, since O Level stream children would have picked up skills on reading poetry, JH4 will try to include them as general knowledge. LA will be streamed (within a class) in JH4. To improve on LA, it is advised to read UK+US newspapers, opinion pieces, understand teacher’s feedback. Cohort top score ~80%
ii) CL will continue till SH1, when the class will sit for it as a H1. They can only retake if they flunk.
iii) No streaming for SC in JH4. Only JH4 SC grades (minimum C+) are considered for SH subject combinations. SC cohort top scores (excluding scholars) range from ~80-84%
iv) Popular SH subject combination is SC8 (refer to school website).

Grade Point Average (GPA)
The Grade Point Average refers to the Overall Score for the year for the student, and it is calculated as a simple average of the subject scores. All subjects are given equal weightage
If a subject has only one module, the overall score for the module will also be the overall score for the subject.
If a subject has more than one module, the score for the subject will be a simple average of the overall scores of all the modules for the year.
Promotion Criteria
Students must meet the following requirements for promotion to the next academic year. All criteria must be met.
Overall score of 50.0% with
Either Pass in Language Arts AND 6 other subjects
Or Pass in 8 subjects
Students who do not meet the promotion criteria will have their results reviewed and promotion status determined on a case-by-case basis.

Jennifer:
I am not sure whether 勉强 promo to next level is the right option.
To be retained is devastating, especially for boys' self-esteem. In order to avoid consolidation, mine studied till 5am (boarding) & was very proud for aceing MA (least favourite subject) eventually, losing out only to the China scholars (who scored full marks, as usual). I find Njc teachers (mostly) very supportive of the academic, behavioural & emotional well-being of the kids, plus the kids revere them... Talk to them. -

I am bracing myself for the possibility that ah boy might not be promoted to JC2.
Talk to Mr Sham, he won't be so cruel. There was a JH2 who didn't make it too, eventually Mr Sham still promoted the child to JH3, just that the child has to do fewer subjects. Even though Njc is our (family member's) alma mater, things are very different now. Imagine writing graded 3-page reflections for most of the assignments... -

Heard that NJC has more girls than boys.
The Year Head had explained that girls are more hardworking than boys at the PSLE age... A class of 25 generally comprises of ~5boys. -

What The:
Are interviews mainly done in groups? or they do 1 to 1 interviews?
Different schools different. Some schools in group, Others 1 to 1.
May I know NJC interview is by group or 1 to 1? Thanks!
My dcs time was academic DSA only - 1-1, chit-chat (which other schools are you applying to, will you choose NJ if you're given a CO, hobbies, why do you want to come to NJ... ) with 2 teachers & the VP, lasting ~20min. -
RE: National Junior College (Junior High)
Hi skcmummy, JH1s are allocated classes regardless of mode of entry (DSA/T-score), grades, GEP/MS. However, we do notice that children from the same school would be allocated different classes & the number of boys would also tend to be evenly distributed throughout. Classes tend to remain the same in JH2, but with internal banding of MA. Nonetheless, academic planning changes each year so these only serve as a general guide of things past, best to check with school after being given a CO (tea session with Principal, for instance). Good luck.

Boarding, kids write down their preferred room-mate (they’ll discuss amongst the classmates beforehand) & the teachers will review & assign. The rooms do come with a ceiling fan - but a portable fan improves the air circulation.
