I suggest you feedback to the P to ensure no misunderstanding arose from this issue.
Did you feedback to the P as suggested by starlight? Can share if any actions taken? Thanks.

pirated:Speaking from a child’s perspective, this is a negative stunt for any P to do. Being a very competitive institution, students have to work hard and put in necessary efforts to get in, regardless of environment or any additional help.If what CPM says is true, then please abolish the 1823 fund and other assistance schemes in the school. There is no such need then.Fairy:Raffles Institution now a ‘middle-class’ school, says principal, Education News & Top Stories - The Straits Times - http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/e ... -principal
I consider this a 'betrayal' by one of its own.
I believe this situation does not only exist in RI. How about ACS, HCI...?
Both my dc are Rafflesians from yr1-6 and we are not from the class that CPM refers to in his speech. Do we feel disadvantaged? Yes and No. Yes, when compared to the whole of Singapore, not particularly in RI. Admission to RI is in fact based on merit, just that children who are blessed with more resources have a leg up. This is a national issue, not school specific.
Do I feel envious, angry and disadvantaged just because most people around me are driven in cars while I take the public transport? Do I feel unjustified while others stay in private while I stay in public housing? The answer is NO. If we aspire towards Equality in resources, we may have to consider communism.
Perhaps, CPM = communist party of malaya
Or, if they need to wayang, at least do a more credible show
Dear Wei Han, from your vantage point, could you share what’s RV COP for this year?
Thanks.
FQW:Agree absolutely! How does obfuscating information help make every school a good school?
Like in the Matrix show, there's the red pill and then there's the blue pill.
Not everyone wants the blue pill.
PiggyLalala:My son just came back. Did pretty alright for the year 3 EOY exam with the exception of the chinese papers. I am glad. Will be getting geography, ss and chemistry results tomorrow. Hope it will be good too.
WeiHan:I am not just assuming that the boys belittle CL. I am stating that the whole society, in general, think that if you need to sacrifice a subject for better grade in other areas, mother tongue will be the one.onemore:
It is unfair for you to assume the Bishan JC boys are belittling CL because it is not needed in wherever they are going…moreover that would unjustly associate the problem of their bad CL standing to the students themselves alone and not the teacher’s responsibility.
many RVians too are heading to ivy league institutions and are you implying that it is therefore justifiable that CL teachers could have a laissez-faire attitude towards teaching CL to our children? Therefore it is ok for the teacher Ms TEO MUI LI to slack??
this kind of thinking is extremely detrimental to the learning of CL – especially it is still a graded subject.
I am not pushing for the schools or society to change in this aspect since it is a trend beyond my ability to change.
Clearly, I didn't use the trend as an excuse for TEO MUI Li to slack too. Why should I help her or MOE? Well...but the trend is connected to the quality of the teachers you will get. I am just stating an observation. How much effort you are willing to put into changing the trend or complain about that particular teacher also depend on how important the issue affects you.
Perhaps, the school can implement a student feedback system on the teachers which will includes questions : \"is the syllabus covered on time\", \"are assignments marked and graded?', etc...
WeiHan:It is true. RV's HC standard isn't high. Have also heard somewhere that, in general, the HC teachers isn't top notch. Not putting in heart in the teaching and marking. Some good teachers (not advertising any school) will write lenghty comments for the students' essay and that inspire much interest in the subject. But then, we cannot expect this as the teacher is over working. I can only say that that teacher has a passion for what he did.Wei Han, thanks for asking, my son is coping fine this year.onemore:[quote=\"WeiHan\"]
Do you have any idea how many were asked to leave by sec 4?
How is your son doing in RV? Didn't hear more complaint from you ever since Mr Koh left.
Since you asked, last year his HCL GPA dropped drastically from high 3 to low 2; it is really bad as he is on HCL all the way from primary and always maintain high score, never has such low score!
He was very unlucky to have a non-inspiring and absolutely slack HC teacher by the name Ms TEO MUI LI. Always slow to cover the topics compared to other classes. Lots of homework and work sheets not marked and not gone through with the class; she can keep it for a long time but then returned to the students completely unmarked.
I spoke with her during meet the teacher on those issues, she claims that she has gone through with them in class, blah blah,.., but I know it is not true, all just excuses!
no point arguing with the teacher or elevate the matter to the HOD or VP or P – BELIEVE me, would just make the matter worst for my son. No choice but to find outside help.
it’s a pathetic situation, such a famous SAP school and cannot inspire the student to do better in HCL – with such teachers, if parents do not find outside help, I think their CL standing would be shameful.
Anyway students of RVHS are very lucky this year, I was told Ms TEO MUI LI has left RVHS and moved to the top school in Bishan.![]()
Students from that school are already well known for disliking CL and with Ms TEO MUI LI being there, she would simply kill whatever remaining tiny flames in those boys for the CL!
I really pity those RI boys, whoever would be damn unlucky to get her as their HCL teacher for this year!

isn't it obvious why no O lvl class? those who could not make the cut are invited to graciously move on to other places better suited for their pace.... sad but that’s reality. .

Remember folks - all schools are GOOD schools! :skeptical: So unfortunate for those high performing principals from \"top\" schools (remember nevertheless, they of equal goodness), made to face the musical chair just so that someone up there could prove this point!starlight1968sg:Is there any O level class in RV?
yongjianrong:O level classes might be implemented in the near future, but will not affect students that are already in RV currently. (Unconfirmed)[quote=\"WeiHan\"]I know the RV's system is by retaining weaker students in yr5 or y6 rather than set up a O level class or ask to go to polytechnic.
I know one student whose result improve significantly from almost all subjects fail to a few As. That is quite worth it, better than a neither nor there A level results that don't land you a uni course of your choice.
