RE: How to transfer/appeal after JAE period? [URGENT!]
RAFFLESIAN123\" post_id=\"1915299\" time=\"1561108054\" user_id=\"176132:
It is going to be tough to transfer out. Perhaps, you may want to address the root of the problem.
Is it too late if I appeal to another JC at June/July? I have been in a JC for the first 3 months and I found out the teachers do not teach properly so I want to transfer. (My GP teacher hasn’t even started essay writing yet and it is not tested in mid year.)
If your other friends also feel the same way about the teacher, perhaps, you can talk/write to the teacher anonymously or write a letter to the HOD.
If things still do not improve, then your parents can write in to the principal.
But, please be fair to the teacher have make sure you have your facts. -
RE: Any Highly recommended A & E Maths tutor for secondary 3

Hi Aoihelp,
Hi student here! Secondary 3 and I scored a bad F9 for amath and I really want to do well but I've come to a point that I hate amath or studying in general I also have a hard time concentrating. I'm looking for either small group tuition or 1 to 1(preferably female, sorry), but I don't really want a tuition that teaches each topic like a normal lesson but more application? Like instead of formulas of Logarithms I wanna know, how does log work, how to use. (like why have a tuition that teaches that way when schools already teach in a lesson format)
To put it into an analogy I don't want a tuition that teaches me how to swim but how to not drown
Please help cause all tuition centres promise the same things and I can't find a tuition that I like :?:
ik I have very detailed criteria but if you think you can help me although it's not all that do just reply
tysm
It is really commendable that you have a positive viewpoint on learning not for examination sake.
Usually I only get 1 student every year in my school like you... haha...
My suggestion however to you is, get the basics right first , improve on your grades... if you are really keen about how mathematics works etc.. you can always google ... eg Logarithm... it is just a way of representing large or small data.. is it is as simple as that... it is just a scaling approach... it is used widely.. read more about earthquakes - richter scale... look at pH formula.. etc..
perhaps.. you just need a teacher to inspire you to let you understand how the things that you learn can be applied to real life... nowadays.. teachers are conscious of this aspect and do share when starting a topic. If you school teacher does not do it, just ask the teacher.. what are the practical applications...
Continue to have fun learning maths. -
RE: Choose between Design Technology and Arts
Can anyone advise on the following bet these 2 subjects?
1. does Design Tech class has many more boys than girls?
Ans : Really no answer… it really depends on your school profile and student choices… but generally there are more girls in Art.
2. which subject requires more time to prepare?
Ans :Both subject requires time and effort to prepare portfolio. It really depends how good you want your portfolio to be. If you aim for C6… it takes less time… A1… definitely need more time and good guidance from teacher.
3. which subject is easily to get distinction or pass?
Ans : If you child intention is just to get distinction, go to school and ask them for past 3 years history of o level distinction results for D & T and ART… generally, the trend will be consistent because it will show how committed or rigourous the teacher prepares the child for the portfolio. I have personnally experienced in one school where the D&T teachers forces all students to come back during June holidays to work on their portfolio and make them keep redoing until it meets their standard… while the ART teachers… enjoy their holiday during june and the results shows… (not that the Art teachers are lazing… it is just that the D&T teachers are more siao.,.,) -

The syllabus are definitely not exactly the same.. but most of the syllabus are aligned. You child just need to look at the questions, they will know if it is something they have learnt or not... anyway got detailed answers for you to check.
thanks for the advice! but just wondering, IGSCE or Edexcel syllabus are also tested in O-level? I heard from people saying they are totally differnetPand\" post_id=\"1904016\" time=\"1553678667\" user_id=\"137291:
If you really want to score A
1) Read every chapter..(notes given by your teacher) .. add your own notes..
2) Download syllabus from SEAB website and run through what you need to know for that particular topic
3) Try 10 year series
4) Try IGSCE or Edexcel questions.. can find in the internet
5) Try other school exam paper.. can also download.
6) at any time, if you do not know how to answer a question.. ask your teacher... ( then add the question to your notes)
If you do this.. you will do fine... ( Finally.. do a time practice.. to make sure you can manage your time) -
RE: O-Level Elementary Math
No Problem… this is one of the question that causes students to falter…
another question in the O level that confuses many is "provide your answer to a reasonable accuracy"… students often fail to understand the mathematical significance of that question beyond practical aspects… -
RE: Past-Year Secondary/O-Level/IP Exam Papers
Actually 2016 papers are not that old... as long as they are the same syllabus, then it will be good to try them too.....
If you really need more practice, below are some options in order of priority
1) ask teachers... they will give ... ( though they may not mark all)
2) do 10 year series... ( for math.. do you know there are still a lot of questions that are very similar to past years... even 5 years ago)
3) https://xtremepapers.xyz
Look for o level international paper. Got to be careful with this... some questions may not be aligned to our syllabus...
4) go to edexcel .. i like their chem/phy/e math and a math questions.... same standard as o level. -
RE: Secondary 2 Streaming
I guess question you are trying to figure out is if it is better to take D&T or Art for O level subject.
Answer: both subjects involve portfolio prep and they account for 70% of the o level grade.
So my suggested approach will be as follows
1) ask your Child, which she prefers because interests play a great deal in the grades that they will get
2) if there is really no preference, i will suggest, try and find out the Past 3 years O level results for D&T and Art. That will give you an indication of the rigour the teachers in the school put it. Generally, for those getting A consistently, it is because they ( both teachers and students) burn their june holidays … perfecting the portfolio…
Hope this helps… -
RE: Secondary School CCA
Estéema\" post_id=\"1908116\" time=\"1556438062\" user_id=\"66413:
Generally, schools do not encourage students to take up 2 CCA mainly because of the time that needs to be invested may be detrimental to their school-life harmony. Exceptions are made if the student is very good in one CCA (eg Wushu.. representing Schools or Singapore). Then the other CCA can be justified in providing exposure beyond what he is focused on.Pand\" post_id=\"1908111\" time=\"1556435877\" user_id=\"137291:
Does primary school allow a student to take up both Volleyball and wushu CCA at the same time? or can a child take up two CCA at the same time?
Generally.. good for your child to enjoy his childhood.. one CCA is considered to be a balanced approach.
Not true.
There are schools that uphold the philosophy for 2 compulsory CCAs for their students unless exempted on medical excuse. The view is for young teenagers to expand their energy in constructive CCAs for sportsmanship, leadership, etc. Engaging in constructive activities helps the young body to expand energy & channel oxygen to the brains & for healthy body building. Research hv shown that when we exercise, the oxygen carries thro our body & the endorphins released helps the brains to absorb better when learning.
Finally, my take is young ppl hv plenty of time on their hands & my mind wld be more rested knowing my kids are on school grounds for CCAs then out in Starbucks or other locations hanging ard idling their time away. It helps reduces their opportunities to be glued on screentime after sch esp those non-exams and sch holiday stretches. Just sharing MO.
This is interesting. Can help to share which school provides for compulsory 2 CCAs?
