      Hi Windie

Not becos of her.I guess I am expecting more from Pats since I am paying for a premium sch. Overall, Pats is a gd sch..just that I have a high expectation.
Hi discus! My son is on waitlist for several pre-schools for next year, and one of them is Pat's. Like you, I don't mind paying premium fees, but I sure hope they can deliver. Would you care to share with me the reasons that they did not meet up to your expectations? Would really appreciate it! You can PM me if you like.

      Thanks in advance. πŸ˜„

      buds:
Heyya sunny, how old is she... forgot lah..

Being able to write is as important as being
able to read. In our attempt to get our children
to be good at reading, don't forget thee other
stuff that matters too... ie. tracing, writing,
      speaking properly, good manners, sharing..(etc).
Thanks buds for your many valuable tips!

Would like to ask you what is the age where you would start teaching them to write (not scribbling or colouring).

My friend's son attends a kindergarten which has started getting them to write out alphabets on worksheets as they are learning the basic phonics. But he is only in N1 (3 years old). My friend has to train him to write out the letters repeatedly over dotted lines, as asked by the teachers.

My son, who is about the same age, can't even hold a pen properly. My mother told me not to force him to write if he is not ready, as this may hurt his fingers. Is that true?

Can you teach more advanced phonics and reading skills without having to learn to write first?

      Thanks in advance.

    • RE: Afternoon naps

      Thanks for all your replies.

The afternoon class is a repetition of the morning class, so no time for naps. I was told that most of the children in the class sleep early at night and wake up late (like 10am), so they don’t need afternoon nap.

I too have reservations about putting him in afternoon class, but not much choice as all the pre-schools close to my place are full in the morning!

    • Afternoon naps

Hi. Was wondering how old your children were when they stopped taking their afternoon naps. :snooze:

My boy, who is turning 3 soon, has been enrolled into a preschool afternoon session. Unfortunately, its morning sessions are full and I've been put on waiting list, so I decided to try out the school's afternoon class first. The class runs from 1 to 6pm. Which means he can't take his usual afternoon nap.

Any parents out there facing this same problem too? Are your children able to miss the afternoon nap with no problems?

    • RE: Seeds D'learning House - Discussion

Hi! Does anyone have any feedback on Seeds D Learning House at Katong Mall? Am looking for a pre-school for my 3 year-old and heard that this place has very low child to teacher ratio. Thanks in advance! πŸ˜„

Wow! The Shangri-la promotion for real? Someone told me about it but I thought the discount only applied to the birthday person.

Better tell my friend - her father-in-law is turning 91 soon and she was asking me for buffet suggestions!

    • RE: Instaling TV/DVD player in the car

Thanks for all the tips! We may need to fly to Seattle as my hubby is going there for a meeting and he has some leave to clear after that. But I'm thinking twice about bringing my child, who will be about 3 years old by then. May need to stay behind and let hubby go himself. 😒

But hearing from your experiences, maybe not so bad? I'm considering getting a portable DVD player/TV, so as to play my child's favourite shows on the flight. Hope they allow that on the plane?

I wouldn't let my child watch TV in the car. But it's different on a plane as the journey can take so long, and there are are other passengers to consider. Yes, my toddler is the type who will go around pulling laptop cables, or refusing to be strapped in his seat, or insisting to help the air stewardess push the meal trolley...

Oh alright. Give me the martinis...

Hee hee. That's right! My mother taught me this. πŸ˜„

Just to side track a little here. Anyone has tried long haul flights with young children? I think that's more tricky than long car journeys, as there is lack of privacy and freedom on the plane. Any experiences and tips to share?
