RE: Princess Elizabeth Primary
Hello All
just realised that we stayed within 2km of peps, so happy.
my ds will need to register for p1 next yr for 2015 intake…
hope by then peps will still accept all SCs living within 2km…
else, must go to fuhua which is walking distance but not our 1st choice -
RE: All About Autism
niu2009
speech delayed by 6mth - 1yr based on speech test
poor social skills eg lack social tact, space invader
impulsive, hyperactive, problem in focusing (as compared to same age group children)
poor handwriting skills
auditory hypersensitive
i dont mind most of them but nonverbal communication i find it worrying. its not easy to teach how you should react in each n every single social setting/scenario. it can be taught but it must be learned on his own eventually. how to teach him to read people or situations? he must understand before he can learn. -
RE: All About Autism
Hello All
I have a DS who is 5yo this year and is pending his ASD test in this month.
He started talking in full sentences only at 3yo, other than that no "recognisable" delays…, very affectionate, sweet, but just cannot focus well in school
However, coming to K1, the signs are more obvious, initially i thought he is having ADHD with attention deficit (non hyperactivity), but seems like not.
After going to NUH for tests, he need OT and ST for his developmental delays.
no actual diagnosis of ASD yet…TBA (very sianz)
Also got SI issues which i suspected since end of last year…auditory and proprioception both low registering (but i thought its more on sensation seeking but i’ll check with the OT again)
It’s so mild that you cant almost see it, he’s like a fully functional boy but if you look at his actions close enough, you’ll find something weird enough for us to bring him for therapy.
hope to make more friends here in ksp…gambate! -
RE: Safari House Preschool
Hi nlimm
rarely come into KSP, but i thought i gave my 2 cents worth.
fyi, my kids are not in this school yah...
i find it a very expensive school, but i think worth it.
i wanted to move my DS to the branch at IBP, so i called up, made an appointment, lugged my 1yo+ DD and my 4.5yo DS to the centre.
the place is huge, as compared to my DS current sch (PCF little wings)
the place is more structured compared to DS current school, coz maybe of the bigger space, planning is better. the kids are very happy, and the teachers prepare materials while the kids napped ( i was there at 1pm-ish)
they have outdoor area, i was being shown craft work. story books ample. teachers are young, but i was being assured that they are dedicated. even the admin lady who show me around could rattle off names of the kids in each class group, their background. she seemed very proud of the kids achievements, which is a good sign imho. didnt manage to speak to the teacher for my DS class.
my friend's DS is in n2, my DS ex classmate (aka ex PCF little wings) is in the same class, i.e. n2
i bump into her every morning coz she stays at the same blk of my DS school and she waits for the safari preschool sch bus. she seemed more outgoing after changing school, and can ask me every day \"when can xxx come to my school?\" :imanangel:
bus is ard $170, standard market rates
the curriculum, as per what the admin lady told me, is usually 6 mths ahead of the moe standards. i have to agree, coz i saw the work of the kids on walls or their book, by n2, already need to write words and all. of course their base is zoophonics, so they would know their phonics by n2 if your kid start off early.
i liked the place alot, but i didnt have enough moolah to put my son in the school. it was $500 extra a month that i cannot afford since i have to start saving for my #2 sch fees come 2013...
cant comment for the centre at Dover though, didnt went there before
good luck! -
RE: [Jurong East/Jurong West] Preschools
Hello All
Many months back I have asked about PG and CC for my DS who is now 3.5yo.
I think it’s fair that I’ll contribute back to this thread since i’ve gotten good advise from KSP-ers
from July 2010 - dec 2010, my DS attended the preN at PCF @ blk 223A JE st 24
on the whole, it was a very typical PAP school and the class mix are all your good ole neighbours. class size = big, around 15kids, 2 teachers (1 main malay teacher and 1 chinese teacher). chinese teacher not very attentive and main teacher was more firm and quick. but sometimes it’s tough to command a class size this big one some started to cry and some started to run around
jan 2011 - now; my ds attended full day cc at PCF little wings @ blk 108 je st 13, just 5 mins away from where we stay.
it took him 8 weeks to stopped crying. but it was worth it.
its a new cc, everything was new (now considered "old"), they have many corners eg dressing up, sand area, kitchen theme, books, puzzles/blocks, dancing/music room and so on.
the cc is spacious, and they have ifc too! pity too ex for my #2, else sure put her there…
my ds was the 1st enrolled child. it was a 1-1 experience for him for the first 2 months. then, slowly, more n more students trickled in. now i think we have 8 students at toddler, 3 at playgroup, and 3 whom are from k1 or k2 which is few doors away. they integrate cc services with kindy classes…
most importantly, the teachers were kind and loving. initially abit chaotic, but the 2 main teachers incharge of the toddlers group are 2 very kind young teachers. 1 from china, and 1 is a young malay lady.
when i had my #2, they made periodic checks on me to see if my ds is coping well at home to the new addition to the family; and highlight unusual behaviours during my maternity leave. i was too bz to spot it but they did - and quickly informed me. lots of hugs and kisses and assurances solved that eventually.
fyi, my ds didnt start talking before he was 3. during his short stint in pg @ blk 223A, he has good vocab range, but cannot string even a 3 word sentence. i panicked but teachers told me to hold on and wait
when he joined the current cc, he started talking…and cant stop now. now he can tell me i cannot say "oh man!" or "oh my god!" etc (because i was the one who told him not to say that you see)
they have lots of mini events in the cc, like cooking, making craft projects, etc
the good thing is - there’s no TV in the cc. P herself told me when i interviewed her. it’s airconditioned but the temp is kept high/warm. 50% of the time the aircon is being switched off.
all in all, ds loves his school. everyday my parting words to him were "happy school, ok?"
