if a student does not meet the requirement of the 5 universities in UCAS, and before the Clearing is opened, there’s another stage which is Extra. Clearing is generally when the UK students have received their results already. Would be good to approach a placement agent to discuss the options available.
Some parents want their child to go overseas even though they are accepted locally, for independent living. Also, most of the programs in UK is 3 years, unlike USA which is 4 years, and their first year in USA is general courses which interests the student. The courses in UK can be for a specific program, example Forensic Science / Biomedical Science vs Biological Science in SG.

RE: Maid steals $ everyday. What should I do?
Sorry, I meant the neighbours’ maids couldn’t see her the next day and didn’t dare to ask me, but asked the maintenance staff to ask instead.

RE: Maid steals $ everyday. What should I do?
I think it is the least of your concern how your maid reaches home. She is "rich" enough to know what to do, given she had helped herself with additional pay.
I was so disappointed with my helper that I didn’t want to pay for her excess luggage, n just let her throw it away. I had allowed her to keep the money that was in her wallet.
Yes, it was packed the bag and straight to airport! No time, to contact anyone. Told her, if she doesn’t go and board the plane, next stop is the police station. Even the neighbours’ maids didn’t dare to ask him but asked someone else to ask me.
If only your maid knows that you care and concern about her well-being, she wouldn’t have done this.
Sorry, sometimes we have to firm in things or we will go nuts thinking about this or that. -
RE: Maid steals $ everyday. What should I do?
I had sent the maid home directly, then made the police report as I did not want her to be in the house any longer. Then, wrote to MOM requested that she be blacklisted, by attaching a copy of police report.
If the police doesn’t charge the maid, employer is still responsible for the maid as long as they are in Sg. This may mean still staying in the house. -
RE: Maid steals $ everyday. What should I do?
I had the same problem, but no video evidence of stealing, just remittance slips of more than $10k, and deducting all the remittances that I was aware of, she had helped herself to my wallet or even my children’s savings as well.
1) You have the evidence, so most likely police will take her. Just have to make do without a helper. If you worry about her family, who would worry about yours?
2) Sending to agent - problem will be passed to another employer, as the agent doesn’t care. They are out to make money, with an "experienced maid". When I checked MOM website, after finding the remittance slips, the employment history was about 6months, ie passing from 1 employer to another, which meant the agent had lied about her experience.
We had made arrangement on our own without telling the agent to send her off (she wasn’t aware, until the time, we told her to pack up, kept apologizing!) then made police report with the remittance slips as evidence, and wrote to MOM requesting that she be blacklisted (attach the police report). Just didn’t want to pass a dishonest helper to another family.
I do agree with all parents’ comments. Last, your maid maybe richer than you in her home country. -
RE: GOOD and FREE A-level notes on EVERY subject
DD doing her A levels now, and her comments are "questions are different from past years". School tutors were surprised as well. Maybe it’s no longer rote learning, but more on applications.
Guess, there are more kids doing PSLE than A levels, -
RE: How much to budget for UK 3-year degree?
A few suggestions to QM :
1) to check amazon website which has good bargains. Just buy and have it delivered.
2) get some medications to bring along, eg flu, stomach cramp n etc. explain to your family GP that your daughter going overseas, and they will provide the necessary.
All the best to your daughter.
