Thank you phtthp for your very very kind words and suggestion!

Let me mull it over, on calling NJC to seek clarification. As some others have highlighted here too, NUSH is a dream school and most suitable for my son; albeit I can't deny that I was surprised too and became curious as to why NJC didn't shortlist him for an in-person trial/interview.

Every school has their limitation. If the teacher know their limitation and decided that they cannot support your child which destined for bigger pond, they would rather not to waste your time. So I rather think that your child is just too good and the teachers are kind enough to let go of him.

We also received the same, “not been shortlisted to the next phase of your application for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Aesthetics and Mathematics)”. This is after submission of personal statement.

As a future reference for parents, here’s my son’s personal statement that didn’t get him through: https://drive.google.com/file/d/13k95HK7sUs4YWo87lEUiJCLRQtTswrbf/view?usp=drivesdk
Thanks ainunnajib for your kind sharing , your son is really impressive.

Good luck in your NUSH and RI applications

She said Math was super tough even though there are only 7 qns. Its Math Olympiad kind of qns which she wasnt trained for... so i guess Math is out for her. There are like at least 120 girls in the auditorium doing the same test. Science on the other hand was conducted in the science laboratory. They were each given 2 tasks... so it was very fun for my girl doing the experiment and explaining her findings. She's leaning more towards science. So I guess for us, it was the experience that matters regardless if she gets any CO/WL from this DSA exercise. :imcool:
Thanks Jaspire! DSA route is definitely not easy as we want. Looks like if kids want to dsa math and science, Olympiad kind of training help.

For NYGH , as long as good overall academic result is good to be shortlisted for selection test. But tests are hard.

For RGS, a good portfolio and academic are equally important.

Good luck and let’s work hard for the psle

I totally agree! Haha... My girl prefers NYGH. She did went for the selection tests on 9 July in NYGH for Math and Science so now we wait for 28 July for NYGH to notify if there is any interviews. But most likely, i think she has to use her results to get into NYGH. They just have to continue to work for it.
Good luck on NYGH application ! Given your girl never do any Olympiad competition, how she find both the science and math tests in NYGH?

Yah I am referring to selection camp. For those who never show up, game over as of now but they can still apply through SIE. Good luck to your HCI selection 😉
Oh was thinking selection camp entry ticket purely based on first round result as lots of students do not participate in any Olympiad competition.

She's a prefect. But other than that, nothing else. I guess that's why she's in the back up list. 🤣
Looks like filling up the 10 rows is important criteria to be selected even for selection test :scared:

She scored AL6 for mid year. AL1 for both Math and Science and AL2 for EL and CL.
If she has no science related awards, does she has other non related awards or leadership roles?

My girl doesnt have any science olympiad. I didnt fill in anything for external awards, just used her school results. She has consistently scored AL1 for Science since P3 till now. That's all. She wanted to try and apply and hopefully get more exposure in sec sch. 😉
Ic, science is difficult to score AL1. Your girl is good 👍

From earlier sharing on RGS DSA VA , it seems academic result is important factor to be considered for selection test. Believe your girl academic result should be good given she is applying for academic domain.

Maybe what make a difference is the awards?! Guess only

Seems like RGS is keeping some as backups then. LOL... I was told the science interview is on 29th July. So till then its still a wait though i prefer a proper closure. But no worries, just curious why some get notified for interviews, some gets rejected emails (for same domains) and some like me are left hanging in limbo. Hahaha... Appreciate all the responses though!
Mind sharing your girl portfolio? We also wonder what kind of portfolio for those who got called for science and not called for science dsa

For NUSH, other than selection test, they also look through applicants performance in their primary school test and exam results (mastery of primary school syllabus in math and science), participation and achievements in math and science related competitions and programmes. They will also look at the related CCA achievements, awards, scholarships, projects and so on.
Are you referring to final CO/WL/ interviews or selection camp? For our kids who never show up during camp means game over right?
