Q Pan:
Another question, does HCI has Maths Team or Maths Club (not CCA) - that provides accelerated Maths / Math Olympiads / Maths competition? If so, what are the selection criteria? And is it available for the Year 1 boys?

      Thank you!

      There is a Socrates Club.

Thanks Q Pan, can you tell me more about this? Do they have selection, are year 1 allowed and what are the activities? Thank you!
There is a Math Olympiad Class. The selection criteria is based on the student's performance in APMOPS. Otherwise, students who do particularly well in SMO (J) are given a chance to join the class. (though that differs by the year). If your child is not in, which I assume to be so thus the question, there is no point worrying. Just make the best of what he is given.

Socrates Club is an invitational CCA for those in the Math Olympiad for them to play Math games and do random Math questions.

      Hi, all

Can I check with those having DS in sec 2 this year on how student are selected for special programs eg BSP, SMTP etc? meeting the min MSG<2? Any special advantage when in JC or applying to U? or Or is it better to just stay in the normal IP program for lesser work load since all lead to HCJC?
Special Programmes include getting an A1 in the subject in matter and MSG <2.0
      BSP: HCL
      SMTP: LSS and IM
      HP: IH and ELL

Advantage? In JC, it will allow you to enter more easily as you have gone through a tougher curriculum.
Applying for U. Well, if you have the experience in more research and higher-order learning, it will definitely make your son stand out. However, it is not said explicitly.

That depends on your son. If he can handle and it passionate then a greater workload shouldn't be a problem.

HCI has not got extra CNY holiday in a while.

Competition in Badminton and Table Tennis is very stiff, around 3-4 people get in through the CCA selection exercise. It would be better to try other CCAs.

      Dear Mumies,

How come Hwa Chong only have 1 PE lesson per week. For those art CCA the physical exercise is not enough. Do they have one afternoon sports for those art CCA like RV?
I do know that Library has their own after-CCA sports.

The 1 hour is not enough, hence it is advised to go and use the school facs for afternoon sports before CCA or after school since most Clubs and Societies CCA do not have a lot of training.

Can any of the parents advise how is the child allocated to a class? What is the definition of \"A\", \"O\" & \"P\"?

I think that refers to the various consortiums. I believe that except for iSpark, the rest are randomly assigned.

      Aphelion, Ortus, ProEd, iSpark.

When you reach upper sec, there will be B, S, H (BiCultural, Science and Math Talent, Humanz)

      Dear parents,

I need help to attach the brass buttons on the shirt. There's no button hole on the shoulder pleats. How should I attach the buttons? For the shirt pocket, is it just push into the front button holes with the ring? But when I do that, the buttons will stop out easily. And for the badge, am I suppose to keep turning the badge to unscrew it?

      Thanks in advance.
o.O Never heard of such problems.
The lack of holes may be a manufacturing problem, you can cut your own hole to put. But ensure that the hole is smaller than the ring.

For the pocket, you open up the flap, put the button through the hole and secure it with the ring from inside the pocket then button the pocket like a normal button.

For the badge, you pull the round disc towards the end to pull it out.

Isn't today the last day of orientation? Need to go to school on Friday too??

      Not this Friday, 2nd round & 3rd round of CCA orientation on 9/1/2013 & 11/1/2013 šŸ˜†
Will school give out the form to register CCA trial sessions?
No. Students will visit the CCA during their training sessions for trials. The school will provide their available dates for trial though.

      Hi,

Can I check on the LEP programme? Is it beneficial and worth signing up for or with the various CCAs, kids will be too busy?

      thanks
It would be a good programme if your child is interested in Chinese culture or has aptitude to literature (English or Chinese).

It will only take up 1.5 hours per week so it would be not much of a problem unless ur DS takes 3rd Language too.

Apparently there is also a branch of MOELC in Ghim Moh. Peace.

If I'm not wrong, it has been replaced by the one in Newton

May I ask if the transport to moelc is only to the Newton centre or both the Newton and the Bishan centre?

Both. There are students who take languages other than French and Japanese, which are only offered in Bishan.
