RE: DSA 2024
@melting_starz yes, itβs harder to find info as compared to before the switch. But at least not all threads were lost in the transition. Just need more time to scroll through.
Once again, all the very best for our DCs and all the other hopefuls who are waiting for an outcome for their DSA application!

NUSH has sent out camp invites via email last evening (9 July at 6pm). Apparently there are 2 main groups, full-day campers and half-day (PM) campers. Do remember to submit your confirmation to attend the camp via the link in the email.
I guess there are 3 groups as my DS is attending half-day (AM).
I wonder if half-day campers have a lower chance of getting into NUSH than those selected for the full-day camp?
Hi @Sweetmadness, I think no point worrying about this difference in arrangement especially since we canβt do anything about it. One could also argue that the full-day campers might be the ones that require more observation and reconsideration than the half-day campers. Iβm saying this sort of arrangement could either way, and we wonβt know the truth unless the school decides to explain to us. Fyi, Iβm saying this as a parent of a full-day camper. Iβm sure we all have our own doubts but letβs not let them
affect our kidsβ special day.

It's a similar daily situation in our house as well, except for the helper part since we don't have one. π My kid reads from \"dawn till dusk\", especially on weekends/PHs/school-holidays, until I nag at him to wash up and go to bed. π And we have to order new books regularly since our public libraries can't seem to support his reading needs, which is kind of disappointing. πrevils_ling\" post_id=\"1992807\" time=\"1598535029\" user_id=\"136480:

thanks man
books are never enough at home...scattered around the house. hahahah its quite messy actually.
maybe some of you will have similar experiences:
Every morning, the first thing I see my boy doing before sending him to school is:
reading at the sofa.
(our helper will wake him up 20 mins before I wake up so that he can change and eat his breakfast)
As for testing, I did consider sending him for WISC-V before he turned 6, but gave up on that idea after reading up about MOE's rules and requirements, and how rigid they seemed to be. I decided to re-channel that ~1-2+K of testing fees to support his passion (books, etc.) instead. π
BTW, I received the set of books that I mentioned were meant for the UK's 11+ exams, and my son is quite hyped up about trying them out after browing thru them. Such a geek! π
I must get hold of the books soon.
Sch holiday coming soon. Hahahhaha[/quote]ππππ
My son prefers to do his home assessment/workbooks once or twice a week on weekends during the school term, then ramp up to include a few weekdays as well during his school holidays π This is his sort of enjoyment π -

I have heard from a friend that her DS applied for DSA Music to Cat High, and the school counter offered him a CO in Humanities because the school said that they can see his potential not just in Music alone. And the principal also assured the parents that DS would still be able to attend MEP after joining the school because he has already demonstrated his suitability during the DSA audition. This was back when the school didn't have Humanities on their DSA list yet, and the child is currently in Year 4. Not sure how widespread this sort of practice is though.
Any instances of schools making offers of a different domain from the one applied? Eg apply under leadership but offered academic instead?

@revils_ling oh! the book list is so short!
They cover Sec 3 Social Studies in Year 1?!?Yes, accelerated learning I suppose. And the teachers will provide notes for other subjects that you donβt see on the booklist. If Iβm not wrong, the official matriculation date is on 18 Dec.

RE: DSA 2024
@melting_starz Thanks for ur well wishes! And yes, the competitive is indeed overwhelming for this year. I think for my boy, this is like a consolation for the entire DSA process. Iβm sorry that ur boy didnβt get it. But I do think the best is yet to come for him, so keep up with the revision and prep well for PSLE! Challenge himself and see what greatness he can achieve when he tries his best! I told my boy the same too. And to focus on his revision for now, and we shall revisit this DSA thingy after PSLE is over. Wishing all the very best to our kids moving forward! Jia you x3!

@melting_starz Hi
, itβs been a both a break from DSA and a busy period prepping for the school prelims. We received the SST WL this afternoon. Hope u have better news on ur side!

RE: DSA 2024
@melting_starz did u check your inbox and spam? They would have sent the emails to both addresses provided in the initial DSA application. I spent dinner time feeling dejected before I was ready to break the bad news to my kid. Mainly because this was a school I always thought would fit him well, ever since I read about it 6-7 years ago. But maybe I was wrong? Whatever the case, heβll have to face the music again in school today since at least 5 of his peers have received good news yesterday morning. And at the end of today, weβll still be able to feel happy for his friends, and heβll still be able to get on with his prelims + psle prep.
Thanks for being on this short lived journey with us! All the best for your DC for SST!

For now, Iβm not too sure if my kid still wants to go ahead for SST camp, especially since he hasnβt decided what he wants to do for the 1-min show n tell yet.

RE: DSA 2024
@AngieHo yes, I agree with u. The fact that we waited for almost an entire day just to receive bad news didnβt help at all. Anyway. another one done and dusted for us. Shall see if my DS still wants to give this βpickyβ school another go in November. All the best for the kids next weekβs orals and for the prelims + psle papers ahead!
