    • RE: Math And Chess - Community Thread

Chess is a complicated game and as such requires specialised training. Those who are good in Math may not be good in chess but those who are good in Chess are ALL good in Math.

For International Chess lessons, there are a few places to learn. Do check the instructors background before spending your hard earn $$$.

The best way is to check the instructors' FIDE rating. For comparison, some local teenagers' rating is 2000 and above. If the 'instructors' ratings are below that, they can't be too qualified to teach chess professionally.

For those who are serious about chess, SCF is a good place to start. Those who habour ambitions their children to be champions may want to consider PowerChess Asia Pte Ltd http://www.powerchess.org (tel 9003 9113). Their instructors' rating is 2500

My friend sends his kids to learn chess there and they have been winning trophies. Apparently many of the top local junior players (those representing their schools and Singapore) learn chess there.
