Hi Sally,
So in total how much the cost of $$ you DIY bring in own maid? In that case sometime I wonder why agencies charge like from $88 to $688 for agency fees.
The nett cost is $310 ( air ticket + insurance + bond)
But DIY means no replacement maid from Agency
Every business ( Maid Agent) needs to \"make some money\" if not if everything is done at COST then we also got no \"income\" liao. :celebrate: -
RE: All About Full-Time Maids
When I DIY arranged my ex-maid to Singapore.
She agreed to deduct her 1 month salary and is also a win-win situation for both of us that she don't have to give-away 8 months salary to Agent.
Application is done online and I also don't need to apply any leave.
Partly my maid is very street smart, she went for thumb print and collection of work permit herself.
She has been with us for 3 years and I give her a EASLlink card so that she can travel to and fro my mother's house or attend courses at CC. Everything voices down to the maid's attitude and whether she can get along well with the family members...

RE: Adam Khoo: The expats will rule Singapore
Busymom:
Foreigners with masters degrees from good universities would not be asking for $2,000. With the right qualifications, there are companies in Singapore and elsewhere willing to employ them. Even starting pay within certain sectors is higher than $2,000 these days.
The foreigners who are willing to take a lower pay are either not getting any/much job opportunities at home, or $2000 converted back to their home currency is actually worth a lot more.
By the same token, I don't understand why do we need so many foreign workers in our service industry. Go to any foodcourt or retail outlet, you will see many PRCs or Filipinos doing the jobs that were done by Singaporeans/Malaysian PRs in the past. This brings to mind a fellow forumer's story of her Filipino maid who was offered a waitress job. Is it a case of the locals unwilling to take up such jobs (which I really doubt), or a case of businessmen trying to employ cheap labour from foreign countries, thereby artificially lowering the wages in such jobs? It is no wonder that the income gap between higher/middle income earners and lower income earners in Singapore has become wider in recent years.
I'm from service industry and reasons why we prefer foreigners is not of lower salary $$ pay out- but is cannot \"TAHAN\" the fussy Singaporeans' attitude.
Offering the same job ( service retail) to Singaporeans and they will request not to work retail rotating shifts, must off on every Sunday and request to provide a chair in the shop...
If you don't believe you may ask around( Singaporeans) who is willing to work in retail hours + 1 offday on weekday + need to stand for 8 hours and willing to accept salary of $1300?

RE: All About Full-Time Maids
Cost?
the cost of air ticket is also very cheap - US$40 ( S$60) from Jakarta.
and those insurance + bond- S$250
Total $310
Basically when you engaged a agent, you also need to pay agency fees $488+ insurance $250.
This is advisable method for people who is getting a maid that you know...

RE: All About Full-Time Maids
First, find a maid who has a valid passport.
Then click on http://www.mom.gov.sg to apply work permit.
Just fill-in the maid data and employer data.
Within 1 day, you will get the result of approval ( IP letter). Then you just need to buy medical insurance + security bond from any insurance company.
Make sure the MOM has received the security bond before maid enter to Singapore. As per normal, you will need to bring maid for medical checkup and once she is FIT for work, submit online for issue pass and proceed for thumb print/ collection of work pass.
It's really simple and hassle free!
Everything is done online and you just need go MOM work pass dept twice.

RE: All About Full-Time Maids
I've sent my current maid back (Indo) after working for 5 months...within these months, she broke my wardrobe glass panels, drinking glasses, bottles...many more.
I contacted my ex-maid and apply online without paying a single agent fees. Now my house is spick-and-span again.
Have a right maid is really like winning a TOTO.
